Hello all, so this year I'm try8ng to get ahead of the game and start my Christmas shopping. I do realise many folks are well underway by now... I have two DCs age 6 and 10 and various others to buy for.

My usual go to online places are
Toysrus - gone
Smyths - people talk of going through the catalogue but I haven't got one despite being previous customer
Argos - if desperate as I can't bare the massive stickers

Where do you like shopping? I'd love to discover new places.

Almost all online.

LOL7 · 16/10/2018 13:58

Amazon! I also love the works.

HalfBloodPrincess · 16/10/2018 14:01

B&M have some good bargains
The works
Amazon
Ebay
Smyths - they’re often cheaper than argos
The entertainer

SymphonyofShadows · 16/10/2018 14:02

Amazon, Nintendo and I haunt the big Christmas bargains threads by Reastie. Got some amazing things via other MNers posts last year.

Bellabutterfly2016 · 16/10/2018 14:10

I buy a lot online, 1 reason being we only have 1 car me and dp share and the thought of going to Argos then trotting down the high street with armfuls of boxes isn't much fun, especially if you have to balance them on your pushchair!!!!!

I buy from
boots
Argos
The works
The entertainer
Smyths
And there's an independent toy shop local I get afew bits from too

I always check price comparison websites, and amazon tho and John Lewis are great at price matching too

I've also had stuff off eBay - people often sell brand new things.

MinnieRabbit · 16/10/2018 14:28

Amazon for almost everything although their delivery seems to go to shit from Black Friday through to Christmas.

Also keep an eye out for stuff like Lego when it's on offer as I'm doing the food shop at whatever supermarket (got some great stuff at Asda few weeks ago).

Aldi have great toys when they have a kids event on.

The Book People online for heavily discounted books - there's 15% off at the minute too!

SixToEightInchesOfSnow · 16/10/2018 15:03

Amazon
Smyths toys (our catalogue has arrived)
The Book People
Apple/ Curry’s
Home Bargains for cheap bits

Buddyelf · 16/10/2018 15:09

I do all mine online. I hate shopping centres around Christmas, too many people. God bless online shopping!

skankingpiglet · 16/10/2018 15:18

I got some great bargains in TK Maxx and on Facebook marketplace. The only full price items I've bought are from Smyths as they're on the 'must have' list and haven't seen them on offer any where.

PersonaNonGarter · 16/10/2018 15:23

Sainsbury - when the toy sale is on
Space NK - all difficult but special women who I give pressies to will get a SpaceNK bag
M&S - chocolates and biscuits from M&S
Amazon - obviously
Waterstones - cards, magazines etc
Boden - socks and pants for DC & DH

Fishandthechips · 16/10/2018 15:56

Early learning centre. They tend to have 3 for 2's or half price offers fairly often so I wait for them.
Also supermarkets when doing the food shop. I keep an eye on the toys so I can buy them when they eventually go on offer.

Parker231 · 16/10/2018 15:59

Everything for Christmas is bought online from cards, wrapping paper , presents, food, drinks. If it can’t be bought online, it doesn’t get bought!

RiverTam · 16/10/2018 16:00

I'm in London and this year a few of us have pondered trying to do lots of shopping in the arcade at Kings Cross St Pancras. Though not for children's presents, actually (if that's what you're asking), though there is a Hamley's there.

Probably the ghastly Amazon, also Waterstones and John Lewis.

iloveredwine · 16/10/2018 16:05

smyths have a huge pile of Christmas catalogues outside our local store if you live near to one?

Bellabutterfly2016 · 16/10/2018 16:11

Talking of supermarkets, particularly sainsburys, does anyone know when the toy sale starts?

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/10/2018 16:14

I work near a big debenhams so probably there and Amazon.

duckling84 · 16/10/2018 16:32

Amazon is where the main bulk come from.

HalfBloodPrincess · 16/10/2018 16:35

@bellabutterfly2016 tomorrow!

Bellabutterfly2016 · 16/10/2018 16:41

@HalfBloodPrincess
Thanks for that

So do you mean midnight tonight then in theory????!!
I know a woman who went at midnight last year she said it was rammed!!!!!!

goose1964 · 16/10/2018 18:13

Mainly Amazon through vouchers earned doing surveys. Boots and superdrug for stocking fillers.

Parker231 · 16/10/2018 21:32

I love not having to go into a single shop and battle the crowds. Christmas food and drinks order is already prepared.

Oddsocksforeveryone · 16/10/2018 21:44

China (aliexpress/ebay)
Japan (eBay/Amazon)
Japancentre
Aldi (Online)
Usborne books (Online)

The kids are getting kawaii boxes I'm making (like subscription boxes) as main presents this year half of the bits have arrived.
I've got 4 kids, the youngest are 2 and almost 1, no way I'm battling Christmas crowds.

tastylancs · 16/10/2018 23:36

Thanks for all this - feeling a bit less overwhelmed and slightly more inspired. I don't live anywhere near a Smyths sadly but might try to request a catalogue online. Nearest Hamleys is Trafford Centre - an hour away - might drag myself there one day soon. Mostly I'm a big fan of online as I'm a rural dweller. Ooooh I'm almost feeling a flutter of festive shopping excitement...

Definitely going to check out The Book People and Usbourne Books online.
