Dupe of a 'Reborn' doll

Hi

My 7 year old daughter would love a reborn doll for Christmas. They're just way too pricey though and our budget can't stretch to one.

Can anyone recommend an alternative? I've had a look on Amazon and the dupes have mixed reviews - I'm never sure if it's just the seller adding the positive reviews!

Does anyone have any experience of a decent reborn for under £40/£50?

I would be wary of buying fake products. Materials used are often toxic and unregulated, CE marks are easily faked. If you do go down this route make sure you do some thorough research on the company you are buying from. Personally I would say that Santa can't bring those dollar whatever reason (in our house Santa only does small gifts so that we can avoid this if we have a tight year or a listed item is unreasonable).

*Dolls. Why autocorrect thought "dollar" was appropriate I have no idea. Though if Santa can bring dollars, count me in.

Mary Shortle usually has some cheap reborns. I got a really nice one a couple of years ago for dd.

I know it's 69 but these were first ones I found on her page I'm sure she has others at lower prices but this Ione looks decent.

The Tiny Treasures dolls in Argos are absolutely adorable and are similar in style to reborn dolls.

sugarplumfairy2010 · 03/12/2019 11:38

My daughter's have quite a few of these dolls they were bought each time we went on holiday but can be bought on Amazon.x

Thanks for your replies everyone.

When I say 'dupe' I mean a similar looking doll (ie realistic looking), rather than a fake reborn.

Will have a look at the Mary Shortle site, thanks.

I've heard good things about the Tiny Treasure ones. Do you know if they have the silicone/vinyl skin?

I can't make out what brand those dolls are from the pic Sugarplum? The price looks good!

You might be better looking on second hand selling sites if you're looking for a genuine reborn. Buying new you're not going to get much quality for £40. I had one from Amazon and was lovely but wasn't really a reborn, just a lifelike plastic doll.

Crystal87 · 03/12/2019 19:58

The Berenguer newborn dolls from Smyths are also lifelike and really good for kids.

Newcatmum · 03/12/2019 20:09

I came on to say Tiny Treasure too they are lovely, I have got one for my 8 year old. It is quite realistic looking obviously not as much as a Reborn. It has a sweet smell to it and the face, arms and legs are filled with sort of bean bag type stuffing and a soft body. Not sure what material the skin is though but it's squishy and soft.

Ok the half shut eyes aren't doing her any favours but she is lovely I promiseGrin

Hi
Im a reborn doll artist and the problem is the reborn kits what we artist use are starts from £60 and up more likely to close £90. We work hours and hours to paint the already expensive kits. So if you wish to buy a decent reborn than it would cost a few hundred pounds. The chinese fake dolls what a few ppl shared made out of toxic plastic . A few so called artist sell them because the kits are very cheap but I would not give those to a child. I would suggest to buy Ashton Drake dolls they are very nice not reborn quality but at least they are safe. Reborn dolls are artist made collector dolls thry are filled with glass often very heavy and not child safe. Its like you would like to buy a painting for a child to play.

I would avoid the Mary shortle shop. The Leeds branch sells racist dolls and the owner actively supports, promotes and sells the merchandise of the ingham family from YouTube. And most of us know the scandal he has been involved with😱 (a quick google of the dads name if not)

E bay have some lovely budget reborns and the berenguer dolls at smyths toys are adorable. They have a soft bodied one and a bathable one.

Sorry for the rubbish picture they are antonio Juan dolls.

I've bought my daughter the tiny treasures doll (with eyes always closed, so slightly different to the one pp mentioned) for Christmas and it's such a lovely doll! It's 2lb in weight and has a lovely outfit with a comforter and blanket and the box changes into a crib. You can also listen to it's heartbeat.

fluffynotebook · 04/12/2019 19:05

Also forgot to mention that you can get some lovely accessories to go with it too.

We often see reborn dolls second hand on fb marketplace (dd1 loves them). Maybe see if may pop up there?

FthisS · 04/12/2019 20:18

Have you looked on the bradford exchange? I bought a reborn monkey from there.

toastlover · 04/12/2019 22:31

Thank you so much for your replies.

It's now between the Tiny Treasures and the Smyths Berenguer doll.

If you get Tiny Treasures there is an adorable xmas outfit you can get too. I am so excited for Christmas day when I can dress my babies* in their little outfits - we have boy and girl babies so I got both outfits.
*OK my daughter's babies - not mine! Ha ha.
