Do you ‘wrap as you buy’ or ‘wrap it all in one go on Xmas Eve’?

I usually wrap presents over a few days in December but this year I don’t seem to have much space to gently store wrapped presents without ripping paper. I have always thought leaving it until Xmas Eve is crazy but I’m considering doing it this year.

So when do you wrap?

Is it possible to do it all in one night, going on the fact my kids are teens and won’t be in bed early 🤔

wrap from early december (when the tree is up) and place the wrapped presents underneath.
not all at once, a bit like a reverse advent calendar.

wendz86 · 10/11/2020 07:30

I wrap over December normally. I need to have Christmas tree up before iI wrap.

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/11/2020 07:30

Wrap all in one go, usually around 2nd week in December.
No way could I leave it until Christmas Eve Shock I wouldn't stand the stress.

BertieBotts · 10/11/2020 07:32

What is SPOTY?

I always end up doing them on Christmas Eve and DH doesn't help Hmm

Quisto · 10/11/2020 07:40

Christmas Eve, all of it. I'm the person sitting up alone at 1am on Christmas morning , wrapping presents. Maybe I will not do that this year Grin

Sorry, Sports Personality of the Year

It’s usually on a Sunday evening about a week-10 days before Christmas.

DeathMetalMum · 10/11/2020 07:47

Christmas Eve isn't Christmas Eve for me unless there is wrapping happening. I don't leave it all for Christmas eve I do by households a few nights in the run up to Christmas eve and then put all the gifts together in the right households. Christmas Eve both dp and I will wrap the kids gifts with a glass of baileys in hand.

BertieBotts · 10/11/2020 07:49

Oh! A few people mentioned it and I was trying to work out what Christmas film it could be :o

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/11/2020 07:53

The change I am making this year is presents between me and DH will be wrapped in the glittery Amazon bags where things fit. We have quite a few given to us in previous years.

violetclouds · 10/11/2020 07:57

I usually wait till we've put the tree up, glass of baileys, ELF soundtrack & chocolate 😊 this year it's already done as I'm due to have a baby 1st week of jan & moving house in a few weeks

Morgan12 · 10/11/2020 07:59

I don't wrap anything. Just have it all laid out for the kids coming down on Christmas morning. I build the big things though so they are ready to he played with.

BiddyPop · 10/11/2020 08:01

I tend to put aside, usually 2 evenings, in mid December when DH is out (he has a number of events to attend for work) and get stuck in. I have over 50 people to buy for, and either need to drop things ahead of time or bring them with us travelling shortly before Christmas, and some are posted overseas, so I need to do it ahead of 24th. But I bag them up by family grouping to keep them neat and make it easier to deliver.

BiddyPop · 10/11/2020 08:02

(Although I have occasionally forgotten o do the odd thing and had to race around upstairs after getting home from church to wrap something to slip under the tree last minute...)☺️

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/11/2020 08:04

I have over 50 people to buy for

!!! Shock

UndertheCedartree · 10/11/2020 08:08

I start wrapping in December and gifts go under the tree when wrapped.

I couldn't leave it til Christmas Eve - I'd have a panic attack and it would totally ruin the enjoyment of the evening. Onve the DC are in bed I like to have a Baileys coffee and listen to carols.

BiddyPop · 10/11/2020 08:09

It’s what happens when both you and DH come from big Irish families!! Xmas Grin

hopeishere · 10/11/2020 08:24

I made two mistakes that I am now paying for - wrapping Santa presents and leaving it to the last minute. I'm going to wrap as I go now.

We don't have a lot of other presents to buy so I'll just do them on Christmas Eve.

I'm in NI and it seems to be in England that there are lots of "tree presents" from scattered family. I think here you are more likely to live close to family and will generally see them in the day so "tree presents" isn't as much of a thing.

MsSquiz · 10/11/2020 08:35

I used to have a day set aside to wrap everything, with Christmas music on and a glass of fizz in front of the Christmas tree (usually when DH has gone to the match and then for festive drinks with his mates)

This year, I am wrapping as I go. DD turns 1 on the 18th December, and all 3 of her cousins have their birthdays in December too. Also, MIL is now very poorly and we don't know how long she has left so trying to stay organised and on top of all festive related jobs

Iwantacookie · 10/11/2020 09:15

One xmas eve I was outside in the rain putting together a trampoline. Couldnt do it before otherwise they would of seen it. That made me grumpy.

LadyCatStark · 10/11/2020 10:03

I usually do mine one night in December when DH has his work Christmas party down in London. It’s a huge affair and I’m always jealous (one year they had it at the Harry Potter studios 😵), I’m public sector and we do absolutely nothing so I create my own festive occasion by putting on a film, buying myself some lovely chocolates and wrapping once DS is in bed. I don’t do it with DH as he’s a perfectionist and takes a million years over one present 🙈.

mam0918 · 10/11/2020 11:03

neither, I buy months in advance so no point wrapping then or as each indervidual thing arrives (I would forget whats what) but its utterly insane to leave it right until the 11th hour.

I usually start wrapping some time in December, in chunks (stopping when I get bored/frustraited) so gifts start apprering in batches under the tree all through December.

SillyCow6 · 10/11/2020 11:12

I normally have a morning while the kids are at school, or if that doesnt pan out then dh takes them out for a morning and I wrap then. I dont wrap stocking presents, and stuff from Santa goes into a reusable christmas sack which I add big ribbon bows to. I have wrapping paper left over from.orevious years but once it is all gone I am going to invest in reusable bags or scarves to wrap pressies in, like the Japanese way of doing it - beautiful and eco!

LindaEllen · 10/11/2020 11:41

I never wrap before I've completely finished my shopping, but nor do I wait until Christmas Eve. Usually I'm finished by the second week in December, and then I'll build myself up to the wrapping (I don't like it) and I'll get it done when DP is out at his hobby .. this is irrelevant this year as it's cancelled, but it'll all be done and ready to hand out by the 20th at the latest.

TheChosenTwo · 10/11/2020 12:13

Haha @BiddyPop - I buy for over 50 aswell, nothing to do with being Irish but because both dh and I have two sets of parents and step parents and step siblings aswell as 8 full siblings and masses of nieces and nephews between us.
It’s nuts.

TheTrashBagIsOursCmonTrashBag · 10/11/2020 13:36

Neither. I pick a day (or days) in December when the kids are at school and wrap stuff then while watching vh1 Christmas or a Christmassy movie, chocolate by my side and the Christmas tree lights on. I’ll never be organised enough to wrap as I go and by Christmas Eve night I’m usually knackered and wouldn’t have the energy for it on top of everything else. My sister always wraps on CE though and is often still going at 2am and is dead cranky on the day itself. Sod that.
