I'm just wondering if anyone has decided what they are doing for their work Christmas party now that a traditional party can't happen.
I've been trying to come up with ideas.... but am failing

Our Ward is full of positive patients so we're not allowed any decorations up this year.

We have a little staff room at the back of the Ward so I've organised a secret Santa and the week before Christmas we're having a week long nibbles and junk food bring and share so everyone will be able have some food when they're on shift.

I'm just trying to lift spirits, the nurses and healthcare assistants are doing a brilliant job.

Boss is claiming our £10pp Christmas budget and stashing it for when we're able to have a night out. We only have a small window in which to claim the money so it'll get put into the safe.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 07/11/2020 07:48

Bugger all. Not even secret Santa (as the poor bugger who organises it, secretly relieved)

RaggieDolls · 07/11/2020 07:48

We don't have anything organised for us or paid for (public sector) but we always arrange something for ourselves. The pizza idea is fab @Turnedouttoes. I'm going to suggest that for my team as I can have the kits delivered to their homes.

Renovirgin2018 · 07/11/2020 07:54

My husband works for a company that runs Zoom events like murder mystery, quizzes and escape rooms. They are great fun, especially if the teams dress up and have a few drinks. You can Pm me if you would like more details @SoTiredNeedHoliday

DuzzyFuck · 07/11/2020 07:56

Cancelled, as the summer party was. We're having redundancies so can't possibly justify it.

Our team are going to do something just the 4 of us at our own expense.

Darker · 07/11/2020 07:56

On my wish list is

  • the days between Christmas and New Year off in recognition of the horrendous year we have had and the problems working from home at Christmas with excited children, young adult children home etc.
  • a Christmas gift of some kind which I can enjoy in peace such as a voucher
  • no zoom party, no secret Santa

I am a misery-guts.

AllTheCakes · 07/11/2020 07:59

I’m in charge of sorting my team Christmas. Thinking I will send everyone a cheese board to eat while we Zoom and have a few drinks.

CathulhuRising · 07/11/2020 08:02

Nothing. And we worked all the way though. I'm just grateful for the week off I've managed book. I've never worked anywhere you get a bonus or gift from the bosses. 🤷‍♀️

Kljnmw3459 · 07/11/2020 08:04

My very small team will probably have a virtual one with a quiz. We have a virtual meeting every day and like a natter.

nicknamehelp · 07/11/2020 08:10

We are having nibbles in the office, wine/beer, quiz and a gift.

HedgieHog · 07/11/2020 08:12

I’m surprised how many people get paid for parties/ gifts/ presents (and how ungrateful some are for it 🤐) where I work I’m grateful to have a job, we’ve had a few redundancies so would rather money isn’t wasted on frivolous things when it could support jobs.
We do our own meal and secret Santa usually everyone gets on so there’s nobody not wanting to join in, not discussed this years yet, probably go for dinner whenever we are allowed

Lonelykettleshed · 07/11/2020 08:13

Nothing, all cancelled. It makes sense though as we have to cost cut to get through, have been WFH since March and can't get together.

GameSetMatch · 07/11/2020 08:27

At my husbands work they have decided to give the money usually spent on parties to charity it works out £35 per head. Everybody voted either money to charity or £35 voucher.

DustyOwl · 07/11/2020 08:37

We pay for our Christmas party ourselves (a school). Maybe we will be buying ourselves a treat to share on zoom? Or maybe our headteacher will give us our normal Christmas bonus...a mince pie.

Honestly I'm only joking. I'm not really bitter, it's just part of our job. It does, however, fascinate me the idea of a paid for Christmas party (I've been a teacher way too long!) I hadn't really thought about it until a friend was shocked that we paid for our own party (£40+) and our own drinks. Can you imagine the uproar if tax payers money paid for school staff to get pissed 😂.

Xmasbaby11 · 07/11/2020 08:41

University here. Nothing.. hadn't occurred to me we would have an alternative. However we have been given 4 extra closure days before Xmas on top of the usual 3, which is great!

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 07/11/2020 08:43

Nothing, same as every year.

YewandOak · 07/11/2020 08:58

Nothing.
We have a tip box at work and all agreed that the tips would be saved for our christmas ''do'', this year our boss has split all tips between us and given us the cash instead.
Makes sense as none of us know if we'd have been able to do anything as a group between now and January.

SierraHotel · 07/11/2020 09:00

@missyB1 ditto..I also work in a nursery and that's exactly what we're doing

Squirrelblanket · 07/11/2020 09:00

Time off work is a good idea.

Suzi888 · 07/11/2020 09:01

Absolutely nothing thank goodness! We love Christmas but don’t need forced fun, will just postpone a gathering until summer.

AlsDiner · 07/11/2020 09:03

A Zoom chat Hmm. They did the same instead of the summer party as well, and it was stilted, awkward and dull, so I've no idea why they want to repeat the experience.

The summer one was so excruciating that I left the zoom meeting, then texted my manager to say my connection had dropped and I'd try to get back on asap.

Splodgetastic · 07/11/2020 09:03

I heard my DH on the phone today to someone in another part of his company who was having some kind of Zoom party and he said, “Well, I suppose there can’t be any accusations of sexual harassment if it’s virtual.” I think he might have led a somewhat sheltered life and doesn’t realise that some men send dick pics!

Splodgetastic · 07/11/2020 09:06

My professional association is doing a virtual murder mystery in the run-up to Christmas and even better it’s free.

DieCryHate · 07/11/2020 09:16

We're getting Christmas Eve off instead.
