Just that really.

Is Pandora naff? Any particular items of jewellery or brands your older teen dds are after? (She’s lower sixth, so nearly 17).

Thanks Grin

I teach 250 teenagers a week and I'd say 80% of the girls have at least one Pandora (or similar) charm bracelet or bangle.

BillHadersNewWife · 09/12/2019 22:09

Whales isn't it a cultural thing though? Depends very much on the area in which you're teaching. I teach too and not one of the girls that I've seen would wear Pandora. It's an affluent area and they're more likely to wear no jewellery or one-off things from markets and boutiques or Etsy.

SouthWestmom · 10/12/2019 00:22

God such snobbery about Pandora from the older tasteful mummies. It's on every high street for a reason and amongst dd's mix of friends (now at uni) not one from the 'affluent' to the full student loan would sneer at it. A lot of teenagers/young women are quite mainstream in their tastes.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 10/12/2019 00:29

Honestly, I wouldn't. My Mum bought me a pendant when I was 16/17 because she'd seen other teens wearing them - but it wasn't my taste at all.

I wouldn't risk buying my 14-year-old jewellery, I know I'd get it wrong.

Sorry, just my personal opinion. If she was older, maybe, but teens are so fickle.

Eleanorshellstrop1 · 10/12/2019 00:50

Have you tried Monica vinader for more classic gold and and silver jewlery. Lots of different styles so there should be something to suit most tastes

For something a bit different the might appeal to her eco warrior side, togetherband sell bracelets made from recycled plastic with different colours representing different goals

Bouledeneige · 10/12/2019 01:27

I think Astrid and Miyu are a very cool brand - sold at Selfridges and via their website. I bought my very trendy art school student DD19 some ear cuffs and earrings there. Not famous but more cool than big name brands or high street.

MistyMinge2 · 10/12/2019 01:35

I don't have a teenage DD, but a brand I come across a lot on Instagram, and Fearne cotton is doing a collection with is Carrie Elizabeth jewellery. I really like the look of some of the stuff.

BusterGonad · 10/12/2019 01:37

I would personally ask you daughter for suggestions of what she likes so you can get an idea. I'd go more VW than Pandora personally but what do I know? Grin

BillHadersNewWife · 10/12/2019 01:40

Noeuf of course they wouldn't sneer. Not if they've been well brought up.

Fairylea · 10/12/2019 07:05

Thanks all. If I asked her what sort of jewellery she likes she’d know I was getting her some for Christmas...! We’ve had a really difficult year, my mum passed away in March and so I am trying to choose something “nice” for her. You’re right though, maybe I’ll just get it wrong! Maybe I should take her for a girly day out with me after Christmas and let her choose something. I am really enjoying looking at all your links and suggestions though, there’s quite a few things on some of the less expensive ones I might treat her to just as extra little bits. (I was thinking of spending about £100-150 ish).

Wrap the cash up and take her shopping. That's what I'm doing...DD"s 15 and she's got gifts to open but she's having money too.

WeCameToDanceWithTheDead · 10/12/2019 07:23

I have liked the same style/brands of jewellery since my teenage years and have amassed a decent collection. Most of them slightly/very alternative;
Bloody Mary Metal
Regal Rose
Empty Casket
The Great Frog (probably a bit too alternative)
Tessa Metcalfe (absolutely beautiful jewellery and has an available section on her website)
Empty Casket
Eclectic Eccentricity (lots of cool space themed jewellery)
Magaret Cross
Ignore me if this isn't her cup of tea. I just love jewellery and talking about it.

AnnaNimmity · 10/12/2019 07:28

my 16 year old has put 2 necklaces on her list - one a name one and one a birthstone one.

Don't know if that helps?

My older daughter has asked for earrings from Brandy Melville!

I got her a tatty Devine necklace when she was a bit younger that she loved.

I really don't think they're into expensive jewellery at that age.

MiniGuinness · 10/12/2019 07:28

My 20 year old has a mixture of Tiffany, Pandora (the rings are lovely) Tatty Devine, Cartier Love bangle (it’s bloody mine!) and cheap shit from Amazon.

PiggyPlumPie · 10/12/2019 07:44

My girls, 20 and 15, both have nomination bracelets.

CupCupGoose · 10/12/2019 09:25

Pandora is definitely popular with that age group.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/12/2019 09:31

My 15 year old likes Tiffany jewellery.

eenymeenyminyme · 10/12/2019 09:38

My daughter is 16 and loves Pandora jewellery, so do her friends.

Susiesue61 · 10/12/2019 19:48

I bought DD a bracelet for her 18th. We went together and she picked a really dainty one from Swarovski! I would never have picked it

LolaDabestest · 10/12/2019 19:54

Pandora is pretty I wouldn't particularly west a pandora bracelet but I like them, and I'd by my daughters one, I have pandora earrings and a necklace and I also have a Tiffany necklace....and guess which one went shit? Tiffany! over rated over priced crap imo! And I'd say it's more naff than pandora as well.

FakeChristmasTreesaremynewnorm · 10/12/2019 19:59

My dd likes Estrella Bartlett estellabartlett.com

Smelly50 · 11/12/2019 07:49

Daniella Draper or salt and silver .

Smelly50 · 11/12/2019 07:52

Salt and silver is an eco friendly jewellers. Using recycled silver and nature inspired

KnobJockey · 11/12/2019 08:16

Almost 16 yo DD does not have a Pandora bracelet, but she does have the stacking rings. She has a nomination bracelet, which has the added bonus of charms being a lot cheaper than pandora, so the friends sometimes buy each other them for birthdays, etc (prices start at about £6 I believe).

BusterGonad · 11/12/2019 13:51

I currently eyeing up a ring with my birthstone in it, I'm 41 though but it's still I nuve idea regardless of age (I think).
