Would like to buy dd aged 16 some new jewellery type thing - what is fashionable / what brands do your 16 year old daughters love?

Just that really.

Is Pandora naff? Any particular items of jewellery or brands your older teen dds are after? (She’s lower sixth, so nearly 17).

Thanks Grin

Pandora is naff yes. Grin I'm sure someone will be along soon to say that no, it's gorgeous...but really, it's naff.

The question is, what sort of girl is she? What's her style? Her musical interests?

What one 16 year old might love, another wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Does she like designer brands and very fashionable clothing? Or is she more quirky and alternative?

One of mine would love something vintage whilst the other would hate that.

My DD who is 17 has a Vivienne Westwood pendant which her boyfriend gave her. Her best friend has Vivienne Westwood stud earrings. They are super naff. However we have decided to get DD some of the vw earrings for her 18th on the basis that she is a bit young with still rapidly evolving tastes (she whizzes through brands) and if we got her a more classic/enduring choice (had always expected to get her decent diamond studs for her 18th) she would be unimpressed/we might never see them again/it would be a waste of money. Spoke to a friend with a DSD who is now 26 and she confirmed that is exactly what happened with an £800 pair of 18th birthday earrings.

I think Pandora is overpriced tacky tat. My 15 year old daughter used to think the same especially when it was very popular.

But actually asked for a Pandora Bracelet and charms this year 🤷‍♀️

FAQs · 08/12/2019 11:16

Does she like travelling there is a company which sells jewellery with charms showing countries you’ve travelled to.

Fairylea · 08/12/2019 11:28

Thank you everyone!

Hmmm I thought Pandora was naff but I have no idea what’s popular with that age group nice jewellery wise..!

Dd is a bit of an odd mixture of being quite creative and eco friendly / warrior type (think vegetarian save the world) but also loves big cheap fake gold earrings from asos and topshop and has a sort of long dark hair and moody look going on! She normally wouldn’t spend a lot on jewellery so wanted to get her something fancy.

The travelling thing idea is a good un.

For the rest of her presents she has money, some vouchers, socks (!), an Oxfam life changing chicken gift card and some other charity stuff from them (I think she’ll really like this), and a few cheap bits from asos.

I’ll have a browse and a think!

Oliver Bonus have some lovely jewellery worth looking at for a teenage girl with her own sense of style. The staff are really helpful if you go into store, too.

GatoFofo · 08/12/2019 11:33

Oliver Bonas, that should say (damn autocorrect)

SouthWestmom · 08/12/2019 11:37

What's your budget? The Tiffany heart was favoured by dd (20) and friends for 18th birthdays, they all wear Pandora, and are very clear on not liking middle aged women brands.

So, what we think is naff is probably a bit irrelevant. For them on a student budget, Pandora is pretty and 'posh'.

The Pandora rings (stacking), are liked, anything from TK Maxx is looked down on,

SouthWestmom · 08/12/2019 11:38

Oh this is a new one she likes:

www.poshtottydesigns.com/

(Mainstream, preppy, middle class, not boho or indie, likes ASOS, boohoo, pretty little thing)

FaithInfinity · 08/12/2019 11:45

Have a look at Tatty Devine. They do acrylic jewellery, prices start from about £15. They are fun designs.

jenthelibrarian · 08/12/2019 11:51

How about some contemporary jewellery from Tatty Devine or Wolf and Moon?
My daughter has some pieces from these designers and they are regularly on her wish-lists.

Interwebs high-fives, Faith

When dd was 16y we got her a silver Tiffany necklace and pendant which she loves and wears every day. She's also now got matching earrings.

She does have a Pandora charm bracelet which she puts charms on from places we visit - lots of cities have their own 'exclusive to the city' charms. Its one of the leather ones, not a silver one. She doesn't wear it much as they are quite chunky when full of charms but does on occasions and loves collecting the new travel chars when we go away.

The ring she wears daily is one given to her which used to belong to DH's grandmother - she never met her but MIL gave her it when she was about 14y or so. She never takes this off - its gold with diamonds and rubies iirr. I think for her 18th we are going to try and get a necklace and pendant for her to match it.

Mine like this brand
en.pdpaola.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3MPttICm5gIVF-DtCh3gzAiTEAAYASAAEgIJ-PD_BwE
But also have pandora rings and Tiffany silver bracelets

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/12/2019 12:09

Comino bracelet? For her travels.

I love Thomas Sabo as they stuff is much quirkier

whoamitojudge · 08/12/2019 16:31

Pandora is popular in our house as both myself and DD (16) have the charm bracelets.
Jewellery is a very personal choice and what one person likes will not always be the same as someone else

Newschapter · 08/12/2019 17:11

My dad likes chunky stuff, not fine jewellery.

For her 16th birthday we got her something similar to the ring attached.

She doesn't wear any other jewellery apart from this ring.

The stone in the one we got her isn't as big and there are chunky silver balls on the shoulder of it.

Newschapter · 08/12/2019 17:11

Dd not my dad Crown Hmm

Fairylea · 08/12/2019 17:33

Thank you all, I’ve been enjoying looking at all your suggestions and links, it’s so interesting what’s liked by some and not by others...! Maybe it’s a bit of a minefield but I’m enjoying browsing and hopefully something will spring out.

Could part of the present be selecting it together? Etsy is great for jewellery.

UnreasonableMerin · 08/12/2019 20:39

Missoma is very popular now.
Daisy jellwery
Clobo

Check out mococco. Have lots of different brands in one place.

twosoups1972 · 08/12/2019 20:44

Definitely Kendra Scott. American brand but they sell it in Selfridges.

SouthWestmom · 08/12/2019 20:47

These threads always seem to turn into a competition about who can suggest the most eclectic or interesting brand rather than what the majority of teenagers are wearing.

Ask your dd?

lucyellenlee · 09/12/2019 13:30

Teenagers love ear cuffs and mismatched earrings. Screampretty.com are great. Also for a modern twist on charm bracelets try lilycharmed.com

MatthewCalvin.com also do some great minimalist styles that teenagers like.
