Think the title says it all really. What has been the biggest success of a gift that you've given to a just below teen boy. Looking for inspiration and perhaps some more unusual "big hits" because I can't handle another lego set in this house 😁

Oh he would LOVE an air hockey table! I'm off to ebay 😄

I'm stuck too. He's not allowed an xbox etc and his behaviour was so bad ages playing his tablet that's it's almost permanent confiscated.
I'm almost hoping he wants some decent trainers.

megletthesecond · 05/09/2018 17:44

after playing his tablet.

TSSDNCOP · 05/09/2018 17:49

Can you get a toy Land Rover to wrap up with the voucher?

grasspigeons · 05/09/2018 17:53

we have a garden (now) and a badminton set went down really well.
Also carpet bowls has been surprising fun
pass the pig
magic set
experiences like go ape
he also enjoys a WHSmith voucher combined with shopping trip

TheWoollybacksWife · 05/09/2018 20:53

Dunelm have a table top air hockey set if space is limited. DS is collecting Build Your Own Lightsaber kits and I'm also looking at a goalkeeper kit.

BrieAndChilli · 05/09/2018 21:00

My nearly 12 year old isn’t and never has been a toy person so not sure how useful I can be!

Hits for him have been
Map books!
Kano build your own coding computer
Proper chemistry set

bookmum08 · 05/09/2018 21:05

If he likes Lego how about something like Meccano or Airfix? (yes you can still buy both!)

AshenFaced · 06/09/2018 08:09

Air hockey's a good shout.

Mine has autism and has never really asked for anything big. My big ideas for this year are an "own a pony" day (he doesn't ride) and he needs a lot of equipment for his sport, which he'll be thrilled to get. I'm looking forward to giving him something I know he'll like!

My daughter likes her LED bedside lamp that changes to different colours.

smurfandturf · 06/09/2018 08:14

Ds was 12 last Xmas (13 in March) and the biggest hit was a mini fridge for his bedroom for his drinks and snacks.

mummyof2boys30 · 06/09/2018 19:01

My DC really liked a Plasma Ball and their Lava Lamps. My DS loved his own set of goals too.

BoBro · 06/09/2018 22:13

Ds loves his Amazon Dot.

He also likes my Fitbit and has asked for one, so I'm considering getting one for him for Christmas,

thaegumathteth · 07/09/2018 00:03

Fs has just done a going driver experience and loved it. I didn’t think they could drive anything ‘fancy’ until they were much older though?

Ds turns 12 at Christmas.

Last year successes that weren’t technology based were :

Goals
History books
Lego rape
Lego baseplates that are stackable
Football cones
Training ladder

MrsRyanGosling15 · 07/09/2018 00:17

Pool table that turns into air hockey
Dart board
That stupid Alexa women
Stunt scooter
Good football's
Beats
Books
Board games- game of life, the chase, tv game, kids trivial pursuit.
Randomly roller skates
Drone. (Lasted 2 days, stuck on a roof)
Signed and framed football shirt
Indoor skydiving voucher
Flight simulator day
These are a mixture of last year and this year. It's a tough age.

Strawberrymelon · 07/09/2018 09:30

My ds will be 10 soon. There are so many great suggestions on here. He loves animation so I am off to look at stickbots.

Shiner · 07/09/2018 18:13

My 11 year old LOVED his Laser-X. It has no lasers, it’s based on infra red signals, but it was a huge hit. I enjoyed playing it with him too, which is a bonus!
Game of Risk. Of course he has to win, but it’s exciting and I like that we play together.
Werewolf. It has an (free) app which you need, but huge hit, and we played it a lot on holiday.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/09/2018 18:30

thegumathteth - wtf is “Lego rape”?!

I can’t even think of what it might be a typo for! Grin

Lego Death Star best pressie ever in this house. Until we got the Lego Millennium Falcon... 😬

BrieAndChilli · 07/09/2018 20:51

Lego Tape???

Neolara · 07/09/2018 21:03

My 11yo has said he wants a blender and a self standing electric whisk for Xmas. Odd, I know.....

thaegumathteth · 07/09/2018 23:49

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross not a typo it’s like adhesive tape you can stick to windows etc which has Lego attachments on it. I can’t remember the brand name - it’s not Lego that make it but Argos etc sell it

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 08/09/2018 07:34

Seriously? It’s really called Lego RAPE?

WTF? Confused

StealthPolarBear · 08/09/2018 07:42

Lurking

BirdyBedtime · 08/09/2018 07:42

It's called MAKKA tape - we got some for DS last year and It's good fun
