Morning!

New thread for the new day. Temperature is starting to drop again and it's going to be rather chilly for the weekend and the start of December!

Let's see if we need thread 9 or not! Xmas Grin

fluffy DD1 has to have a jab due to a health condition. DS1 can have the nasal spray. And I know that it’s rare to get it twice.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 18/12/2019 19:03

We'd never do everything from Santa. The kids need to know that we get them stuff too. It's a few gifts from Santa, plus stockings, then everything else from us and friends / family.

Mrsmadevans · 18/12/2019 19:08

The spray sounds so much nicer for the children. I can remember having to give the little ones injections and l hated it . I dreaded doing it to them it was horrible Sad
Jo, l like random posts mainly because they are on my wavelength Xmas Grin Santa delivered everything here too , God knows how the DC thought he got the stuff here.
Fanny DD2 had impacted wisdom teeth poor kid she was in agony till they took them out. She lived on antibiotics for 2 years Hmm
Fluffy, ours didn't have the chicken pox jabs it was so long ago they didn't have them Xmas Grin but they were fine with it thankfully.

WreckTangled · 18/12/2019 19:10

We have an imms team within the trust who just do that so we don't have anything to do with it.

I've had chicken pox twice but only a mild dose first tine.

Pharmacies and GP's have been told to start issuing antivirals to the vulnerable with suspected flu as there's been an increase in it already.

We're going near Worcester to a big house Grin

Mrsmadevans · 18/12/2019 19:11

Ahh we used to say that we paid and Santa delivered it Xmas Grin

WreckTangled · 18/12/2019 19:12

Oh and stockings plus one thing off the list come from Father Christmas. They're also only allowed to ask him for one or two small things because it's not nice to be greedy Grin then we get them a main present and everything else is from whoever buys it.

Mrsmadevans · 18/12/2019 19:12

DD2 just told me she sneaked down the stairs and saw us putting the toys out one year Xmas Grin sneaky thing never said till now lol!!

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 18/12/2019 19:13

We say that too, so they know we pay for everything and they can't have stupidly expensive stuff! Xmas Grin

The Santa stuff is from the list and other stuff what we think they'd like.

JoGose · 18/12/2019 19:18

They know we get them things, they think we pay for it and Santa delivers it to us.

mrs I hate that DD1 has to have the jabs, I’d prefer her to have the nasal spray but have been advised by GP to get the jab. You would’ve loved that post thenGrin I wish I’d screenshotted it now I could’ve pm’d you it. Oh wel!

You were lucky, flouncy, as you can be really, really ill if you drink on them.

You'd only get chicken pox twice if you had a mild dose the first time so you didn't build up enough immunity, I think. Isn't there some concern about the vaccine wearing off later on, or is that a myth?

I don't worry too much about how others do Christmas. You could go mad thinking about that kind of thing.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 18/12/2019 19:32

Once again, the NHS agrees that it's rare! I should be a doctor, ha ha! Xmas Grin

WreckTangled · 18/12/2019 19:35

It is rare to get it twice. There is some concern about it wearing off but only because it hasn't been around long enough for them to know. I will advise dd to get a booster before (if) she gets pregnant. They discussed adding it to the nhs imms schedule but they wanted to roll out the shingles vac first (which they've been doing for the last 7 years or so) and increase the uptake of mmr as it spoke be given at the same time but unfortunately that's not going so well.

I'm pretty sure that if you aren't sure you've had the mmr then your GP's might do it for you anyway. They probably wouldn't bother with anything else. Always worth asking for a phone call from your practice nurse especially given the increase in measles and mumps right now.

They don't do BCG in my area unless you're in an at risk group. I was the last cohort to have it at school before they stopped.

NerosFiddle · 18/12/2019 20:15

I have had the mmr injection 3 times. When I lived in the US for uni my records weren't properly up to date so I had to get it again if I wanted to stay on campus.

Both dc have had the chicken pox this year. Ds had it in May and then dd "apparently" took it in around September. I say apparently because it didn't look like chicken pox. It looked more like a bad rash. I would never have took her to the Gp if I actually thought it was chicken pox. Luckily it was a day no one else was in the surgery.

Now I want to know what the message said Grin

We're another one that tells them that Santa needs to be paid for the presents.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes.

I'm going to try and get the tv tonight to watch some Christmas cooking.

JoGose · 18/12/2019 20:16

flouncy yes very boastful, I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say as it’s a comment about a deleted comment. But oh wel! They said they had been given a lot of money, then said they spent a VERY large amount at Christmas, but played it off like it was nothing.

fluffy I’m not worried about how others do ChristmasGrinjust intrigued, I think it’s really fun to see how others do traditions.

My final bits to sort for Christmas are:

Stocking fillers (I keep getting ideas on what to get)
Christmas Eve boxes
And then tomorrow I’m doing a final shop for food. Then all ready to get settled down and enjoy it :).

DS missed being automatically vaccinated for Meningitis B by a month or so. But we couldn't get it done privately until he was 1!! He is vaccinated against everything he is offered.

We were going to get him the chicken pox one, but then he caught the pox. He still has two scars on his legs from two of the biggest spots.

We paid for it for then-1yo DN for Christmas last year... Do we win the prize for the worst Christmas present ever 🤣

DSis and I never found (or looked for, that I can remember) our Christmas presents. DM did mention years later that in the weeks leading up to Christmas, the door handle on the little shower room in their bedroom would conveniently break and have to be removed... Crown Grin

It's only a 5-day course, thankfully, Fluffy. I'll be all done by Sunday!! Just in time Wine

DS gets one present he asks for from Santa, one surprise, and his stocking. I don't want him wondering why he gets loads of presents from Santa and some children don't/hardly get any. And Santa doesn't bring expensive presents like the £650 Lego set he was eyeing up!!

I don't remember ever wondering about it myself when I was younger, but DS notices plot holes in the Supertato books! It's just the way his brain works Crown Smile
