The “I don’t need anything” husband gift thread

LongPauseNoAnswer · 03/10/2020 20:10

Does anyone else have a DH who is practically impossible to buy for? He doesn’t need anything, doesn’t want anything and I have no clue what to get him.

He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t like sports. He sounds horrifically boring but he’s not I swear Grin

What are you getting your impossible to buy for DH?

I’ve posted on another thread about this but presume they are a rubbish idea! I was going to get DH some nice Corrymoor socks for ‘outdoor pursuits‘ but the reply I had said they were scratchy and overpriced! Can anyone recommend any good warm outdoor socks for a DH who’s a pain to buy for!!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 12/10/2020 10:34

Bridgedales are hard to beat Appuskidu. I've got a pair that's been worn loads over about 20 years and they're still going too Grin

GinAtMerlottes · 12/10/2020 18:57

Things I have bought the tricky men in my life this year so far.....
Dock and bay beach towel
Aspinall travel wallet
Bamboo socks
Dirt bike experience day
Marks and Spencer’s PJs/“leisure wear”
Sub to Private Eye

Various special nibbles..... chocolate ginger, nut brittle, chocolate Brazils,

Honestly, when I say I don't want anything - I mean I don't want anything. Especially vouchers for some experience I don't want to do!

These socks are amazing . Locally produced to me . I have just messaged her to ask if she sends off island .
I buy them for my son in law and he really rates them . Says they are the best in the world .
They look about the same price as the Corrymoor and are NOT scratchy .

Mines exactly the same. Drives me mad. X

I read this thread a while back. On the advice of posters, I upgraded something DP had already for his birthday. I bought him 2 pairs of PJs. He was totally thrilled! And has thrown out some elderly pj tops and bottoms. In his head, Christmas and birthday mean new pjs, socks and boxers. And that is what he wants, lol. I'm OK with that!

SuperFairy · 13/10/2020 11:44

Last year I bought DH a book all about Chillis 🌶 and a selection of seeds, went down a storm and he’s really enjoyed growing his chillis this year!

I too upgrade his clothes at Christmas, he never buys for himself.

This year I’m going to get him a make your own chorizo kit and a mini whisky barrel (cos he saw one on The Repair Shop and said “ooh that’s cool” 😀

GinFuzzy · 13/10/2020 18:20

My Husband has his Birthday on Xmas Eve! So double the fun. Every year he gets boxers/socks and loungewear, sweets, a nice bottle of wine, toiletries etc...
Magazine subscriptions have gone down well, as do weekends away but that's not really an option this year, one gift I've put together is a book of local walks, with walking socks and a water bottle... so we can get out with the dog more.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/10/2020 09:02

Thanks to a mention on another forum, I’m getting him DVDs of series 1-6 of Spiral (Engrenages) the excellent (subtitled) French police drama. One series which we really enjoyed was previously on BBC 4 but the others aren’t available on Netflix etc.
Dh is always keen on improving his French, so that’s a bonus. 🙂🎄

crochetmonkey74 · 14/10/2020 12:56

Would he like a 'stocking' of smaller gifts?

I'm thinking socks, choc, deodorant, aftershave, t shirt, a magazine- sort of all those useful things but then also some silly fun things

CoffeeChocolateWine · 16/10/2020 18:47

Just coming back to this thread as it was DH’s birthday and the belt I mentioned upthread was a big hit. He’s quite a keen cyclist and this belt is made from recycled inner tubes. They do other things like wash bags, wallets too. Anyway he liked it so much he’s getting another one to give to his brother (also a keen cyclist) for Christmas! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that!

The website is www.cycleofgood.com

Martinisarebetterdirty · 17/10/2020 10:48

@Appuskidu second Bridgedale socks if you haven’t already bought some - they genuinely last and are fantastic.

Yorkshirelass04 · 17/10/2020 11:13

This thread is going to be a godsend!

Does anyone recommend a posh food deli type hamper delivery service?

Jimmychoo69 · 17/10/2020 11:29

I have ordered for my husband, a food hamper from Harvey Nichols. They have free delivery on hampers at the moment.. He is a real foodie, so hoping this goes down well.

hitchhikingghost · 17/10/2020 12:29

@CatbearAmo I bought Moana t-shirts on redbubble, there were some nice more subtle ones there. 🙂

Oysterbabe · 17/10/2020 15:38

Following this thread for my impossible to buy for DH. Main issues are he is incredibly picky, I could never ever buy him clothes because the chance they would fit exactly as he wants and he would like every detail is miniscule, and he buys anything he wants for himself.
He likes sports and gin. I feel like I have exhausted the options for these gifts over the years.

Oysterbabe · 17/10/2020 16:14

I just looked at the online shop for his preferred football club and bought a few little bits from there. It's a start at least.

SuperFairy · 19/10/2020 13:31

Depending on budget another idea is a session in a Boeing 737 simulator, my DH bought me one last year and I’ve not used it yet (Covid) but am booked in for November, I can’t wait!

Laufeythejust · 19/10/2020 13:33

I’ve just ordered a nespresso advent calendar for mine and one of those milk frother things.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 19/10/2020 14:06

Oh, that's a good one Laufey I missed the Pact one so I'll get that instead.

IDontMindMarmite · 19/10/2020 16:31

I just found this belt which is perfect for my DH who is keen on cycling.

beela · 19/10/2020 16:49

@sueelleker I'm considering getting a weighted blanket for my dh too, he has never slept well and I don't think the current situation is helping matters Sad

danidella · 19/10/2020 16:51

Ive been struggling last year and this year with what to get DH for Christmas. Luckily I've seen a book that he might fancy. We are due a baby in the next few weeks so been looking at nee daddy gifts and have ordered him this t-shirt and vest as he works in IT. He did mention he would like to try something from Hotel Chocolat so defo getting something from there

Just bought my mountain-biking-fanatic DH some waterproof socks. Saw this being suggested on a biking forum as a good idea. Thought I’d share incase there are any other mtb widows out there.
