Do you get new Christmas jumpers every year?

OP posts:
LuggsaysNotaWomen · 12/11/2018 12:42

God no. Buy them a bit bit big and then reuse them for years, that’s my strategy.

Flooffloof · 12/11/2018 12:45

No, menopausal so no jumpers anyway but I bought a few t-shirts in a sale in asda some years ago, I just rotate them.
No one remembers what anyone wore last year so it's good. And at one wear in 3 years they won't wear out.

NotTired · 12/11/2018 12:46

No. They only get a months wear out of them. I've had mine a good few years now and the snowflakes are so faded you can barely see them against the grey background so I will this year. I buy my DS one a size bigger and fold the arms so it'll last him an extra year.

overmydeadbody · 12/11/2018 12:46

No!

Only for any of the DC who have grown out of theirs and don't have a hand me down.

I have two of my own, a silly one and a sparkly grown up one, both that I have had for years.

BertramKibbler · 12/11/2018 12:47

Nope, I’ve got the one and I’ve been wearing it for the last 5 years

katienana · 12/11/2018 12:49

No, try and get 2 years out of kids ones and also buy them in the sale anyway. I've had mine for 5 years. It doesn't play music anymore which is a shame..

strawberrypenguin · 12/11/2018 12:50

No! I do need a new one this year though as my old one isn't comfy anymore.

MrsMrsMrsMrs · 12/11/2018 12:55

Strategy usually is:

  1. Buy DCs nice Christmas jumpers in Next sale approx 2 years too big.
  2. Wear following Christmas, then
  3. also wear following Christmas...
  4. Return to step 1.
They’re always more than half price in the next sale (about £5) and good quality.
BlueChampagne · 12/11/2018 13:24

I just dress DCs regular jumpers up with tinsel/baubles/battery powered lights.

BarbaraofSevillle · 12/11/2018 13:53

No, why would you? That's insane. Although I wish that I had realised at the beginning that this would become a thing and I would have bought a nicer one, instead of a Matalan cheapy.

For DCs, the 'buy big and make last a couple of years' strategy is good, obviously hand me downs within family/friends but also encourage a Christmas jumper bring and buy stall at the school autumn fair or whatever, so people can get right size replacements for a pound or two instead of buying new.

DoubleLottchen · 12/11/2018 14:56

No, I go for the buy big in the sale strategy.
But my DC actually love Christmas jumpers and happily wear them all year round anyway, so we definitely get our money's worth.

Bowlofbabelfish · 12/11/2018 14:58

No. No one will wear them - housefull of acrylicophobes here.

I do make the kids Christmas PJs every year though, along with the tonttulakki type Xmas hats.

heathers00 · 12/11/2018 16:08

A few years ago were given some christmas t-shirts rather than jumpers and loved them so much we have added one to our collection ever since! They seem to get better and more creative every year. We havent tried any with lights on yet!

Babybearsporij · 13/11/2018 10:28

Not for me or DH, we both have a few each. DC1 needs new ones as she grows. DC2 gets DC1's hand me downs!

goose1964 · 13/11/2018 11:41

I find the jumpers are always scratchy? So I buy t-shirts I have 3 plus a non Christmas one with a cute penguin. I've not caved so far this year

Alfie190 · 13/11/2018 11:57

No maybe every two or three years. This year I decided to go for Christmas dresses instead.

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 13/11/2018 14:46

No ds usually gets 2 years out of his. I’m getting a Christmas blouse and Christmas jumper dress though this year and ds is getting a Harry Potter Christmas jumper.

heathers00 · 16/11/2018 15:31

@goose1964 - The scratchy gets me too!

TansyViolet · 16/11/2018 15:33

I don't wear them but the dc usually wear them at least 2 years

lostlalaloopsy · 16/11/2018 21:05

No! My DH and I have had the same ones for 4 years - our first Christmas jumpers in fact.

I usually have to buy dcs new ones, but I usually try to get them in the Tesco sale the year before!!

Figgygal · 16/11/2018 21:07

No way mine is utterly offensive in just how xmassy it is
It has a hole in the back and I still wear it

megletthesecond · 16/11/2018 21:07

No way.
Charity shops are good for this. A lot of them have the Xmas jumpers out now.

minipie · 16/11/2018 21:10

I have never bought a Christmas jumper. Nope not for the kids either.

Fooferella · 16/11/2018 21:11

When did Christmas jumpers become a thing? None of us have a Christmas jumper. I'd lose it from one year to the next or forget I owned one anyway. Christmas fail number 432 for me.Grin

museumum · 16/11/2018 21:11

No! Get about three years out of ds’s and I’ve only ever had one.
