If you could only have one thing...

If you could only have one thing at Christmas, what would it be? Can be a food, a scent, a song, an experience, a place... but only one.

I’m torn between the taste of stuffing and the scent of cloves.

My husband's roast potatoes!

Pigs in blankets, that smell of oranges and cloves comes a very close second!

Cherryrainbow · 05/09/2019 21:20

Christmas dinner with the family

That one moment of perfect anticipation on Christmas Eve when the kids are fresh out of the shower and in their new Christmas jammies. It's the best bit by miles.

Barbarara · 05/09/2019 21:40

Ooh these are lovely!

Perfect gravy!

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 05/09/2019 21:44

The tree. No contest.

Aderyn19 · 05/09/2019 21:48

Fairy lights are the thing I like most about Christmas.
But in terms of feelings, it's that sense of satisfaction on Christmas Eve that I've done a good job in choosing presents my kids will love. It's harder as they grow up and have money to buy their own stuff whenever they want!

Weezol · 05/09/2019 21:51

One hour of complete silence.

Ihatesandwiches · 05/09/2019 21:52

My oil burner. I lit it today, because it was a bit gloomy, frankincense and myrrh. Tis the scent of Christmas :-)

MrsElf · 05/09/2019 23:30

A carol service, specifically when all the little children sing Away in a Manger.
(I would obviously then have my tree for my summer birthday, which I’ve been meaning to do for years)

Geekynzmum · 06/09/2019 06:03

A big family Christmas with all my relatives who are overseas, especially my sister and niece. Smile

InventedthePostIt · 06/09/2019 06:39

Ooh toss up between the christmas lights in the next village. They are lovely and just remind me of our walks home on Christmas night when I was younger. Or christmas songs, just make me happy.

Youseethethingis · 06/09/2019 06:42

The lovely aroma of my mums mince pies in the oven. I don’t like mince pies but I was most perturbed the year she didn’t make any. The house just didn’t smell right on Christmas Eve.

RuffleCrow · 06/09/2019 06:47

Watching The Snowman with the kids on Christmas Eve. And then the Snow Dog.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/09/2019 06:55

Ohh

Cannot think of one thing but I have a soppy Christmas Memory :

When DS was 2yo and I was pg with DD .
We went up to London, DS was snuggled in the back pack carrier on DH shoulders, high up and warm.
We went to see the lights on Regent St , little swine fell asleep Xmas Grin
Then when came out of the station at Convent Garden , it just started to snow .

SushiGo · 06/09/2019 06:57

First thing on Christmas morning when the lights are on the tree and the presents are laid out but not unwrapped yet.

I love that perfect, still, moment of anticipation.

RoseMartha · 06/09/2019 07:01

To know the dc and I have somewhere new to live. (We are not homeless but need to move and will have to downsize bc of divorce and I just hope I can get something suitable when the time comes). But as you are asking what one thing would I like for Christmas that would be to know we have somewhere to move to. Everything is so uncertain.

GlasshouseStoneThrower · 06/09/2019 07:06

Heavy snow on Christmas Eve (once the whole family has safely arrived).

TemporaryPermanent · 06/09/2019 07:14

The start of the Nine Lessons and Carols service on christmas eve when I'm in the kitchen, the tree is up, all the fuss is over and it's just love and peace. And food.

ILoveAnOwl · 06/09/2019 08:03

Nativity plays. If it incorporated 'Hark, the herald angels sing!' accompanied on an epic cathedral organ, that would be even better.

sandgrown · 06/09/2019 08:10

The traditional nativity play with small children singing Away in a Manger . All my DC and DGC are too old now and I miss seeing them .

missmouse101 · 06/09/2019 08:10

Boxing day lunch which is always tasty and even better knowing it's all over for another year, thank god.

Mrsfussypants1 · 06/09/2019 08:49

The scent of a real Christmas tree. Walking into house after a day at work to be welcomed to the aroma is something I miss but currently not possible with two indoor cats. I bought scenticles last year and they werent even close.

BiddyPop · 06/09/2019 14:33

The quiet half hour I spend lying on my back on the sitting room floor looking upwards into the tree. It is some night that DH is out doing something else, and I have managed to get DD to bed at a reasonable hour. The main lights are all off, the stove is lit, the tree lights are on, and I have a glass of something nice to drink while I take the time to slow down and contemplate the year finishing, the year ahead and just take stock for myself.

There is a quiet 10 minutes with the family on Christmas Eve doing similar after we light the Christmas candle, which is also lovely, but not quite so peaceful.
