Is she too old for dolls?

After getting lots of Our generation dolls and sets last year my just turned 7 year old had asked for Barbie this year.

I'm happy to buy her dolls and she's very girly but has anyone got recommendations?
She doesn't want baby type dolls like baby Annabelle but more so barbie. Is there a more fashionable doll or something she won't grow out off? What age do barbies get played with.

I hate the LOL dolls and we have managed to stay away from buying them as it drives me crazy you can't see which ones your getting as a few we have bought she has been gutted she got the wrong one.

She also loves crafts, has lots of bead kits colouring and LOVES making Hama beads. She has a tablet but I would prefer for her to play with toys. She also asked for a mobile but I ruled that out.

To add she has some development delays related to cerebral palsy so I would say she is a very young 7.

Great, people keep telling me they are getting there kids iPads etc and no real toys so I've been questioning myself if I'm holding her back by buying toys! X

My dd7 doesn't like dolls but likes all sort of soft toys. She will get some soft toys this Xmas. She won't get any iPads or phones. The soft toys are collectibles. In addition she will get scrabble and another game. Her wish from Santa is a tent with lights.

Yes, I think Barbie is good for that age.

Also, if she loves dolls, I'd recommend the books The Doll's House and Miss Happiness and Miss Flower by Rumer Godden. DD and I loved reading them.

My niece is 9 and has a big list of toys she wants. Dolls are definitely on there........she's into Barbie and loves her build a bears too so a voucher for there could be fun ?? She also likes slime, ice cream factory type things, play doh (( the hair shop one )) and funny games that aren't too taskng (( something about a pooing dog seems to be the in thing at the mo. She loves Lego, she has a couple of the Lego friends sets because she likes thf bigger dolls but most of it has been handed down from my DS...........last time I saw her she was building a cinema for her lol dolls using assorted bricks and an old iPhone.

She is in no way too old for toys and you really shouldn't listen to adults whose kids may rely heavily on tech. Go off what your DD likes and you can't go far wrong.

Just buy her Barbies. Definitely not too old at 7.

And you aren't holding her back by buying toys. She has a tablet, that's plenty.........if anything kids who are bombarded with tech from an early age are the ones bring held back both socially and emotionally.

@banskuwansku we have that exact tent for DSD in her room. She loves it.
OP, I think 7 is perfect age for dolls still, DSD still plays with her barbies in the bath.

Our youngest DD is 7 and is still massively into dolls. She has a ‘real’ life doll - from ebay for Christmas as well as the attached Barbie thing (£49.99 Smyths exclusive, it’s huge!) and has asked for more Barbie stuff from grandparents. I’m hoping she still loves her dolls for a long time to come.

My little girl is quite a grown up 6 yo but she still loves dolls. She has asked for an out generation for Christmas. She enjoys Barbies but also loves Lottie dolls- they are fab little dolls that are more like little girls than adults and the accessories are really fab.

My daughter is nearly 10 and still loves her dolls! Went off to play with her barbies last night before going to brownies. Long may it last. No devices of their own here, there's plenty of time for that stuff later...

Have a look at Lottie dolls they are lovely and much more realistic than Barbie in the figure department!

Aww great thanks every one! Tbh we hardly use the tablet I let it die then hide the charger an it gets forgotten about. I found the more my children played with them the more they wanted to and I didn't feel it was very good as it brought out an addiction type attitude!

my dd is 7 and quite young still (still loves paw patrol and super monsters but doesnt tell her friends!)

she likes enchantimals, shopkins Shoppie dolls, Barbie chelsea dolls and my little pony equestria girls dolls.

she does also like lol dolls and has quite a few, I've bought clue checked from facebook/eBay to avoid duplicates. but there is new furniture sets which are £15 you get the doll on the front and it opens into a playset with furniture. quite good value for lol!!! I think there's 4 types.

she likes some old bratz dolls and monster high dolls we got from charity shops too but I'm not so keen on the skimpy outfits and stick thin figures.

7yo is certainly not too old for dolls.

My dc have liked design a friend dolls as a slightly older feeling doll to play with.

This comes up every few months on mums net is my daughter to old for dolls!! And every time most people say the same thing if you child is still at primary school then get them the doll they want and be happy they are still wanting to play and not sit in front of a screen.

Thanks everyone! I don't feel she is too old for dolls but I also want the type of dolls she will play with. There is so much pressure for screen toys but like I've said we don't use them.

I also want to avoid been sucked into "fad" dolls like LOL as it frustrates me so much the surprise factor!

Have you thought about Polly Pocket dolls? They're very tiny and fun. I don't know if the pieces would be too small if she has any fine motorskill impairments but I ended up with a cheap one to wrap, plus my eight year old just wanted a ridiculous all singing all dancing baby buggy so I got her the cheapest reborn doll to go in it, too. And that's basically all she will unwrap bar the usual odds and sods from family. She only knows about the pram, so she will have a surprise with the doll and the PP. I'm expecting her to enjoy this for a long time or I wouldn't have bought the bits.

She got into Barbie earlier this year, and has a nice little collection now. I buy on Amazon mostly but you can also buy items in The Entertainer which are way cheaper but fit Barbie

My 9 year old still enjoys barbie although I hate fashion dolls, she's a very feisty kid so I've learned to live with it.
She and her 7 year old brother are mad about Sylvanian Families which is another toy of 1000 tiny pieces but so cute.
I think that children are only too old for dolls when they feel too old for dolls. My 13yo has a couple of Monster High dolls she has proudly displayed and I know she still plays about with them from time to time.

No 7 isn't too old! Be grateful she isn't asking to electronics and buy her the barbies. I played with barbies until I was 12

Sainsbury's have loads of barbie stuff in their toy sale this morning half price

My almost 8 year old is sitting jmplaying with her Barbie's and Barbie cars as I type. I've got her more Barbie's for Christmas and the Barbie ambulance. Just 10 minutes ago we came across a Barbie limo on Argos which is just new out so she has asked for that to be added to her list. I love that she still plays with Barbie's, she tries to be a lot older for her age than I like sometimes. Asking for make up, nail stuff etc so I am really happy when I see her playing with her Barbie's. She hates baby dolls though she's scared of them.

I second the Lottie Dolls. They have cool themes like astronaut and fossil hunter, as well as birthday and gymnast. There's a boy version, various ethnicities, and horses and stables etc

Have you any playmobil? That still gets played with in our house by 11 year olds

My dd had a Lammily doll a few years ago, made to a natural body shape, and with all sorts of outfits. She liked the doll as it is more like a real teenage girl.
