Board game ideas for 7 year old

Hi

Hoping to get some ideas from you wise people. 7 year old DD is wanting a board game for Christmas and am stuck with what to buy. We have junior monopoly but most of the other games we have are card based - dobble, uno etc.

Any ideas? Thanks

One of our favourites is a Ravensburger game called Funny Bunny. It looks gimmicky, but it gets very competitive. It's a bit like snakes and ladders, where the rabbits fall down holes or get pushed off the mountain.

They also like battleships, monopoly, guess who and Labyrinth.

A 7 year old I would get the regular Cluedo, the junior one is very tame and ds finds it boring now.

Game of Life Regular version
Articulate junior
Labyrinth
Trivial Pursuit family
Sorry

All very popular here.

Stompythedinosaur · 15/09/2020 17:18

Carcassonne and Labyrinth are popular here.

Pansypath · 15/09/2020 17:34

My 7yo adores junior Labyrinth and has just started to get to grips with the grown up version too

UnaOfStormhold · 15/09/2020 17:36

Forbidden desert is good - and cooperative so fewer arguments.

Ive just posted this on another thread but My first Carcasonne and Ticket to ride First Journey are both great games to play as a family

Would those who have Carcassonne say that the junior one is too easy for a 7 year old?

Equimum · 16/09/2020 13:58

Our 7 year old loves:

  • labyrinth
  • ticket to Ride first journeys
  • Frustration
  • Rummikub (time game)

Not a board game, but his absolute favourite is Exploding Kittens

I love board games (my husband would say a little bit too much) and I have been trying to make my six year old son love them too.

Things he likes:

  • Labyrinth (regular version)
  • Kingdomino
  • Qwirkle
  • Rummikub
  • Carcassone (regular version)

This Christmas I'm getting us Ticket to Ride and can't wait to play with him.

@drspouse

Definitely too easy. My six year old plays regular version with us and after first few practice games he is now amazing in it - and wins often.
schmalex · 17/09/2020 04:56

Catan Junior is great.
City of Zombies is really good fun, practices maths skills and is also collaborative, which saves my kids screaming at each other!

Stompythedinosaur · 17/09/2020 07:13

Carcassonne is fine for a 7yo. There's no real point in the junior version.

BikeRunSki · 17/09/2020 07:18

@Stompythedinosaur

Carcassonne and Labyrinth are popular here.

I was going to suggest these two.
trilbydoll · 17/09/2020 07:21

We've got Catan and 7yo dd is really good at it, she wins every time we play, although bizarrely she says she doesn't like it?! We've got the standard version not Junior.

movingonup20 · 17/09/2020 07:28

At 7 ordinary editions are fine eg cluedo, monopoly. I particularly recommend ticket to ride Europe. Mine also started to play Risk at that age (we play a lot of games) dd is now into dungeons and dragons etc

BlueChampagne · 17/09/2020 14:30

Another vote for Settlers of Catan.
Also Backgammon.

averythinline · 17/09/2020 20:10

Ticket to ride New York is good slightly shorter routes so quicker to get into

Guess who
Game of life ...

Most of our games are cards as well would recommend sleeping queens if you haven't got it

Whathappenedtothelego · 17/09/2020 20:46

Another vote for Labyrinth, definitely a big favourite.

Ludo is also popular here, and Zooloretto.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 17/09/2020 21:58

YY to Carcassonne (done it with a bright 5 year old) and Labyrinth

Catan Junior is not at all great. If you play second player you will always win. (Assuming you spot the guarantee win move, first player cant make it).
