When will JL air I wonder and will it be all modern telling us all how to be nice etc or will it be a good old fashioned feel good advert?

I can't believe Mariah agreed to a walkers ad, she barely ate that crisp!

Is there a Christmas Walker's advert with Mariah Carey?

To date I have watched Very, Lidl and Asda, haven't seen any others as of yet.

QueenOfIce · 14/11/2019 07:04

Just watched the JL ad, nice but I think Sainsbury's is better.

JL launched today.

Very sweet. Doesn’t advertise what they sell, though.

Saw Smyths toy shop advert yesterday. Okay.

I do miss the Woolworth adverts. They were always good.

littleredlipstick · 14/11/2019 07:12

Really dislike the dogs trust advert this Christmas I know they have to get the message out there but it breaks my heart every time it comes on Sad

Loveislandaddict · 14/11/2019 07:13

Just watched Sainsbury. The beginning reminded me of Chitty Chitty bang bang, the Child-catcher.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:14

I didn't understand the Sainsbury's ad Blush

QueenOfIce · 14/11/2019 07:26

I don't care about the 'message' I just go by if I like it or not Blush.

A market trader sells satsumas. The stall gets knocked so they all fall off. The boy picks one up, gets caught by the child catcher and banished. Woman, who knows the truth, rescues him and gives him a box of satsumas. Rather than keeping them, he goes around putting satsumas in kids stockings ( which is how that tradition starts). At the end, he walks away in a red outfit, implying he will be Father Christmas when he grows up.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:42

But if Father Christmas doesn't exist yet why are people putting their stockings out

Loveislandaddict · 14/11/2019 07:45

Can’t remember now whether the stockings had been hung up or not, or were just socks by kids beds. Good point, though.

LoonyLunaLoo · 14/11/2019 07:47

I thought the John Lewis one was rubbish 🙁 ALDI wins this year for me!

00100001 · 14/11/2019 07:51

"JL launched today. Very sweet. Doesn’t advertise what they sell, though."

It's an advert for the dragon toy... They've turned into a 'must have' toy advert, rather than a JL Advert, to get you in store through kids pester power!

00100001 · 14/11/2019 07:55

"But if Father Christmas doesn't exist yet why are people putting their stockings out"

I think they were just hanging up to dry.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:56

Ah. Thanks. I must watch tv more carefully!

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:56

Dh said it looked as though they'd invented a weapon!

QueenOfIce · 14/11/2019 07:58

I'm amazed by the gushing on the JL social media, are there people who are so loyal they'll love anything they do?! Some very over the top comments, why are people crying over a sodding dragon?!

Xmasfairy86 · 14/11/2019 07:58

Not a fan of JL ad. Gone down hill for years

Trewser · 14/11/2019 07:59

I haven't seen the JL ad. What's the stupid toy they want to pretend is sold out this year?

00100001 · 14/11/2019 08:03

A "excitable" dragon that is unable to control his flames when excited.

WaterSheep · 14/11/2019 08:04

The JL ad is absolute rubbish. It doesn't explain how the dragon can suddenly control himself, or why she's the only person in the town with a dragon. I know i'm over thinking this

I agree, it's an not so subtle advert to sell the dragon toys / merchandise.

Milicentbystander72 · 14/11/2019 08:05

I love the Sainsbury's one.

Aldi have pushed the boat out with its Greatest Showman/Robbie Williams mash-up....but I'm slightly bored of Kevin the carrot now.

Just watched JL - really liked it. As I work in Children's books (who's publisher has historically made books of the back of JL adverts) I can guarantee this will be successful. It's a fantastical, simple well rounded tale with a touch of pathos and a happy ending. People will love because their kids will love it. I don't think they're trying to re-invented the wheel with it.

PixieDustt · 14/11/2019 08:06

I love the John Lewis Christmas ad. So cute!

Milicentbystander72 · 14/11/2019 08:06

I don't think it's her dragon - it's a community dragon that she's good friends with Grin. The dragon has its own little dragon house in the village.

Trewser · 14/11/2019 08:07

A "excitable" dragon that is unable to control his flames when excited

Like a fart?

WaterSheep · 14/11/2019 08:11

In which case why is there a random dragon living in a town, and how does he afford to pay the rent / mortgage on the house. Grin I have so many unanswered questions, the AD makes no sense. Grin
