What are you getting you getting your 8 year old son? Looking for ideas Smile

A Nintendo Switch game or two, lots of Animal Crossing and Harry Potter merchandise (most of it 'useful' Grin).

ILoveGroot · 15/09/2020 12:51

My almost 8 year old DS is getting:

  • horrible histories books
  • some Christmas films and popcorn
  • superzings
  • mario night light
  • colour changing glass
  • justice league cereal bowl ( with a small box of cereal which he wouldn't normally have)
  • top trumps - they have one called plop trumps all about animal poo and a wonder trumps which is loads of different things mixed together
  • Cluedo

These will be a mix of main pressures, stocking presents and presents for St nicholas night. I haven't brought him anything big (in price) yet as he hasn't asked for anything specific.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/09/2020 12:56

@ILoveGroot I got my DD Harry Potter Cluedo last year. It's her favourite game- it's based on all the HP locations, Floo powder not secret passages, and other HP extras.

We were thinking of getting DD2 a den building kit kit this year (she's nearly 8)- but she's pretty much made her own kit over the summer.

Lazysundayafternoons · 15/09/2020 12:58

My ds7 wrote his list the other day. He has asked for the new Mario Nintendo switch game, playmobil fire station and a surprise.

ILoveGroot · 15/09/2020 13:02

@Aroundtheworldin80moves I love Harry Potter and Cluedo, that sounds awesome! My DS however found the first film scary and does not yet share my love.... I keep trying!

cherryblossommorningstoday · 15/09/2020 13:04

We have an iPad on the list!

Morgan12 · 15/09/2020 13:08

A playstation 5 and probably not much else depending on what it costs. The pricing hasn't been announced yet.

anykindofcheese · 15/09/2020 13:09

Mine is 6 so a bit younger but is getting a telescope and some Mario Lego, a Switch game, and books.

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 15/09/2020 13:39

The mario Lego starter set as his main present, probably some books and art supplies

PhantomErik · 15/09/2020 13:50

My ds8 is getting:

Selection of dragons from HTTYD
Minecraft plush ender dragon
Dressing gown
Minecraft hoodie
Jurassic world puzzle
Large smashems egg
Lego Toy Story Roller Coaster
Nerf target/bag & darts

Stocking:
Minecraft joke book
Lego monster truck
Dinosaur head chattering teeth
Mini sewing kit - dog
Jurassic world matchbox car
Felt pens
HTTYD Surprise egg
T-shirt
Bath bombs
Choc coins
Marshmallows

Other recent successes for him & ds10 have been Toobz which is a tube with mini things in - we've had body parts (!) heart, lungs, intestines etc, butterflies - all different types & landmarks. All dc loved them.

Also Plus Plus which is a construction toy that also often comes in a tube & you use it to build animals/figures etc.

Both great stocking fillers.

AlwaysLatte · 15/09/2020 13:51

My 10 year old wants a Gaming chair, plus I've got him a Harry Potter Lego set and a burrito blanket so far.

ZeldaSmelda · 15/09/2020 14:41

My Ds will be nearly 8 at Christmas. He’s getting
-projector (was on offer at Amazon for £40!)

  • a mario x gaming chair
  • the new mario karts at home kit (that’s on preorder)
-an electric scooter -a garmin watch -Lego -playdough -a google mini which I for free from Spotify
Sawyersfishbiscuits · 15/09/2020 15:31

Thinking of getting my 9 year old an echo dot or possibly a new tablet as his old one is broken.
Books - need to work out what to go for after BeastQuest, Walliams and Wimpy kid...
Cosy clothes
Experience ticket? Maybe HP studios or theatre

Chickenitalia · 15/09/2020 16:32

@Sawyersfishbiscuits look at Tom Gates, David Baddiel, Anthony Horowitz for books. All very popular here and way better than the Walliams twaddle.

Marble Circuits
Hot Wires
Aquila magazine subscription
Nintendo online subs.
Roblox monthly subs.
Sphero mini (depends on cost)

mummyof2boys30 · 15/09/2020 16:33

Ps5 here too so not much else. His birthday was at the weekend and the biggest hit has been a £15 pogo stick. He's really grew out of toys this year and doesn't like lego.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 15/09/2020 16:55

Thanks @Chickenitalia We've done those apart from Anthony Horowitz but will take a gander. He's currently living his best life reading the horrible histories books. So looking for something he can get into over the next year Smile

Diddlysquatters · 15/09/2020 17:03

Watching for ideas.
My ds doesn’t have (and hasn’t asked for) a console.
He’s got plenty of Lego, hot wheels and nerf guns and a bike and a scooter.
He does like clothes but I think he’d be underwhelmed with clothes as his main present
Reluctant to book experiences as don’t know what restrictions will be like.
He’s a good boy and although he’s got lots of toys, he plays really well with them and is always grateful for his presents so I want to get him something good.

mummyof2boys30 · 15/09/2020 17:06

Another recommendation from what we have is a life ryder scooter. Mine love theirs

MooseyMoo · 15/09/2020 17:45

@Sawyersfishbiscuits More book recommendations: The Boy Who Grew Dragons series, Toto the Ninja cat, The 13 Story Treehouse series

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 15/09/2020 18:04

Thanks @MooseyMoo Smile

anyoldname76 · 15/09/2020 18:07

My 8 yr old ds is having the ps vr set, Lego, a book, hoody, slippers, neon light, Dino dig set, a teddy, nerf game, selection box, dressing gown and a few bits and bobs

Viv0321 · 15/09/2020 21:07

Thanks everyone. Some great ideas. Although he’ll probably change his mind closer to the time. Grin

DS wants an xbox - it's a joint present between the dc.
I think a Switch would be more useful at 8, but he wants to play with friends so we have to match.
His birthday is November so it's always tricky but other stuff I've considered are:
Football kits
Desk chair
Google Home (via Spotify!)
Scooter

Serena1977 · 15/09/2020 22:34

My ds who's 8 in April is getting

Nintendo switch shared with dd8
Hoverboard and go kart shared with dd8
Thomas the tank engine trackmaster set
Some books/annuals
Ticket to ride game
Little bits and bobs

drspouse · 16/09/2020 13:53

Mine will be 9 in Jan but is not very old for his age.
He's getting a refurbished Wii and games, and probably loads of Mario tat.
