What do your 9yo boys want for Christmas? Mine is talking about iphones...

He's definitely not getting an iphone!

He got a bike last year, and a scooter for his birthday.
We are drowning in lego.
His only other 'want' is Pokemon cards!

What are you planning on getting your 9 year olds?

So far my dcs haven't asked for anything specific but my 9yo has recently saved up and bought himself a stunt scooter so I'm thinking of getting him a little ramp that he can use in the garden to do (basic) tricks on. Various one on Amazon from around £25.

banskuwansku · 28/09/2019 20:50

So far we have bought Star Wars and space Lego... he plays with Lego everyday so not a waste.

He would like to have a phone, iPad and Xbox etc. He is not getting them.

I am also struggling to think what else he could get. I have been thinking of microscope, solarscope or metal detector. Dh isn't really keen on them.

Previous successes apart from Lego have been telescope, small and cheap arcade game console, Star Wars books, Beano subscription.

WannabeGlamper · 28/09/2019 21:25

Mine usually wants whatever he saw 5 minutes previously 😬.

I try to give him a range of things - so, books, toys, Lego, a computer game etc. He gets a stocking with little bits and pieces as well (some of which are useful).

He sometimes asks for things, and can also be prompted to ask for the right thing when needed 😄😳.

ihearttc · 28/09/2019 22:49

Mine has his birthday in November as well.

He is getting new football kit, boots, Fifa and a stunt scooter for his birthday.

Then probably for Christmas Nintendo switch, Gravitrax, magic set, Harry Potter Dobble and a slime kit which he will love as I’ve said no countless times.

Zhx3 · 28/09/2019 22:53

Lego, Pokemon and a football kit, I would imagine!

ChildminderMum · 28/09/2019 23:21

Mine has no interest in football or Harry Potter unfortunately!

Following. My 9 year old is obsessed with video games but they are very highly regulated in this house as he gets so addicted. Unfortunately not much interest in lego and he already has crates full of the stuff..
At a loss actually what to get him...

Blankscreen · 28/09/2019 23:38

My D's wants. a smart TV for his bedroom. I'm not keen so need inspiration for something else.

It was his 9th birthday in August and he got a hover board and kart and he loves it! (In case anyone want am idea)

Blankscreen · 28/09/2019 23:40

Think we will.get him gravitrax as that looks good

stucknoue · 28/09/2019 23:45

Can I give you advice from someone with older kids, don't just buy them a set value of yet more stuff they don't actually want. I can understand reluctance to buy games systems and iPhones at 9 but putting money aside for a future purchase is a good way to get them to save for the things they want that are expensive. (Smartphones are far more expensive now than when my girls got their first smartphones 8 years ago ). I've cleared out cupboards recently with sealed gifts they never touched bought by me or well meaning relatives, craft kits especially

Iamnotapheasantplucker · 29/09/2019 00:22

An Instax mini camera, he loves it. The film is expensive but he's got much better at taking pictures so less wastage now

WannabeGlamper · 29/09/2019 00:24

Yes, I agree with your point @stucknoue 🙂.

DS's birthday was also quite recently, and he hasn't yet had time to play with everything. I think he will in time, but I really don't want to go overboard at Christmas. I'm also trying to buy second hand plastic things if I feel I definitely want to buy them.

Wincher · 29/09/2019 00:39

Following for ideas. I'm thinking of getting Nintendo Labo for mine - we got a Switch last Christmas. For his birthday he got a Match of the Day magazine subscription which he loves getting every week, if that's any help.

WannabeGlamper · 29/09/2019 09:02

@Wincher, I wonder about LABO as well. I think it's probably too expensive for us given how much of our budget it would take, and how much it would be played with. I do know that DS would love it, and be very excited to receive it though 🤔.

WannabeGlamper · 29/09/2019 09:05

DS has a Phoenix magazine subscription - it's weekly, and he really loves it. It arrives on a Friday, which is quite nice.

ChildminderMum · 29/09/2019 09:16

We have Phoenix and Beano subscriptions already. What do you get for the boy who has everything (except an iphone!) Grin

Totally appreciate the point about not spending money for the sake of it too.

I think we might get tickets for something/day out as his main present.
The Gravitrax looks good and I like the idea of a small scooter ramp. Some new games for his Wii too.
Pokemon cards and maybe a science kit of some kind.

Our two boys got stunt scooters last year and they are on them every day. This year they want a razor power rider. They are also getting a cheap version of go pro as a surprise. Got it on amazon for £32

Bluewavescrashing · 29/09/2019 10:15

My kids just don't play with play sets. We've had happyland, sylvanian families, playmobil and imaginext at various stages but all have been abandoned and then given away.

They love lego, kinetic sand, slime factory, trampoline. We got a laser quest set of guns which went down well. Board games, scooter, a really nice keyboard as they're having piano lessons.

SaveMeBarry · 29/09/2019 10:26

@Bluewavescrashing could I ask the name of the laser quest set? We're thinking of getting one for DS but the various ones I've looked at online had mixed reviews.

kissmewherethesundontshine · 29/09/2019 10:44

My DS (9) has asked for no toys this year he just doesn't play wit them (footie mad!)

His list is football kits, football boots, goalie gloves etc

Bluewavescrashing · 29/09/2019 10:47

@SaveMeBarry I don't know unfortunately, we didn't keep the boxes. The gun is white with a chest pack that receives the signal. Sorry I can't help.

Wenchelda · 29/09/2019 12:00

@mummyof2boys30 can you link to the cheap go pro please? That's something my 9yo would like Smile

SandraOhshair · 29/09/2019 22:21

I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of signing up to a stem kit subscription service I saw on Instagram recently. They get a monthly pack to build. Mine would love it and it gets him away from the switch / ipod. (Which are pricey but at that age they will totally get there monies worth).
So I'm thinking that, a switch game, loads of fact based books which he loves.

mummyof2boys30 · 30/09/2019 15:55

Not sure how to link it . Got on amazon and its called Akaso E7000. It was on amazon deal last week for £32/£33. Gets good reviews

Chocolateteabag · 30/09/2019 20:45

DS1's friends are getting fitbits, not surre DS1 cares much about them. He'd like a Games Console (no)
He'd like a phone (no)
He loves lego sets and click together Airfix stuff - but we are drowning in lego and models so I really can't face getting any more just to see it made once then added to the pile

I'm thinking vouchers and tickets for events in 2020 to look forward to. Maybe some second hand stuff to open on the day.
