Board game for me and dh to play together

Can anyone recommend a board game for 2 players? I don’t want anything too complicated to learn. Definitely not monopoly as DH is too competitive!

Dobble - it’s a card game but fun
Labyrinth is good
Monopoly empire is quick and good fun, unlike the original
Othello is a mite subdued game and quite simple to play

Forbidden Island is good because you work as a team.

Once you get your head around it, it's a straightforward game to play and isn't one of these games that can go on for hours and hours.

You work together to complete a mission and it feels nearly possible every time but is actually a bit tricky so it's very exciting the first time you manage to win the game.

Dobble is fantastic.

DH and I have nearly finished the first season of Pandemic Legacy (so an ongoing game instead of one-offs). I am not much of a boardgame person but really enjoy this. It's co-operative, which takes a lot of the drama out of a match (I hate losing!) and the changing game keeps it interesting.

Jaipur is also fantastic. I especially like it because I usually win. Grin

Carcassonne is great and you can make it more or less complicated by adding expansions. Jaipur is a great 2 player game, very simple as well. Sushi Go or the more complex version Sushi Go Party is fun. DH and I have also recently got into Monopoly Deal which is a very quick and easy game. I see others have recommended Dobble, a game that is similar to this is Jungle Speed. We love board games!

Fog of Love is supposed to be very good and Love Letters is okay for 2 but better for 3/4...

Rummikub is our family's favourite game, Highly addictive and can be played with just 2 players.

If I bought forbidden island would both players be equally involved or would the “better” one have more say? Never had a cooperative game so not sure what to expect...
Any other suggestions welcome too!

I agree with a PP about Labyrinth. It's not complicated and easy to set up. I'm rubbish at it but still enjoy playing it.

Labyrinth, spent a lot of the early days of maternity playing that game. Fairly quick (we have an easy version, there is a complicated one out there somewhere my parents house and I intend to steal it)
Not exactly a board game but Yahtzee is great between 2 players as well.

Not forbidden Island. Forbidden Island is short and a bit dull once you figure it out it . Also whilst it is co-operative its not unusual for there to be an obvious winning move and a losing move which doesnt really feel like working together as much as doing what the game is logically telling you to do. and oh boy the arguments when someone takes the wrong move! Good cooperative games punish you mercilessly if you dont play cooperatively. Subterra is a much better cooperative game that leant from forbidden islands mistakes. i havent played it two player but i think it would work really well, its a good game

Yy to ticket to ride, carcasone and Qwirkle. Personally id go with lords of waterdeep, it looks more complex than it is and works as well for 5 people as 2. yy to sushi go, but i wouldn't pick it over any the above. Slightly more out there options Azul, Sagrada, Foodies.

I got Hive based on recommendations on here, but my partner and I are so evenly matched that games got same-y and short and it fell out of use after a few months.

Bananagrams is my favourite. It's great because it remains unpredictable to the end, and you're never stuck waiting for other people to take their turn.
