Christmas movie for 3 year old

Hi I am looking for suggestions for a Christmas movie suitable for a sensitive 3 year old... to give some context, she is unable to watch pretty much all Disney movies including frozen as she finds them too scary, and Halloween had to be put on hold as she was frightened of her witch costume! We seem to be stuck on paw patrol and ben and holly in terms of viewing, and even these programmes occasionally make her scared or cry!

But I was thinking that on Xmas eve it would be nice to put on a Christmas film that we can watch together. Are there any that really aren't scary and just have love story lines that she can follow? Thanks!

My 3yo loves the Grinch.
He did get very upset the first time he watched it (about the grinch stealing all the presents) but didn't want us to stop it Grin And kept requesting it after, he loves it!
I think it helped that we had read the book a lot before watching the film.

Also echoing the Grinch! Not the Jim Carey one (which DD found scary) the cartoon one. It’s great - I must have watched it about 250 times now and DD loves it.

The Grinch or a short Mickey Mouse one?

dontfeedtheunicorn · 05/11/2020 09:41

Arthur Christmas is good

Another vote for Arthur Christmas. My 3yo can be quite sensitive too but he enjoyed this last Xmas when he was approaching 3. This year I've got him the snowman for his Xmas eve box.

Polar express

Oh definitely Arthur Christmas, it might get a mild suspense rating for when the children might see Santa but that's as scary as it gets! Also very watchable from an adult point of view 😁

Mickeys Once Upon a Christmas for sure. I also second the new Grinch, the Cumberbatch one. DS is 3 and absolutely loves it.

Charlie brown's Christmas.

The Raymond Briggs Father Christmas Animation.

Frosty the snowman

I’d avoid Arthur Christmas if you’re a traditionalist! It’s not scary, but I think it ruins the magic of Christmas and I seriously cannot understand why everyone rates it!

DelurkingAJ · 05/11/2020 10:11

Raymond Briggs Father Christmas. Gloriously funny and no scary bits at all.

CloudyVanilla · 05/11/2020 10:13

Twice upon a Christmas

I love all grinch films but even the cartoon may be scary for her, don't see anything in the new CGI grinch movie that would be scary

It's hard to think of ones that are so tame but also interesting for you!

user686827 · 05/11/2020 10:16

Stickman! It's only half an hour long but that's ideal for a 3 year old anyway. We're Going on a Bear Hunt ends on a Christmas scene too, so perhaps watch that first and then Stickman if you wanted something longer. For a full length movie I agree the new Grinch is lovely. My dd who is scared of everything too, (Scooby Doo is equivalent to a horror movie to her) was fine with the Grinch but she is a bit older than yours. She also really loves Nativity, which isn't at all scary but I'm not sure if would hold the interest of a 3 year old.

BirdsDoIt · 05/11/2020 10:17

Age 3 - I’d vote for Snowman, and/or Snowdog - so lovely! Good for Christmas but maybe not so enjoyable for grown ups - Stick Man. Christmassy Peter Rabbit or Thomas the Tank Engine. Or Christmassy Octonauts.

BirdsDoIt · 05/11/2020 10:17

Oh yes and Bear Hunt! That’s a lovely one.

NameChange30 · 05/11/2020 10:20

Oh god not the octonauts! DS is obsessed and watches them on repeat Grin

YY to the Snowman followed by the Snowman and the Snowdog

user686827 · 05/11/2020 10:20

Also have you tried Cbeebies for general viewing? My kids who are scared of a lot of usual kids stuff love Topsy and Tim, Waffle the Wonder Dog, JoJo and Gran Gran, Our Family, Let's Go For a Walk... All gentle every day themes and mostly live action programmes.

Coronacockup · 05/11/2020 10:23

My 3 dds are the same they cry at the snowman!! They get upset when watching stickman as he gets separated from his family. They love father Christmas ( raymond briggs) mickeys twice upon a Christmas and curious George Christmas Grin

Iggypoppie · 05/11/2020 10:24

Stick man is terrifying Grin

saywhatwhatnow · 05/11/2020 10:25

I'm looking for a good Xmas movie for my two year old too. Just looked at the grinch and there are so many different ones? There's 'how the grinch stole Christmas' as well? Which one is best?

NameChange30 · 05/11/2020 10:26

The 2018 animated film with Benedict Cumberbatch doing the voice of the Grinch.

user686827 · 05/11/2020 10:29

It's this one, the 2018 movie. It's just titled 'The Grinch'.

Christmas movie for 3 year old
