How early do your kids wake up Christmas morning?

TabithaBraithwaite · 22/12/2018 19:40

On a good day my girls wake at 6am. Last Christmas they were awake at 4:30am with the excitement of stockings on Christmas morning.
What time do you kids wake on the 25th?
Any tips to get mine to sleep later??

I’m thinking of keeping the stockings in my bedroom- it might give me an extra half an hour at least

8am

We did a fibre optic tree on a timer (hall at the foot of the stairs).
We put DS and DD in the same room on the Christmas Eve night so they woke up together .
I put their stockings in the room (they had gorgeous bags with little twinkling lights on them) and we'd hear them at 4am rustlng and chattering .

Then , DS would go to the stairs to check the tree . Once the lights came on, he'd run back to tell DD "He's been " Xmas Grin

Now they're 19yo and 16yo. They probably won't even wake up on Christmas morning, maybe haul themselves through for breakfast at 11am .

7am. I refuse to get up any earlier, they’re not allowed to wake me before then, I send them back to bed if they do.

BentNeckLady · 22/12/2018 21:45

I’m normally awake first. We’re normaly downstairs at half 8 ish.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 22/12/2018 21:48

I've a 4 yr old and I'm hoping to get a 7am lie in

Deadringer · 22/12/2018 21:49

Between 8 and 9, sometimes as late as 10.

FenellasRedVelvetDress · 22/12/2018 21:59

My DD has never been up before 8am.
In fact, most years we have woken her up about 8.30!!
No WAY on this earth would i allow her up @3.30/4 am. The day will be spoilt as the child will be shattered and wingey by 2pm.
Never never understood people who allow their kids up @ 5.30am or another stupid o clock time. Can people not parent well enough to say “ no, it’s too early - go back to bed” to ensure one of the nicest days of the year isn’t spoilt by getting up too early? 🎅🏼🌲🎄🎄🎄

homebirds · 22/12/2018 22:02

I would be hushing quickly back to bed saying "he hasn't been". I wouldn't do anything before 7.30 but more likely 8.30/9!!

Rogueone · 22/12/2018 22:04

Mudmonster same here!

BifsWif · 22/12/2018 22:04

Mine would be up at 3am if they could!

I set an alarm for 5.45 and fill their stockings then. I don’t mind getting up any time after that. I’ve usually been awake most of the night because I’m so excited anyway Blush

gemdrop84 · 22/12/2018 22:05

Mine are the oddest children (10 & 5) and for the last 2 years haven't got up until after 8am! Xmas Shock I've jokingly bought them matching pyjamas for Christmas Eve that say "Wake Me Up For Presents!!" Xmas Grin I'm always up at 6ish so I make a cup of tea, go back to bed and read...making as much noise as I can Xmas Grin...it never works!

BifsWif · 22/12/2018 22:06

I should add, mine rarely sleep past 6.30am on a normal day.

Ragwort · 22/12/2018 22:06

My DS has never woken early on Christmas Day, perhaps because he is an only child and there’s no one else winding him up, we are always up, showered, lunch veg prepped, first coffees drunk before he surfaces, even worse now he’s a teen Grin.

SueWellis01 · 22/12/2018 22:12

Hi Tabitha, I keep them up all night until the cry with boredom, just my way of parenting. This allows the kids to sleep through Christmas Day and for me and the hubby to have a few (loads) of drinks !

TabithaBraithwaite · 22/12/2018 22:15

lol 😂 Sue

@user1471453601 that sounds fun Grin how did the neighbours discover you were awake?! How friendly were you with them before then?

Mine usually wake between 8-10, usually have to be woken. Feel I've jinxed myself for this year now though.

SueWellis01 · 22/12/2018 22:24

Hi tabby just joking Hun xxxx

Girlicorne · 22/12/2018 22:27

We did 4.54am a few years ago, I felt rough all day. This year the kids have said 6am, DH has said 7am. So we compromised on 6am :-)

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 22/12/2018 22:29

Mine are 20 and 23, so I’m up before them. Xmas Grin

BillyAndTheSillies · 22/12/2018 22:40

Last year DS was up early, but mainly because he appeared to have no concept that some people need more than four hours sleep to function.
This year is the first year that he understands what's going on. We will attempt to put him to bed at about 8, he's already fizzing with excitement so let's see how that goes.
He's been sleeping until 9ish on a weekend at the moment so providing no one flushes a toilet, sneezes or farts loudly (YES DH I'M LOOKING AT YOU!) we may get a lie in until 8ish.
Half tempted to put his stocking outside his bedroom so he doesn't spot it at his nightly (for the last fricking two weeks) 3am rendition of "Rudolph the red nose reindeer".

bumblebee39 · 22/12/2018 22:47

Not before 7 if they know what's good for them!

But in all probability about 5 despite blackouts and a late night and pressies Xmas eve

It's stocking excitement... Wondering if the French have it right and we should do it Xmas eve and then chill out on Xmas day!

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 22/12/2018 22:58

Mine have never woken up any earlier on Xmas day. I'm usually the first up. Need a coffee in peace before the day starts!!

TheLastNigel · 22/12/2018 23:01

It used to be about 4.30.now they are 11.5 and nearly 13 it's more like half past eight. I weirdly miss the old days of them being so excited they got up before the Sun. (but I don't miss it so much that I ever want to do it again 😂)

user1471453601 · 22/12/2018 23:12

Slappin, our living room lights were on, and we knew them very well. They were very fond of DD and had bought her a lovely present😀. So I was happy to let them in and watch their (some what inebreated) joy as DD opened their present..I remember it as a really joyful time, with people who were at very different stages of their lives

wendz86 · 22/12/2018 23:12

I have always got up early at Christmas so don’t blame my kids. When my eldest was 4 she woke at 3 am but wasn’t allowed to open anything till about 6. Normally they’d be up between 6-7.
