Board game for me and dh to play together

Can anyone recommend a board game for 2 players? I don’t want anything too complicated to learn. Definitely not monopoly as DH is too competitive!

Chess? Backgammon? Though I was teaching my new "friend" he's certainly not a boy (what do you call them???) to play PlayStation, he had never used one.

I bought Otrio as a family game but DH and I play it a lot. The board is in the living /dining room and we quite often sit a play a few rounds for 10/15 mins. It's really fun. Recently bought Tetris speed which is also really fun...

Backgammon.

DD and fiancé enjoy Nine Mens Morris! It's ancient and addictive, the rules are easily learned and you can buy nice wooden sets.

These are two player versions of larger games, though the larger ones can also be played by 2 players (or more). These are quicker to set up and get your head round.

Definitely Carcassonne. We've got a lovely game called Kodama: The tree spirits.

Forbidden island is ace but it takes a short while to understand that it's a cooperative game and not competitive
