Am I a horrible parent for not buying the pooing unicorn?

5yo DD has asked Santa for (amongst other things but not loads) a rainbow poopsie. It's fifty quid. We could afford it but it's a huge amount of money for tatt.

I'm 99% sure I'm holding my ground but 1% of me is wobbling as we get closer to Xmas.

She's got everything else on her list and will get loads of other stuff on Xmas day from me and DH and her grandparents
(including some poopsie slime that I bought on impulse in Smyths tonight!)

Tell me I'm right not to buy it please....

Would she like a unicorn fingerling instead? Much cheaper and no slime mess

oh4forkssake · 18/12/2018 22:09

Don’t do it. You know it’ll be in the corner by New Year’s Eve.

I’m borderline at my mother’s level of ‘if it’s advertised on telly, you can’t have it’

Stand strong. We’re with you.

Valasca · 18/12/2018 22:14

It’s £10 for a tub of slime with toy inside from the same company. I’d buy that and explain the unicorns don’t work well...google YouTube videos showing how they don’t work (they don’t) and the elves are working on a new version for next year.

HauntedPencil · 18/12/2018 22:15

I think you really should say no to the slime shitter.

I get them the odd faddy things but FIFTY quid for that is bonkers.

shalll · 18/12/2018 22:25

I bought a chocolate coin maker Xmas BlushXmas Blush

It is the only thing DD wants and she's been going on about it for weeks. Expect it's rubbish but at least it was only £15

Ember12 · 18/12/2018 22:34

I've bought it, was one of the few things she asked for. If you can afford it I would! Just seeing her face light up on Christmas morning makes buying overpriced plastic crap worth it for me.

MinorRSole · 18/12/2018 22:42

I haven't bought it for dd or the remote control trax thing ds wanted. The reviews for both are shocking and the last thing I want is disappointed children! They will be thrilled with what they do have and, if anything like previous years, will have totally forgotten what they had requested.

Bumbumtaloo · 18/12/2018 22:44

I was tempted to get DD2 one, she is obsessed with slime and poo. But like MrsScamander I saw them on the program with Phil and tbh it convinced me not to buy it.

PoohBearsHole · 18/12/2018 22:49

hadn’t heard of it, looked it up, fuck me that’s ugly - don’t do it op!!!!

sophisticatedsarcasm · 18/12/2018 22:50

No coz the stuff gets everywhere and us bitch to get off of linen. My daughter opwon some one day, ended up ruinin g a tshirt if hers. It promptly disappeared

PodgeBod · 18/12/2018 22:51

I was going to buy 2 but my mum did instead. My DD has wanted it for months and then her little sister will want it too. And they are really too young BlushOh well, it is a lot of money (and we arent well off) but its what she wants.

PoohBearsHole · 18/12/2018 22:51

get this instead - slime, poop and smaller - a good compromise 😂
POOPING UNICORN

Youngandfree · 18/12/2018 22:52

We have this scenario exactly too... I haven’t bought it!! But I did but her some slime...(first and last time)

PasswordRejection · 18/12/2018 23:18

Google slime health risk and read some of the numerous news pieces from the last couple of weeks!

Lindy2 · 18/12/2018 23:30

It's the only thing my 7 year old actually wants. I have got one for her (luckily on a 3 for 2 toy deal so not quite so expensive).
I agree as adult it looks pretty rubbish. For my 7 year old though, it will make her Christmas and as she actually doesn't really ask for much I want to get her what she has actually chosen.
I've also got her a Mr Frosty. I always wanted a Mr Frosty as a child but never got one. Now I'll finally get to play with one Grin (and yes I know Mr Frosty is probably rubbish too).

HauntedPencil · 18/12/2018 23:34

Mr Frosty, that's very true.

I got one!

HauntedPencil · 18/12/2018 23:36

It is tricky if it's the only one thing they really really want, mine always never seem that set on one thing.

Reaa · 18/12/2018 23:40

its shit

To anyone wondering if they have done the right thing by not buying it, you have, it's a waste of £50, the slime kit itself is ok is but the unicorn is just crap, ours never worked as it should of and spent the evening, sitting in the bath as the slime would not stop coming out.

HollySwift · 18/12/2018 23:52

Nope!

This is why we get ours to write ‘lists’ but then reiterate that FC only brings one present of his choice. (And fills stockings). Instant get out of jail free card Grin

suzabell83 · 18/12/2018 23:53

We bought the smaller one for £10, and she enjoyed making the slime, but did admit to being disappointed in it. I think the advertising has taken all the kids in, when in fact it's not that good, and certainly not worth £50.

Bumbumtaloo · 18/12/2018 23:56

To elaborate on my earlier post, I decided against them after seeing them on the TV because I know my DD would be disappointed with it and it wouldn’t be played with. I have bought stuff over the years that I thought was absolute shite but knew my DD’s would love it. I’m still bitter I never got a Mr Frosty!

5SecondsFromWilding · 19/12/2018 00:11

I think an awful lot if what children ask for at Christmas is overpriced tat, often with the potential to cause stains or noise. My general rule is that if I can afford to get the desired tat, I do. I've bought DD some lovely gifts that will be played with for years but I've also bought her a poopsie because she's 4 and will get a kick out of it.

SD1978 · 19/12/2018 07:18

Does anyone who has one actually like it?! I'm now considering returning it ASAP.

HexagonalBattenburg · 19/12/2018 08:00

I've refused any slime or pooing unicorns or unicorn related poo here.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 19/12/2018 08:07

DD aged 6 has been begging for one for months and saving her pennies (she’s saved about £7 Grin ). So we bought it for her. I’m not put off by the tat element, but the health warnings about slime etc yesterday have worried me!
