My dd is 9 and this year I'm really struggling on what to get her for Christmas. She doesn't really play with toys anymore and is more into virtual things such as Robux, which I'm very reluctant to spend money on.

She's into her clothes but everyone knows kids don't just want clothes for Christmas.

Can I ask what you are buying your 9 year olds this year?

Last year when DD was 9 she got:

Hoverboard
Easel/paints/canvases
Basic phone for Whatsapping with friends
Clothes
Fancy mirror with lights around it and some make up to muck about with
Books
Beanbag for her room

monkeyonthetable · 02/10/2020 09:20

Are there any things that seem a bit more grown up than toys but still involve play or creativity - like make your own perfume or chocolate sets. Or design your own jewellery.

How about some cool lighting for her room, framed posters of TV or music stars she loves. They tend to have a sort of early adolescence at that age.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 02/10/2020 09:34

Oh and a chunky seal pillow from Amazon, she LOVES that! And a fancy duvet set.

0htooooodles · 02/10/2020 09:36

We're literally in the same boat. All our daughter does is play roblox, and I'm really struggling. Her birthday is in November too 😫😫

IBook · 02/10/2020 09:43

@0htooooodles it's difficult isn't it.

There are some Roblox play sets available but I think my dd will play with them for 5 minutes then her younger siblings will have them.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Crafty sets are a good idea.

Nine is a great age at which to try out crafts such as sewing, knitting crochet because they have developed sufficeient manual dexterity and comprehension.

Haba do some wonderful art kits such as pom poms hedgehogs and paper-flower making.

And Buttonbag do some great sewing and knitting kits.

Or assemble a basket of crafty things so she could sew her own bunting or an

DD has roller boots on her list this year, that's another suggestion.

She does love Roblox too but I'm determined to give her stuff that doesn't involve sitting at a screen.

Gertiegumboot · 02/10/2020 09:45

Oops or buy a modest sewing machine or easel and paints?

Gertiegumboot · 02/10/2020 09:47

Stationery?

Science kits?

Geology kits/fossils?

ScatteredMama82 · 02/10/2020 09:51

Jigsaw puzzles, art stuff (watercolours, how to draw animals book), boardgames, voucher for cinema/theme park

Justguessing · 02/10/2020 09:52

My 9 year old dd has asked for robux and a better keyboard to play Roblox on Shock.

She's more likely to get:

a notice board for her room
pin art
craft stuff
a fake oodie
clothes
lego dots
(and maybe a token Robux gift card!)

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 02/10/2020 11:06

Roblox jigsaw
Smiggle light / stationery
Crystal art set
Book set like Percy Jackson / Dork Diaries /Harry Potter/ Anne of Green Gables
Board game - Labyrinth / Guess Who/ Sock Game
Cookery book and or implements
Claire's voucher
Robox annual
Onesie
Skipping rope / hula hoop

Weve decided to get our DD her own hike tent. We do do a lot of stuff like that though. DD7 will be getting an upgraded sleeping bag. Both need some other outdoor bits too.

Smaller gifts/stocking.. Harry Potter stuff, baking stuff, craft bits, stationery, scout bits. Another beanie boo.

Other people are getting her HP Lego and a sewing box so far. (And a Lego advent calendar).

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 02/10/2020 11:58

Baking stuff too :)

It is a tricky age isn’t! My dad turns 10 close to Christmas too and it’s hard enough trying to think of ideas for one of them!
The instax minis are good - she’s inherited one from her older sister when she upgraded to a sprocket.
I’ve also gone down the crafty route - I’ve picked up some make your own erasers (klutz craft kit) and also a nightlight and card making set
I’ve also got her a Guinness book of records because she said she was looking at one at school from years ago and was amazed by it and also a roblox annual. Also a couple of dork diaries books - most recent two are on amazon for 2 for £7 offer an a Tom gates book.
Really stuck for other ideas although I’m eyeing up maybe a new desk with accessories for her bday and lots of post it notes and highlighters!

snowmanshoes · 02/10/2020 12:30

Or rather my dd turns 10 Grin not my dad

snowmanshoes · 02/10/2020 12:31

The myo nightlight kit is a glass jar one not a plug in the wall one!

zippityzip · 02/10/2020 12:35

My DD is the same age. What the hell is roblox?!??

Currently she's getting her own Alexa for music and alarm clock, some new bedding and some knitting stuff because she's into that at the moment. Other than that I am entirely lost.

DD is turning 9 just before Christmas and she's into Minecraft, Fortnite and YouTubers this year so I was at a bit of a loss too. In the end I came up with-

Hama beads and boards, loads of Minecraft and Roblox designs for those online because they look like pixels when they're done.
Fortnite monopoly
Minecraft calendar
Fortnite/Minecraft funko pops to display in her room
Paint and brushes, there's a big group of people in my town who paint rocks and hide them in parks etc and we keep saying we're going to paint some
Hoodie or t-shirt of her favourite youtuber
Books

Among a few other bits. She wants a bath bomb making kit or bath bombs but I don't have a bath so leaving that to her dad to get her 😂

bunnyontheshelf · 02/10/2020 14:42

Check out craftsforkids. They have some great craft sets and you can sort by age

Theforest · 02/10/2020 14:52

My 9 year old plays either roblox sets as bath toys. Would never do it out of bath so that's an option still. Wink

Excitedforxmas · 02/10/2020 14:56

Remember my DD being the same age and not really into anything. I bought her a trolley and filled it with arts and craft stuff/ shite from pound shop. She loved it and now much older still uses it

BellaVida · 02/10/2020 15:07
