We will have a few hours in London on Friday 13th December.

I fancied seeing a show but the DC (8 & 10) don't fancy any on offer and just want to have a ''wander around and go for a nice dinner''
So the plan thus far is Store the luggage at Paddington station, Uber to Liberty for a wee bit of Christmas shopping, Walk to Trafalgar Square to see the tree and hopefully hear some carol singing.

Then find somewhere lovely for dinner, Somewhere with a festive feeling. Even a nice pub maybe?
I really fancy Rules restaurant but don't think that would be particularly family friendly.

Anyone have any recommendations?

im not sure if this is 100% what you are looking for but we ate[[https://www.francomanca.co.uk/menu/ here]] close to christmas with the dc and the food was fantastic, they played xmas songs and had decorations up etc. its a 5 minute tube ride or 7 minute walk from Trafalgar square x

Perhaps somewhere in Covent Garden Market? It is always done up beautifully for Christmas. There’s a Shake Shack if your kids like burgers or some other less junky options with seating in the covered market area. It’s also less than 10 mins walk from Trafalgar Sq.

Op I'd go for rules and usually very posh places are usually very child friendly!

Def not shake shack

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 19:26

Those both sound lovely.
I love Covent Garden but I don't think I've ever been at Cristmas time :)

I'm excited already, So Covent Garden is definitely the area I'd like to go to.

There was a family with 3 children under 10 at the table next to us last time we went to Rules. I love it there it's got a lovely atmosphere.

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 19:33

I read the menu from Rules out to the children and although they both managed to choose something, They weren't overly enthusiastic though.
I'm sure they'd like it once they were there.

They are both Downton Abbey fans, So if I tell them it's the restaurant where Lady Edith went, That just might swing it.

@georgialondon I'm really tempted.

Brasserie Zedel has the glam factor and handy for Liberty.

TemporaryPermanent · 02/10/2019 19:47

Could you stretch for a black cab? It just seems more festive and London than an Uber.

georgialondon · 02/10/2019 19:51

@MovinOnUp they do have a vegetarian menu too, but it's not on the website. I always order from that as I'm not a meat fan. The main menu is very adult I think.

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 19:51

@TemporaryPermanent You are so right :)
My wee boy enjoys a black cab, It's the flip down seats he loves!

Covent garden has such lovey Xmas lights and tree that you won't even need to go to the Trafalgar Square one... not that I'm trying to tempt you! Grin

Joe Allen?

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 20:19

@georgialondon Do they have carol singers though? That's what is drawing me to Trafalgar :)

Did zedel used to be the Atlantic bar?

georgialondon · 02/10/2019 21:24

I have seen them there but I'm not sure if you could guarantee when.. but then I can't remember when I last saw them at Trafalgar Square either. I live and work near to T-S so really I should know. Hopeless!

MovinOnUp · 02/10/2019 21:55

I am getting so excited.

I feel this might be the last Christmas where the children both believe.
They are with their Father next year so I am determined that this is going to be the best Christmas ever.
