I don't think the number of presents is ridiculous. Plenty of children get that number. My own DS is getting 11 presents plus stocking. I haven't added up the cost but it's less than £200. But I agree it's a lot of lego. 2-3 lego sets and some stationery, books, a game, clothes, bubble bath etc would have been plenty

wallyb · 08/11/2020 15:32

@MintyMabel I think you misunderstood because I never said that.

Ellie56 · 08/11/2020 15:33

£3k for Xmas presents Shock Wow that seems way over the top.

Ours used to have one big present £100-£250 and then a few small stocking fillers - chocolate/books/small Lego sets/puzzles etc.

Starlightstarbright1 · 08/11/2020 15:33

Honestly last place I would ask is here.

You get the parents who give very little in the way of gifts some who will give waaaaay more and some about the same.

My DS is getting a lot this year. My beat friend died last Christmas , my DS's birthday was in lockdown when you couldn't get anything easily from online. so yes he will get a lot this year.. I don't care what anyone else thinks..

lazylinguist · 08/11/2020 15:34

Again: Did you want people's opinions, OP? If not, why did you start the thread? If you did want people's opinions, why are you telling people off for giving them?

Or did you just post because being privately happy with your purchases wasn't enough for you, so you needed other people to say they were happy for you too, even people who are suffering financially and might feel bad that they can spend very little on their own dc this Christmas?

RatherBeReading · 08/11/2020 15:34

it is interesting that people are so judemental on here and can't be happy for one another regardless of their circumstances..

Grin You asked a question on a chat forum and think it’s judgemental for others to answer? Whilst yourself calling them a “Karen” (ugh) for disagreeing with you - you’re either rather dim, entirely disingenuous, or a bit of both...

Oblomov20 · 08/11/2020 15:40

Seems hugely excessive to me. But I don't like huge piles of presents. I'd rather buy one big main present and 2 or 3 small ones. We have a big family, so lots of aunts and uncles that give a card with a cheque or cash in, which ds's put in their savings account.

rocketspin · 08/11/2020 15:43

@Kakiweewee

I feel horribly inadequate. My limit is £50 each for 14yo and 12yo. Eldest also has a birthday within six days of Christmas.
£50 is a decent sized budget, the op has spent far too much and her children won't appreciate all the stuff.
rocketspin · 08/11/2020 15:45

@gypsywater

I honestly dont get it. I couldnt afford 3k on kids presents a year but dont begrudge anyone who can. I just think lucky kids! It's not a big deal?!
I don't think they are lucky, tbh they are getting so much it's meaningless and they will grow to always expect a lot and will struggle as adults when on a limited budget.
Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 15:48

@Starlightstarbright1 thanks this is my first post on here so I guess u live and learn.. people are definitely ratty on here. Like u said some people get far more then I have so clearly the people that get are the ones with the issue

They're your kids, it's your money and they seem very generous and grateful. Plus I think Lego and your daughters gifts sound really good if we have to lockdown again.

Many parents will be in a similar situation, especially this year, your budget is not unusual and you are not inadequate at all.
Ickabog · 08/11/2020 15:58
@gypsywater it is interesting that people are so judemental on here and can't be happy for one another regardless of their circumstances.. like I said we have been in positions when we had nothing ,
But you asked for people's opinions, to judge your list. You invited them to share if they thought it was too much, if your chidlren were spoilt. You can't ask and then get pissy when people say well yes actually it is too much.

You say you were in a very different position years ago, honestly think how a post like this would have made you feel. Someone spending 3k on gifts asking is it enough, when you were scraping together enough for gifts. If you say you wouldn't have thought it was excessive, then I honestly think you're lying to yourself.

ivfbabymomma1 · 08/11/2020 15:58

I kinda don't think it's excessive (hear me out)
All it takes is for a child to want an Xbox & some games, or an iPad or new phone and your kinda up to £500/£600 on one gift alone.
I know you don't have to buy them but it's not uncommon for kids to have these things is it

FixItUpChappie · 08/11/2020 16:04

Well my sons are each getting for example.....

-1 Lego Set
-Power Treads
-a kiddie zoom camera/camcorder with green screen
-a Perplexus marble puzzle
-A board game
-Baby Yoda
-an acrylic paint set
-Kanoodle (3D puzzle game)
-gravitrax trick piece(s)
-Cross section book each
-a roll of Star Wars wall paper for their rooms
-Illustrated Percy Jackson book

Other things they would like or have gotten in the past....science/slime kits, specialty hoodies, sleds, football stuff, scooters, bedding, marble runs, Playmobil, various puzzles and board game/table top games, foos ball table, a table tennis net that can covert any table to a playing surface, outdoor games, craft kits, costumes/masks. Next year I'm eyeing up a claymation stop motion camera kit. I decided to wait one more year.

Kids Xmas, is it enough
Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 16:06

@Ickabog I used to enjoy reading them regardless. I like getting ideas even if I could only afford one item on the list. Made me feel chrstimassy

It’s too much but it’s not wasted money as such . Those big lego sets will hold their value and some may even increase quite a lot . They sound like they look after their lego so crack on .

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 16:08

@FixItUpChappie I haven't heard about half these things, I will take a look. I definitely know more about girly things then boy things as my boys never mention or play with anything but lego

That depends if they're all genuine. The OP said the colosseum was bought of Amazon for £40.
BasiliskStare · 08/11/2020 16:17

I think that is lots and lots and I would be tempted to put some away for birthdays - But as @RatherBeReading says - maybe a book each would not be a bad idea - & I do not say that to make a point - just that it may be one of the presents which doesn't go down a storm on Christmas day - but may be appreciated later. I've had lots of those with DS over the years ( not necessarily books - but I think you will get my basic point) When Ds was young with Granny - it just made me sad how overwhelmed he was with "stuff" on Christmas Day - by which I mean he could not really appreciate everything he was given.

But But OP - your choice

Plus you've got your daughter two 'secret diary' type things. Why?

MaudHatter · 08/11/2020 16:29

I would hope they’re real . Fake Lego is a false economy. I’d rather have one Lego set than 5 flego ones .
If it’s genuine Lego 🤞then it’s not a waste of money as such .
So far my kids have a giant galaxy bar to share ( I ate one )
Ticket to ride
A world map poster for one and a periodic table poster for the other . Time to get my finger out 😂

Husband has a contigo travel mug

Tanfastic · 08/11/2020 16:30

I always find with these threads you either get the responses that it's far too much because I only buy my child a button to play with and a satsuma or you get the people that say crack on, what a lucky boy/girl.

It's all down to personal choice and nobody else's business. The only criticism I have is why bother posting? These kind of threads never end well on here.
