Christmas movie for 3 year old

Hi I am looking for suggestions for a Christmas movie suitable for a sensitive 3 year old... to give some context, she is unable to watch pretty much all Disney movies including frozen as she finds them too scary, and Halloween had to be put on hold as she was frightened of her witch costume! We seem to be stuck on paw patrol and ben and holly in terms of viewing, and even these programmes occasionally make her scared or cry!

But I was thinking that on Xmas eve it would be nice to put on a Christmas film that we can watch together. Are there any that really aren't scary and just have love story lines that she can follow? Thanks!

There are four Ben and Holly Christmas episodes (2× 2-parters), we still watch those every year even though my DC are at high school now Grin

Prep and Landing.

When mine were little we had a video (yes long time ago!) which was a compilation of BBC Christmas episodes (Pingu, Postman Pat, fireman Sam etc) It was brilliant because they were short so useful short time fillers when there wasn't time for a full film. Plus they weren't scary at all. It was really useful, would recommend something like that even if you find a film you like. Not sure if CBeebies have something similar on DVD?

Santa claus is coming to town, with Fred Astaire singing is super gentle and vintage feeling with stop start animation (1970). Cheap DVDs on Ebay. Think it's on prime too to watch online.

Notlostjustexploring · 05/11/2020 19:32

One from my own childhood that I bought last year was Yogi Bears First Christmas. Might be a bit long, but nothing overly scary. And very Christmassy.

I too have had to skip episodes of Paw Patrol because, "scary".

My 6 year old is very sensitive ( has been since birthGrin, his siblings 5 & 3 less so. Popular in our house on Christmas Eve and the run up is Stickman, Bearhunt, Polar Express & The Snownan. We also have the Peter Rabbit, Peppa Pig & Thomas the Tank Engine Christmas Episodes that are watched endlessly.

Buddy the elf is good. Its an animated musical version of elf. DD loved it at age 3 and it's now our Christmas eve film.

There was a lovely short on BBC last year called Mimi and the mountain dragon which was lovely. Also check out the CBeebies specials (theres a hilarious octonauts one). The pantos are especially good - Thumbelina is my favourite, its peril free and has catchy songs. The Cbeebies ballets are brilliant and very gentle. As are the Shakespeare's.

Another vote here for Mickeys once upon a christmas.

Marmite27 · 05/11/2020 20:11

I was going to say the grinch or Arthur Christmas Grin

Fridgeandkitchen · 05/11/2020 21:33

@noodledoodler

Another vote here for Mickeys once upon a christmas.
Gets my vote too. We call it special Mickey here. I love it.

Also Arthur Christmas.

CosyQueen · 05/11/2020 21:38

Mickey Mouse once Upon a Christmas - my sensitive just turned three year old little boy loves it.
Also not a film just a random suggestion - my little boy is obsessed with the something special (mr tumble) Christmas episode (it’s on bbc iplayer) might be worth a watch on the run up to Christmas.

Figmentofimagination · 05/11/2020 21:48

Mickeys once upon a Christmas.

Also, in the run up to Halloween Disney+ made a Halloween playlist including all of the Disney junior Halloween episodes. Some were in 2 parts so 40 mins long. I'm sure in the run up to Christmas they will do the same.

LizzieMacQueen · 05/11/2020 22:22

Miracle on 34th street. Don't think that's scary.

somelemons · 05/11/2020 22:25

There's a Winnie the Pooh Christmas collection I think.

goose1964 · 05/11/2020 22:36

My grandson, who's 3,loves mickey's twice upon a Christmas, the animated Grinch and Arthur Christmas.

CoodleMoodle · 05/11/2020 22:36

Not a film, but the Cbeebies Pantomimes will be on iPlayer soon, if they haven't been put on already.

DD is 6 now and still loves them (as do I!). She started watching them when she was about 3 and is/was also quite sensitive. I explained to her that they were just people from Cbeebies dressing up and she wasn't worried anymore. She used to love working out who was who.

They're about 45mins lond and all really well done. We sing the songs all year long Grin

Mustbethewine · 06/11/2020 00:59

Mickeys once and twice upon a christmas are wonderful. My kids loved them when they were younger. Also the flight of the reindeer is another one we watched on repeat.

GhostOfChristmasPudding · 06/11/2020 01:09

I’m going to repeat a lot of what’s already here, but just adding my vote for -

The Grinch (recent cartoon version)
Mickey’s Once (and Twice) Upon A Christmas
CBeebies pantos
Thomas the Tank Engine/Postman Pat/Octonauts/etc. Christmas specials
Stickman
The Snowman (the second one is also lovely, but can be a little bit sad at the end)
Raymond Briggs Father Christmas
The Snowy Day if you have Amazon Prime. We came across it by accident a few years ago and it’s one of our must-be-played favourites now.

Kanaloa · 06/11/2020 01:15

Maybe the cartoon of The Gruffalo’s Child? Not technically a Christmas story but feels wintery.
Curious George & Charlie and Lola both have good Christmas specials.
Maybe the snow buddies movies? I can’t remember any scary bits in those.

JumpingJamboree · 06/11/2020 01:51

I love Aurthur Christmas and think it would be very suitable for a 3 year old.
Dr Seuss's The Grinch (made by illumination) is very good. I watched it the other day on Netflix and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Jigglypuffler · 06/11/2020 01:54

Try Angela's Christmas on Netflix. It's half an hour ish and insanely sweet. My DS has watched it on repeat for the last 2-3 years.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/11/2020 02:33

Is there an Angelina Ballerina Christmas episode?

And a slightly off the wall suggestion, but my DSis used to like watching other children's Christmas plays when she was little.

Sipperskipper · 06/11/2020 06:24

DD (was 2.5 last Christmas) loved the snowman & Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas. All quite short and very cosy.

I'm hoping she will like Arthur Christmas this year as its my favourite!

user686827 · 06/11/2020 09:16

Oh, just remembered. There is a full length Caillou christmas movie which my very sensitive 3 year old loved. Caillou is great for sensitive kids, it is on Amazon video.

LilyMyOneAndOnly · 06/11/2020 09:52

Some great suggestions, we went to the cinema to watch a re run of the Grinch last year and my sensitive (was then 3 year old) loved it. Also there is a very gentle Winnie the Pooh Christmas film on Disney+
