What's the big present you've got your 9 year old

I name changed and can't be bothered to change it back.

I've looked at DD pile and there is hardly anything to get excited about. She wanted a DS or laptop. I know she won't use either.

I've only got her bits. Probably spent £150. I've got her clothes. A phone case. Selfie stick. Bits of make up. Slime. She's not really into toys.

Her younger DD has dolls, accessories barbies LOLs. I feel so bad x

DD 9yo - A new sports bag, a water bottle and some wheels you put on your shoes - these are what she asked Santa for, these are the 'biggest' really. Then mainly books from us and a new jumper plus stocking.

She initially asked for a Switch (I said no, too expensive) and a phone (no, too young). She hasn't asked for them since.

Thesearmsofmine · 24/12/2019 16:51

A new scooter. He only asked for a series of books and Tetris duel so has those too.

ImportantWater · 24/12/2019 16:54

A laptop. He didn’t really want anything else and while I am with you in that I don’t think he will use it, and added to that his brother broke his within a few months of getting one at a similar age, I was just too stressed before Christmas to think about another gift he might like. He doesn’t know he is getting it though as I told him I didn’t want to get him one for the reasons above! He also has a Beano subscription.

gingajewel · 24/12/2019 16:57

I have bought her a bike and a cheap mobile phone, other bits she asked for like a popcorn maker, craft bits, fairy lights for her room and lots of stationary!

Devaki · 24/12/2019 17:11

A double dolls pram

Littlepond · 24/12/2019 17:13

DD’s main present is a bedside lamp

Purpleartichoke · 24/12/2019 17:15

Mine is 10. Her main present is a loft bed. Last year we got her a drawing tablet because she loves drawing and wanted to be able to do it digitally.

formerbabe · 24/12/2019 17:17

My DD is nine...her main present is the Barbie care clinic...£40. she has two more gifts from us...27 presents from Santa...plenty from family and friends so I don't feel bad.

Everythingmagnolia · 24/12/2019 17:17

Mine has a switch lite with one game. Some pants and socks, a selection box, book, pens and a money box.

fuckitoff · 24/12/2019 17:18

Ds has had a bike as his main present.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 24/12/2019 17:22

An Amazon echo, pair of jeans, sweatshirt, shirt, just dance, book, lipgloss and a mug

Random18 · 24/12/2019 17:23

DD is 8. Her main present is some lego. Nothing big this year for either kid. She also has lots of other things but we haven't went crazy.
Her list had a iPhone, chromebook etc on it so she may be disappointed.

But really they want for nothing and have far too much already.

Spied · 24/12/2019 17:23

I have 10yo and an 8yo - so thought I was qualified to answerGrin
DD- Bike and football strip are the 'biggest'
DS-Scooter and phone (not top model)

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 24/12/2019 17:25

Mobile phone. She’s been begging for one for the past year. It’s her reward for finally ‘getting’ going to bed and staying there at bedtime (we had years of nightmares and bedtime anxiety).

notnowmaybelater · 24/12/2019 17:39

Basketball, watch, compass (his requests - 8 nearly 9).

He has older siblings and we have a tradition of sorts of children getting a computer at age 10, before that family electronics (PC, X box) are available in family spaces with fairly generous individual time limits.

Baileystruffle · 24/12/2019 17:39

Lego technic and gravitrax.
What does She choose to do with her spare time? Surely there's something hobbie related she would use?

MegBusset · 24/12/2019 17:51

Bit late to worry about it at this point on Christmas Eve but I'm sure she will enjoy her bits and have a lovely family day. Ours haven't always had a big ticket present if there was nothing specific they wanted or needed.

I would say that ours got a laptop as a joint present at age 8 and 10 and have had loads of use out of it for homework, gaming, watching videos, looking up craft stuff, recipes etc. So maybe worth looking into the January sales or for her birthday if she's still keen?

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 24/12/2019 18:17

My dd is getting a laptop, she has no idea and will be thrilled. She loves to type stories in my work laptop and I know she will get loads of use out of it. Isn't interested in a phone. Definately far too expensive if you know she won't use it. I'm sure she will be thrilled with her presents

JaJoJe · 24/12/2019 21:10

mine is 11 but when he was 9 he got a laptop.

I thought he wouldn't use a laptop either since he has a tablet, xbox and every other bit of tech (including a DS, phone, Wii and PSP he doesn't use) and my DH insisted he would love it but I admit I was wrong, he loved it and he has used it every day since.

thaegumathteth · 24/12/2019 21:13
