Christmas cocktails - what are you having?

I'm in charge of the Christmas cocktail this year - yay! I'm looking for inspiration. It can't be heavy on the gin as we've had gin based cocktails for the last few years and the family want a change.

I hear rum is the new gin - any ideas? No daiquiris as I had a bad experience with those in my youth and can never face another one again...

Cava
Dash of stones ginger wine
Fresh chilli
Amazing

CakeNinja · 16/12/2018 19:29

I am making pornstar martinis and raspberry/chambord martinis.
Hurry the fuck up christmas, I’m tempted to just make some for ‘testing’ Grin

BadgerWithSprouts · 16/12/2018 19:31

It’s always snowballs at christmas in this house, I dont care how unfashionable we are either Grin

goose1964 · 16/12/2018 19:32

Thirds of after eight vodka, kahlua and Bailey's.

Named a sucker punch by my son as they don't taste very alcoholic but they are

Also bloody Marys, and whatever I have the ingredients for out of my cocktail books

FinallyHere · 16/12/2018 19:38

One part each of fresh lime and tripe sec to one and a half parts of tequila, margarita. My happy place.

Ginpuddles · 16/12/2018 20:18

Twinkles

25ml vodka
15ml elderflower cordial
Champagne
PrivateEggnog · 16/12/2018 20:25

I do a ginger fizz like MsT but without the chilli. Lovely. Also kir royale this year, but with cremant rather than champers so a bit more budget!!

I always wanted to make snowballs but have never actually done them, so this could be the year...They look so nice and festive.

Tiredmummyof3 · 16/12/2018 20:43

Oooo cake ninja what's in a raspberry martini please?! Love cocktails but find them hard work as you need to buy so much alcohol but then only use about!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 16/12/2018 20:44

espresso martinis....can use gin or vodka
white lady...I know that's gin but it's my favourite
sidecar...a white lady with brandy instead of gin
snowball! ...use tonic and a spritz of lime to avoid the ickyyickysticky

i am mostly going to be experimenting with creme de cacao this year....Brandy Alexanders here I come
Also plan to try Chocolate Martinis, Grasshoppers, and a Nimble Monk

ihatehoney · 16/12/2018 20:50

Pink gin
Prosecco
Light lemonade
Raspberries

Delicious!

CakeNinja · 16/12/2018 20:52

Tired, the raspberry martinis...
In advance, empty one bottle of chambord and about half a pouch of the Funkin raspberry purée (I get mine on ocado, never seem to find it in supermarkets when I need it) into a Tupperware and freeze it.
When you’re ready, scoop about 2 spoons into a cocktail shaker and add 2 shots of vanilla vodka with some ice. Shake. Pour into a nice glass and top up with Belvoir raspberry lemonade. Add a garnish if you want, I use some little plastic spike things with some raspberries skewered on but I get a bit lazy about this!
Absolutely scrumptious. Can obviously double or triple up the quantities depending on how much you’re making. Also, as the evening goes on, they just get made in a glass and stirred vigorously with a spoon Grin
Also, the vanilla vodka is used in pornstar martinis which is very handy!

Great thread. In an ideal world I'd be drinking margaritas, however in reality I won't have time to mix them due to chasing 9mo and toddler around so will probably settle for
Cremant/ fruit juice mix, kind of bucks fizz option.

Lazybonita · 16/12/2018 21:09

Bellini. Champagne, peach juice, splash of peach liqueur.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/12/2018 21:11

Sloegasms - glass of fizz with sloegin in the bottom - looks like a Kir Royal - mmmm love em! 🥂

bluebellation · 16/12/2018 21:13

No cocktails, but I've just got the Christmas pudding vodka on the go! It's a Hairy Bikers recipe and I make it every year.

Chewbecca · 16/12/2018 21:16

Always snowballs, it isn't Christmas without them.

This year I am also adding Poinsettia from Nigella's Christmas book which is prosecco/fizz, grand marnier and cranberry juice.

AmIAWeed · 16/12/2018 21:17

If you fancy rum based: We like a spiced rum (Kragon, sailor Jerry) with ginger ale and a lime slice. Don't use cheap ginger ale, must be Schweppes

Mimca · 16/12/2018 22:35

Thank you for the replies. I'm definitely feeling inspired now, and very thirsty. I like the sound of the raspberry martinis - they will look festive too!

I've never had a snowball! Always think there is something better to drink than advocaat, but maybe I'm missing something?!

Always rum for me. Rum punch, orange, lime, rum & Angostura bitters, nice with lemonade too

HollyBollyBooBoo · 17/12/2018 04:36

Mincepie Martini

50ml dark rum
50ml cloudy apple juice
12.5ml Tipplesworth mince pie syrup

Shaken over ice, into a martini glass, cream on top with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Utterly gorgeous!

DearPrudence · 17/12/2018 05:04

I'm doing prosecco with sloe gin in the bottom.
And harvey wallbangers - vodka, Galliano, fresh orange juice, with ice as a nice long drink.

I might also mix some cosmopolitans.

WellTidy · 17/12/2018 15:54

Rum, ginger beer, a good squeeze of lime and ice as a long drink.

Equal parts amaretto, cranberry juice, a good squeeze of lime and ice. Serve in a whiskey glass size glass. It tastes like cherry bakewell and is lethal.

Sloe gin or Cointreau, with prosecco and pomegranate seeds to serve.

Loving the raspberry martinis.

AdaColeman · 17/12/2018 16:10

Crème de Menthe frappé and Brandy Alexander are my favourite Christmas drinks, and Snowballs of course! Now.....have I got enough maraschino cherries?

recklessgran · 17/12/2018 18:21

Strawberry daiquaris and bellinis here. Already bought the fruit purees from Ocado. Resisting opening them yet though.

anniehm · 17/12/2018 18:42

Margaritas here, use Jamie Oliver's recipe which is rather strong!
