Starter is halloumi salad
Main roast turkey, baked ham, pigs in blankets, veggie stuffing, roast parsnips, roast potatoes, green beans red cabbaGe and leek gratin...and gravy
Pud is ameretto trifle
Cheese board
.......would you like that as a guest? I’m aiming for minimum prep on the day

I am doing carrots... just forgot to mention them. I have to do a starter . It is The Law and the Christmas police will get me if I don’t apparently

I am doing 8 different veg and yes they'll all be hot Smile

Spam88 · 18/12/2018 21:32

Please ignore everyone telling you to only serve turkey, it's definitely two meats minimum for Christmas dinner!

I'm not sure halloumi salad will really work as a starter (much as I bloody love the stuff), I think it needs to be lighter? Maybe just some pate or soup or something along those lines?

Otherwise, all sounds lovely!

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 18/12/2018 21:33

Yes ditch the starter. Not very festive and more of a summer cheese.

I like the main but don't think you need a Ham and a turkey. Ham for Boxing Day my Christmas breakfast if I'm lucky). Maybe a veggie main if you want a choice.

I hate Ameretto. And cream. Could you have something else out too for pudding even if it's just mince pies and brandy butter or something?

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 18/12/2018 21:35

if you have to do a starter and want to stick with cheese then pear and stilton, bit of salad, toasted walnuts, walnut dressing would be more wintery.

jocktamsonsbairn · 18/12/2018 23:19

Yum - apart from the trifle but I have never liked trifle! Plus can't do sweets when drinking white wine so I'd skip puss and go straight into cheese board anyway. Halloumi is a fab starter!!!

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/12/2018 23:37

Veg is my favourite part! We have cauliflower cheese, parsnips, carrots, sprouts, broccoli, peas, red cabbage ....

I wouldn't like halloumi as a starter.

GreenTulips · 18/12/2018 23:40

Where are the Yorkshire puddings???
DH would want bread sauce

Butteredghost · 19/12/2018 01:44

That sounds great! I think doing two meats is good even for a small - medium crowd. I do both for 6-8 people, just buy smaller bits of each.

MrsGrindah · 22/12/2018 20:51

Decided to go with the halloumi starter Cos everyone likes it. We will have a long leisurely lunch so shouldn’t be too filling.Actually looking forward to the cooking!

We always have ham plus another meat, so I'm with you on that, MrsGrindah.

This year, our menu is:

Starter - half a lobster tail Thermidor (not very big at all!) with a lettuce, parsley, and tomato garnish. Sliced granary bread and butter.

Main - Gordon Ramsay's roast goose (with citrus peel) and date and red wine sauce, sliced ham, potato stuffing, sprouts, carrots, roast parsnips and potatoes, bread, apple, and cranberry sauces on the table.

Pud - Waitrose fig and citrus pudding with vanilla ice cream or extra thick double cream or custard. Or a mince pie with the above.

Massive cheeseboard, with crackers and sliced French bread etc., plus paté, grapes, apples and dates - which will sit out until the evening so people can help themselves if they get peckish.

I don't eat the carby stuff, but I can still manage to select enough from the above to have a proper feast. Can't wait!

Sounds amazing and I love your username btw!

user1471453601 · 22/12/2018 21:14

Sounds lovely. Three adults here, with the virus from hell, seven days and counting.

We will have whatever m&s has left tomorrow, or monday, whenever one of us finds the energy to shop.

Never mind, we have gin, tonic, whisky and wine. We will be fine. Most presents wraped, so all ok

thighofrelief · 22/12/2018 21:40

I hate sprouts but it is The Law so we all have 1 sprout and gag it down. Who made this Law? Obviously I respect it as don't want to go to Christmas Prison.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/12/2018 21:46

Sounds fab except the trifle. Could you have a frozen option of something as well as that? It's a bit awkward sitting around while everyone scoffs their pudding.

ArtyFartyQueen · 23/12/2018 09:16

Sounds lush, especially if I don't have to cook it!

TheGirlWhoLived · 23/12/2018 14:55

LOVE the sound of halloumi, very tasty on Xmas day! Not a summer cheese (but love the thought of keeping a cheese for summer!)
I agree with pp on veg. Would add at least broccoli and peas to your list, would leave off green beans for our family imo

MrsGrindah · 23/12/2018 17:57

Yeah I’m scared of Christmas Prison too. It’s the reason why I have to drink bucket loads of sherry too sadly.....I’m doing fresh fruit salad for anybody who doesn’t want trifle. Although anybody who doesn’t want trifle won’t be invited back next year...

VillanellesHairPin · 23/12/2018 20:06

MrsGrindah · 23/12/2018 20:15

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 23/12/2018 20:17

Sounds great, but no starter needed and pud much much later

userofthiswebsite · 23/12/2018 20:19

Perhaps provide a non-alcoholic dessert option?
