Starter is halloumi salad
Main roast turkey, baked ham, pigs in blankets, veggie stuffing, roast parsnips, roast potatoes, green beans red cabbaGe and leek gratin...and gravy
Pud is ameretto trifle
Cheese board
.......would you like that as a guest? I’m aiming for minimum prep on the day

Sounds delicious!

Janus · 18/12/2018 20:28

I would!! Do think halloumi is an acquired taste though (but personally I love it)! Not sure if you need a turkey and ham though?? Unless you are feeding the 5.000 and need it to bulk out? Could save that for Boxing Day?

ShowOfHands · 18/12/2018 20:28

Do you know the guests well? They're the people to ask.

I'm teetotal so wouldn't want the trifle and would like more veg but that's what I would do as a host. I would be happy with whatever a host served and grateful for the effort.

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2018 20:31

Yeah it’s family so I know who can have what. Ive done two meats to bulk it out and so i don’t have to cook the next day!But I want a bit of wow factor so wondered what people thought

Thank you! I’d left parsnips off my list.

Sounds delicious.

Can I have the trifle recipe? We’re having pavlova and Christmas pud but I have a hankering for amaretto trifle now.

UnderMajorDomoMinor · 18/12/2018 20:32

I hate hallomi so might run that past people. That aside it sounds fab!

OneStepMoreFun · 18/12/2018 20:33

It sounds fantastic. But personally I'd not want a starter as rich as halloumi before Christmas dinner, and I wouldn't serve both turkey and ham on the Day. urkey for Christmas Day, leftovers plus baked ham for Boxing Day. Amaretto trifle sounds great and so do leeks gratin..

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 18/12/2018 20:34

I'd be gutted with only green beans and red cabbage for veg, sorry!

HRTpatch · 18/12/2018 20:36

You missed the parsnips and leeks

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2018 20:39

Oh I’m doing carrots too...sorry missed them off. Will try and post trifle recipe but iPad going really slow. It says use sherry but im using amoretto

Roast parsnips and potato go in a different category to veg for me 😃 I have no idea why!

BestIsWest · 18/12/2018 20:43

Ta, that trifle sounds perfect.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 18/12/2018 20:43

Now I’m wondering if I’m doing too much? But we all love veg!

Roast potato
Mashed potato
Broccoli
Carrots in butter and honey
Roast parsnips
Cauliflower cheese
Sprouts sautéed with bacon
Mashed carrot and swede
Spring greens

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2018 20:44

Sadly nobody will entertain a sprout!

Yum!!

MrsGrindah · 18/12/2018 20:47

Show do you manage to cook all your veg to time and serve it hot? I’d love more veg but I just can’t find room to cook it all

shpoot · 18/12/2018 20:49

I'd ditch the halloumi salad and the green beans. The red cabbage id put in a bowl so it's optional.

For starter I prefer prawn cocktail or a small bowl of soup.

Green beans are soooo boring for me. Carrots, parsnips and peas would be better for me I think.

Also wouldn't fancy the trifle but I don't have a sweet tooth so I'm used to skipping the puds

Janus · 18/12/2018 20:51

Sprouts?! Am I the only one who loves sprouts?!

shpoot · 18/12/2018 20:52

I've just added carrot and swede to my list. Mashed. I'll mash it earlier and bang it in the microwave for a few minutes! No mashed potato necessary here. Just going with roasties this year I think

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 18/12/2018 20:53

Roast potato and parsnips in the same tray in the oven whilst turkey is resting
Mashed carrot and swede/cauliflower cheese/sprouts pre cooked the day before in small disposable trays (chinese takeaway ones) covered in foil and put in the bottom of the oven for 20 mins
Broccoli/carrots/spring greens in the steamer

Deadringer · 18/12/2018 20:54

You have to have sprouts at Christmas it's the law, even if no one eats them. Otherwise it sounds lovely.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 18/12/2018 20:54

Mashed potato in the microwave! again, pre cooked

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 18/12/2018 20:56

i would ditch the starter, and do carrots as an extra veg. Batons with orange/butter so they are all glazed and tasty.

SusanWalker · 18/12/2018 20:57

I love sprouts Janus. Have had them at least once a week for the last few weeks. I much prefer them to brocolli.
