As I just don't have a clue for DD this year!

What are your five year old girls receiving?

OP posts:
oliveoil · 10/10/2007 10:11

dd1 is 5 in 2 weeks and is getting some Polly Pocket stuff and Ponyville pony stuff

for Christmas, she wants that Chou Chou mummy make me better doll , Ponyville PinkyPie house and some Charlie and Lola books

dd2 wants some sweets

I have told them we need to give away some toys first as the playroom is heaving so they are considering the Megabloks and some books to offload

nailpolish · 10/10/2007 10:12

argh that mummy make me better doll is so awful!

nailpolish · 10/10/2007 10:12

oh and dd1 wants more my little pony stuff

oliveoil · 10/10/2007 10:13

oh and she also wants the Polly Pocket Glitter House but glitter is banned in this house ("it makes mummy cross doesn't it?") so I have said that if Father Christmas brings it, we will have to bin the glitter

they agreed!

nailpolish · 10/10/2007 10:14

also requested is moon sand

oliveoil · 10/10/2007 10:15

it is the PonyVILLE stuff now, the minature ones

my sister got them both a set at the weekend, blissfull sighs all round

agree on Chou Chou doll but everytime the ad is on she gets all excited...

oliveoil · 10/10/2007 10:16

hmmmm, is Moon Sand evil though? I envisage it everywhere and me losing the will to live

oliveoil · 10/10/2007 10:19

My two like watching the ads and I sit there and say "look how they make it look good when really it is rubbish (ie Elefun )" so I am teaching them the evils of the marketing early on

bagpuss · 10/10/2007 10:20

dd would like a bike so will probably get one, as will ds1.

Other than that, some Polly Pocket, Ponyville and also a new baby born doll as the original one has a wobbly head which is broken! This won't all be from us - grandparents and other relatives will buy the smaller gifts.

compo · 10/10/2007 10:31

this thread is very interesting because I have a neice who is 5 at Xmas so need 2 presents.
What books would you all suggest?

Hulababy · 10/10/2007 10:33

Re. books, in the last year or so DD has enjoyed My Naughty Little Sister, Magic Faraway Tree, Charlotte's Web, The Worst Witch, Flat Stanley, some Roald Dahl books, to name a few.

OP posts:
nailpolish · 10/10/2007 11:15

my dd1 likes the shirley hughes books

compo · 10/10/2007 11:17

thanks - like the idea of getting a classic I loved like Naughty Little Sister

nailpolish · 10/10/2007 11:19

moon sand IS evil - but not as evil as magic sand which dd got for her birthday last week - that has been confiscated to Outdoors Only

LOOBYLOU2 · 10/10/2007 11:29

My DD loves the Charlie and Lola books and DVD's

bozza · 10/10/2007 11:38

I would look on the Book People compo. I just received an order and it looks good. Hula you are lucky you have until the end of the month - my MIL and SIL have both finished their Christmas shopping furnished with ideas from me. We have got DS, who is 6, a DS and we have got DD who is 3 a playmobil doll's house off Ebay so much cheaper and bigger so am on the lookout for something cheap but bulky for DS.

Hulababy · 10/10/2007 11:44

bozza! I refuse to even think about Chistmas until it gets colder and darker, after summer. Had to do ideas for my grandparents - for DD - a bit earlier as they areb't able to come down for Christmas this year, but my parents are visiting them next week. That's it till after half term is out of the way.

Tob be fair to my SIL she is due at the end of Jan so wanted to get it out of the way. So MIL decided to jump on the bandwagon. We are thinking about getting digital photo frames for our parents this year because as you say they are getting quite cheap now.

suwoo · 10/10/2007 13:23

Bozza, that has given me great inspiration for my 2 SIL's, do you know much about the digital photo frames? a quick look on Evilbay and they all look to be keychain ones from Hong Kong.

bettythebuilder · 10/10/2007 14:08

useful thread, thanks everyone!
Dd is 5 on Christmas Day, so I have to think of 2x pressie ideas. (grandparents/other relatives also need guidance )

Dd has said thet she wants a blue scooter (like the little girl's next door). She likes her 'babies' and barbies, so I'll get her some clothes etc for those. Not heard of ponyville, will have to check that out.

Dd loves jigsaws and books and crafty stuff, so will major on those!

Are hama beads too tricky & fiddly for a (just!) 5 year old?

Hulababy · 10/10/2007 14:20

When looking for a digital photo frame the things we have been looking at are:

  • can you run it from the mains, without being connected to a computer and no batteries
  • does it have a USB port so I can use a memory stick for the photos - I have no card writer to put photos back onto a memory card
  • size of screen, want ideally 7 inch

My dd will be 6 on Xmas eve & has asked for a bike from Santa.

So she'll get a bike along with some bits & bobs. I have got her some little mermaid bubblebath as she likes girly stuff & I have also got a few books. Famous 5 & some harder stuff we will read together.

She will also get some art & craft stuff.

She had a V-tech laptop last year & has loved playing on that.

I also got her some bits to add onto her play frame outside. A see saw thing that her & ds can both share.

Hulababy · 10/10/2007 14:20

DD had had Hama beads since being 4, possibly a bit earlier. Fiddly but easier for them with little fingers!

OP posts:
bozza · 10/10/2007 14:26

suwoo they had some 7" ones for about £40 on pixmania which I thought looked OK although I think then you would need a memory card in addition. We were also possibly thinking of loading a few photos on in advance.

Betty I think your DD should be fine with Hama beads, DS was doing them at that age. If it was just an abstract pattern he could cope fine but if he was following a design he needed my help. I certainly hope so, because one of the things my MIL has bought for DD is Hama beads Disney Princess (and she is only 3 so will need lots of help). You will have to be prepared for them going on the floor, mind you.

bootsmonkey · 10/10/2007 14:29

Are the Cello sticker makers really that bad?? Have just got one from Amazon. Debating whether to send it back now rather than wait and see how long it lasts for...? Otherwise, DD - 5 is getting the new baby Annabel, lego, music (Mika - her choice) and has asked for Barbie (Bratz are banned here too) Mummy make me better doll (not a chance) a new bouncy ball (done!) and random things that appear on the ads.
