Sorry to be nosey, how much is this costing people for a family of 4? My order is over £300 and I'm wondering if I need to scale down a bit....

Also will food keep until 27 or 28th?

Golly. There are 7 adults and three children in our house over Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I reckon on £100 on meat and cheeses in marksies and maybe another £100 for veg , biscuits and bits .

Has anyone tried the melt in the middle chocolate Christmas pudding? Is it as tasty as it looks?

Report
KatoPotato · 17/10/2018 23:28

We got the pudding last year, it was delicious. You have to melt the white choc and put it on with the holly at the end, but was very tasty!

Going fir the four bird roast this year!

Has anyone tried and can tell me which is the nicest between the Yule Log, the Pinecone’s and the Snowman desserts? Those are the three that I love the look of but cannot justify buying all 3.

I usually find M & S desserts far too sickly sweet but I really like the look of the yule log. Had anyone had it in previous years?

I’ve ordered the beef bone in marrow pie. It’s bloody amazing.

I'm under whelmed by their offerings this year. Selection is def less. Turkey crown and the London glade gammon was good. We had the chocolate tree cone things last year and everyone left them. Too sickly.

Hardly any decent starters this year.

I’m a bit frustrated none of the turkey crowns come with a fruity stuffing. I’m also missing my big, glossy brochure to drool over and let each of the kids choose a pudding from😢

We're doing m&s for the first time this year as have a baby and a toddler and we're not going to have time to make everything. We are 7 adults, 4 meat eaters plus 3 vegetarians, and then my 3 year old. The luxury veg selection says it serves 6 which is a bit awkward with my numbers. If we get that plus the dauphinoise (also serves 6) will that be enough or am I going to need to get extra? We'll be getting the mushroom Wellington and the beef with bone in so there should be plenty of that. We don't tend to have starters/puddings as we eat the roast until we're bursting, so need to make sure there's enough.

I would say you could make the veg stretch to 7 easily. The roast potatoes are in goose fat though - will the veggies eat that?

I have spoken to the manager of my local M&S and he has assured me that they have put things in place to prevent a repeat of last years 90 minute queue fest. So I have ordered a turkey crown, a beef joint, the luxury veg, lots of gravy & the giant tub of profiteroles. I've also got my ocado slot reserved with 2 bottles of bollinger & a cheese platter.

Thanks @leghairdontcare 2 of the veggies will eat the potatoes and the other can have the dauphinoise or we can do a few extra normal potatoes.

@Ashhead24 the mushroom wellington is delicious but not huge!

Report
Ashhead24 · 22/10/2018 07:41

Right. Maybe I'll get two veggie mains. They're all a bit fussy and both the parsnip and nut roast were ruled out. So it might just be 2 Wellington's.

Report
ifiwasabutterfly · 22/10/2018 08:26

@Ashhead24 the parsnip thing is different I am not sure I would choose it again, but generally the but roasts are good too although I think it may be a different one this year.

The only problem with the wellington - although admittedly I was cutting it into four, is that the two ends have more pastry and being the kind host I actually ended up with just pastry by cutting myself the smallest slither the first time as I had thought it would be bigger.

ifiwasabutterfly · 22/10/2018 08:27

Why can we not edit nut roasts

Report
Ashhead24 · 22/10/2018 10:11

@ifiwasabutterfly I see what you mean, it is a bit lopsided in the picture, strange thing to do with something that's meant to be cut into 4. Am a little disappointed by the lack of vegetarian roast potatoes/gravy/stuffing but I guess there just isn't the market for it.

Have spoken to DMum and we're going with the Wellington and the ricotta stacks.
