Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link and the and then last word and the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me k ow if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

Lottie dolls- just discovered them (Think they were mentioned here). Are they the same size as Barbies? Are they ever on offer?

WhirlwindHugs · 01/10/2018 22:39

Lottie dolls are smaller than barbies (but not as small as Chelsea, is it? The kid barbies) they've usually got quite decent play value - occasionally price drops on amazon but not by loads!

They're great!

Methenyouplus4 · 01/10/2018 22:56

They look lovely but didn't seem to have any sort of 'stuff' e.g. car. There was a tree house /horse I could spot but seemed £££, even compared to Barbie which I think is expensive.

dizzygirl1 · 01/10/2018 23:10

Thank you for the harry Potter lego tip off! Just ordered! Now could do with some Minecraft lego on offer and some. Beats headphones at a ridiculously low price 🤣😉

Methenyouplus4 · 01/10/2018 23:13

Beats (big ones, not wireless) were in Argos last year for £100. Got eldest a lovely maroon pair which have lasted well and came in nice carry case.

MrsLem · 01/10/2018 23:18

Lottie dolls are Irish and you can usually buy the accessories in department stores (not helpful if you're not in Ireland I know). They usually have a more real life context than Barbie, better job prospects for the girls etc. They also have Finn dolls which are great but hard to come by!

Hi can anyone give me recommendations of toys/things to play with for a 9 year old. It's her birthday Saturday she doesn't what anything. Said she would like a toy to play with. But she never plays with toys. Grown out of dolls and babies. Has no interest in lol or the little hatchimal things. Slime is banned from the house.

Really struggling, thanks.

rosablue · 01/10/2018 23:53

@ShesABelter How about an Origami set for your dd? While it's not a toy per se it's fun to do.

other craft sets?

or is there an online game or a comic or book series or film or character etc that she likes that you could get something from? DS2 adores the beano comic and when he was 9 I managed to track down a Denis the Menace soft toy on ebay which he still adores - so something along those lines?

Exploding Kittens is a game that lots of people recommend from that age upwards.

DS2 has also had lots of fun with Rush Hour and IQ Puzzle Pro and other similar Smart Games

Or something like a rubik's cube (especially the ones that are a different shape or are a different size from 3x3x3 - there are loads of different ones on Amazon and ebay) or some sort of fidget toy - again ds2 got a fidget cube that's a little character that's cute, and doesn't need playing with but gets played with quite a bit because it's good to just fidget with it!

BlueOooChristmas · 02/10/2018 05:39

Cursing myself. Had LOL Under Wraps in my basket for 3 for 2 yesterday tea time and didn't realise how quickly they were likely to go out of stock. Does anyone know what time Argos stock updates or can it be any time?

BlueOooChristmas · 02/10/2018 05:40

Also for those with exploding kittens, would it be suitable for a 6 year old? We've been looking for a fun game but she can be quite sensitive lol.

dizzygirl1 · 02/10/2018 06:39

Thanks @methenyouplus4 I will have a look. I'm not sure whether to get wired or wireless... DD is almost 12....

Serendipitystardust · 02/10/2018 06:40

Blue0oo - my 5 year old manages exploding kittens without difficulty (although actually holding the cards is a different matter). It literally takes 5 minutes to master and suits his limited concentration span. Definitely a fun game.

WhirlwindHugs · 02/10/2018 06:47

We like exploding kittens.

Our 4yo needs help - being able to read is helpful but not 100% necessary as most of the cards can be picked out and played by the pictures but some have writing about the action they do.

Thank you for the 7yo suggestions!

duckling84 · 02/10/2018 06:49

blue I've not got exploding kittens but we do have sushi go which is a card game and u reckon at 6 you can pick up the rules. Another one is fluxx

WhirlwindHugs · 02/10/2018 06:50

Card examples - they're silly, not scary imo!

I've bought EK for my 5.6yo DD for Christmas. Maybe 4.5yo DS will be able to join in!

1122christy · 02/10/2018 07:08

@ninjaturtlesmum the poopsie slime surprise is deffo a thing on its own, a poop figure, slime making stuff and a cute container to keep in. I only know cause I've had to watch a billion YouTube videos of it lol I picked up 3, one for my 2 dd and one for niece.

I was thinking of getting the exploding kittens game for my 10yr ds will be 11 in Feb, is it too young for him? Is there any other type of game like that I could get him, we have a good majority of "normal" board games, dobble, uno etc thanks

Raindancer411 · 02/10/2018 07:10

If you want an educational but fun game, my friend brought this for her 6 year old son. He is now obsessed with learning the time...

Moana123 · 02/10/2018 07:20

I am horrendously late to the Smyths £10 off a £50 spend offer - anyone know if it will run again before Christmas? Thanks

WhirlwindHugs · 02/10/2018 07:46

10 year old would still like EK imo, lots of adults like it.

WhirlwindHugs · 02/10/2018 07:47

More challenging games for older kids - carcassonne, ticket to ride, last word, code names, bananagrams...

Tiggles · 02/10/2018 08:31

I picked up Pass the Pigs on a whim when I saw it for a couple of pounds somewhere once. It has been a really big hit with my 11 and 10 year olds.

ninjaturtlesmum · 02/10/2018 09:07

@1122christy fab, thanks. We watched the you tube videos this morning, she’s very excited about getting one!

itsonlysubterfuge · 02/10/2018 09:15

They have lots of Half Price toys at my Tesco. My DD got a Playmobil Ice Cream Van.

Has anyone been into M&S this weekend? I'm wondering what the half price biscuit deal is this week that's normally piled on the tills
