the toys from last year have gone to these places local to us
So last year you bought demonstrably too much, so that you ended up giving things away second hand, but this year you bought even more and now you’re asking MN if it’s enough? Bizarre post.

If it’s Lori aged by deep down feeling that you went overboard then you could donate some of the excess gifts now, when they can be given as Christmas gifts to children who would otherwise get nothing. (Second hand toys are given to charity shops rather than as gifts to our families at the food bank I volunteer in - because it is too time consuming to check that they have instructions, no missing pieces, nothing added in or changed that could be dangerous, etc..) when we’re all rushed off our feet already.

I'm not bitter at all. It just seems like you're overcompensating for something. I find it very sad that you are doing so and then seeking validation on here. Maybe that money would have been better spent on therapy to get to the bottom of your insecurities and why you equate money with love.

LittleMissLockdown · 08/11/2020 15:14

thats the thing I don't buy even one item though the year for them

I never understand statements like this. Surely throughout the year you must buy them some stuff.

Do they not grow enough to need new clothes?
Do they not get better at reading and need more challenging books?
Does their football never pop and need replacing?

Surely at some point during the year they need new things?

gypsywater · 08/11/2020 15:14

Therapy Grin this is too much Grin

gypsywater · 08/11/2020 15:15

Maybe 3k really isnt that much to the OP and her partner?!

wallyb · 08/11/2020 15:16

@MintyMabel sorry I was referring to the fact I spend about £200 per dc & could spend more. I could win 50m tmw & it wouldn't change.

I think 3k is excessive and said so upthread but each to their own.

Oly4 · 08/11/2020 15:16

Mine get v little throughout the year and nothing from family so my list looks a lot like yours at Christmas.
Who cares what a bunch of strangers on the internet think? Your kids, your choices

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 08/11/2020 15:20

Therapy. 🤣🤣🤣 Fucking hell.

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 15:21

@RatherBeReading I meant the toys they played with and then didn't after a few weeks (non lego) that's why I stick to lego now for the boys. Far less last year but less lego based.

This year the kids each got given £50 to spend on a toy they thought kids liked and we donated brand new packaged to our local food bank charity a week ago so before Xmas to help.

And whether you can adopt me Grin

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 15:22

@LittleMissLockdown yes they have clothes and books but these are not gifts, these are necessities like food. I'm talking toys here.

I love a good spoiling at Christmas and my boys are the same age. Personally, even though they like Lego, I find it too much. I would hate for them to be opening their gifts and be like "oh more Lego, put it on the pile". There are so many nice and creative things out there....perhaps introduce them to a few different things to help diversify their interests would be my only thought. Whatever you chose have fun with it.

Coffeeandaride · 08/11/2020 15:23

I think your Mum is right and sometimes it’s good to have someone close to you who can be honest and bring her perspective to it.

sunshineandshowers21 · 08/11/2020 15:23

i’m not altogether sure this thread isn’t just an attempt to cause controversy... op asking if she’s got her children enough despite spending three grand, calling people who disagree with her ‘karens,’ her saintly children that selflessly donate their presents to homeless shelters, implying that people who let their kids use the tablets are ‘melting their brains’... i’m not buying it.

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 15:24

@FixItUpChappie any ideas for variation? I'm open to ideas

gypsywater · 08/11/2020 15:25

@Ywosdwos Good for you - it is interesting how many PPs assumed that the amount you're spending must be unaffordable...a bit patronising

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 15:26

@gypsywater it is interesting that people are so judemental on here and can't be happy for one another regardless of their circumstances.. like I said we have been in positions when we had nothing ,

OP posts:
TheCrow · 08/11/2020 15:26

Another one who thinks this is a pointless thread. You asked for people's opinions but anyone who disagrees with you should just move on and not reply or gets called sensitive. Why post then if not to just show off how much you've bought since you're getting pissy and defensive with anyone who says they think it's excessive 😂

LittleMissLockdown · 08/11/2020 15:28

yes they have clothes and books but these are not gifts, these are necessities like food. I'm talking toys here

I still dont for a second believe you dont buy a single toy all year. Are you honestly saying if their football burst or a toy became a craze and everyone was playing with it, which commonly happens in schools you wouldn't replace it or let them join in?

Bikingbear · 08/11/2020 15:29

Very one track minded, where are the Xboxes and the PS5s, iPads, phones and laptops?
How are they going to cope in another lockdown without any tech to communicate with the outside world???

Ywosdwos · 08/11/2020 15:30

@LittleMissLockdown I don't buy it if u don't believe me that's fine

OP posts:
MintyMabel · 08/11/2020 15:31

@wallyb

I think you misunderstood. I’m saying that refusing to spend 3k on your kids even if you can afford it doesn’t mean you are being tight.
