Hi

Hoping to get some ideas from you wise people. 7 year old DD is wanting a board game for Christmas and am stuck with what to buy. We have junior monopoly but most of the other games we have are card based - dobble, uno etc.

Any ideas? Thanks

Forbidden Island is a big hit here (same series as Forbidden Desert and also cooperative which is fab). Still likes Junior Monopoly (and it’s a million times quicker than the real thing).

We've had hours of fun with dobble. Monopoly. Frustration.

mancala (ancient game with stones - there was a version on the Nokia 3310 which S2 got really into on my old phone aged about 9)

My dd loves what a performance

King domino
Queen domino
My little scythe
Sleeping queens
Herbaceous - a bizarre hit with my 7 year old ds!
Loot
Zeus on the loose

Thank you for all the suggestions, going to look them all up and make some purchases.

Qwirkle and Blockus are favourites here at the moment. I like them as it's not as obvious who is winning as you go through the game, so it stops some of the tantrums - haha (Monopoly when I end up buying Mayfair!)

Smyths Toys do a good Chess/Draughts set for £12 that is excellent for that age group.

we have millions of games. Most popular are labyrinth, ticket to ride, Carcassonne, splendor (our new addiction) and dixit.

Exploding kittens.
Sleeping queen's.

Catan and Carcassonne are both great! Dixit is a really lovely game for all ages too Smile

Bop it! Not sure exactly a board game but you can still play with others. I bought a bop it for a 7/8 year old a few years ago who I didn't know particularly well! Anyway, she loved it and so did the adults!

My 7yo loves:

Cluedo (don't get the junior version, it's really tiresome)
Sleeping Queens
Zeus on the Loose
Sushi Go
Go Nuts for Donuts (the last 4 are all Gamewright card games but they're fun to play for the whole family)
Carcassonne
Harry Potter Labyrinth
Blokus
UNO
Concept
Hungry Hippos (just in case you want something less intellectual Grin)
Yeti in my Spaghetti

Cards against humanity have released a family edition, if you like fart jokes.
