Well sobernow we have bought DS a DS so are part of the pressure. But my friend didn't want to spend so much on a computer game, so she has picked up a second hand gameboy quite cheaply on Ebay to ensure that her DS has a handheld computer thingie but not spending so much money. Might this be an option?

You see I am thinking of a DS Lite for DD as she has a Gameboy Advance - cheap one, second hand from ebay. However no one does the games anymore, not even the preowned, bar ebay. And obviously nothing new is coming out. So, at least with the DS, you can still play the old GBA Advance games, as well as any new DS ones. She has been sat playing mine this evening - I don't like sharing, lol!

But the price is still bugging me - it's a lot of money for just the one thing at this age. So maybe not.

But what to buy instead????

My dd1 is 5 and her christmas list so far

  • HSM dance mat
  • Barbie & tanner/mika set
  • Barbie island princess costume
  • Barbie island princess styling head
  • Bratz super baby (NO WAY !!)
  • Ponyville tea pot house
  • sticker machine

personally i have nothing against bratz, but the super hero bratz big baby is so ugly i couldnt bear the thought of it sleeping in the same house as me ;-)

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 10/10/2007 20:36

What a long thread. Will read it for inspiration at leisure, thank you all!

For non-girly girls, I was told about the Dr Who version of the old Operation game, instead of the man with the red nose, it's a dalek. It will suit my (nearly) 6yo to perfection!

She has an October birthday and is also getting a r/c Dalek or Cyberman, a sonic screwdriver and a folding camping chair to go with the 2-man tent we bought her last year. And a new witch dress because she's given the small one to her younger sister. And new riding clothes.

empen · 10/10/2007 21:52

Many of you seem to have something against Bratz - can someone explain it to me. My DD (5) loves them so much and just wants anything with their picture on and has done for over a year.

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 10/10/2007 22:15

empen - my non-girly DD actually has Bratz. I find them much less annoying than Barbie and they're a shoe fetishists dream.

We haven't watched the TV progs/DVDs though. Perhaps that is the cause of dislike?

bozza · 11/10/2007 08:46

You see that is my problem hula. It is a lot of money for one quite small thing when I have also got DD who is still getting big things. But OTOH do I want my house filling with more big things? Well I know the answer to that. But I still worry about Christmas morning when they walk into the room and DS has a tiny pile of presents and DD has a huge one. Last year she got a dressing table, the year before a kitchen, so it is always big presents for her.

Hulababy · 11/10/2007 09:04

Yes - I know what you mean Bozza. At the moment DD still doesn't have that much concept of value - so the cost of something like a DS relative to its size.... In the past Cristmas presents have been big boxes, it's getting past that bit I think.

OP posts:
bozza · 11/10/2007 09:05

Yes it is getting past that for DS, but DD is still only 3 and getting a doll's house. Maybe I will find a big box to put the nintendo in.

Hulababy · 11/10/2007 09:09

LOL! Good idea

I remember when I got older at Christmas. My little sister - 10 years my junior, always looked like she had tons more than me, all those huge boxes, etc. And my present sowuld be tiny in comparison to look at - although probably cost a lot more.

Wrap all the bits up seperately - everygame, wire, accessory - all separate and in big box

Every game? He is only getting one! It is his birthday in February.

Hulababy · 11/10/2007 09:18

If we do go down the DS route for DD, she can at least use her own GBA advance games to get her going.

Hulababy · 11/10/2007 09:20
