Stocking presents for teenage boys 18 & 16

SentToTheSynByn · 02/09/2018 13:05

Each year I find it increasingly difficult to find presents for the stockings. However they love them, and I love giving them so the search continues.

Successes in the past have been toiletries, tshirt, stationery, bike gadgets, key rings, books, gloves, pizza wheel, hot sauce. Always include a pair of Christmas socks and chocolate coins.

So far on the list this year is a scratch card.

Would anyone like to add to the list please?

I have DS18 and DS15 so I know how you feel ! I do mostly the same as you - I put in a Costa gift card last year that went down well.

It's hard as they get older isn't it ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2018 13:19

Teenage boys are the worst to buy presents for !

My DS will be 19 in December so double present buying.

Do you use the stockings for small but fairly high price presents? My teenagers don't really do the Presents Under the Tree now .
I have really lovely tapestry light up stockings for them.
I wrap the stocking gifts nicely too.

DS like money (he saves everything) so he gets a £50 note rolled up and tied with ribbon , in a gift box (tied up in ribbon Xmas Grin )
And a £50 Games voucher (I like something tangible to wrap )

His stocking gifts last year:
wallet
keyring
nice underwear (branded)- the Christmas novelty underwear is in the Dec 1st Hamper to get more wear .
bath smells
tube of sweets (like JellyTots)
Maybe a bottle of beer or a minitaure
Chargers and earphones (he breaks/loses them)

This year he'll get bits for his guitar
Gift voucher for clothes
Werthers original (I'll look for a snazzy Christmas pack)
Lindt chocolate coins
Phone case

DS has a Provisional but no intention of starting driving yet

DS likes fancy boxers- TK Max often have Designer ones at good prices.
He’s into the gym, so I go to Costco and buy him a multipack of protein bars . Also likes a new water bottle, micro gym towel, cards for Costa or Nandos, new iPhone charger ( extra long length)

SentToTheSynByn · 02/09/2018 13:23

I still do presents under the tree, so stockings tend to be cheaper items. We are often away for Christmas so I take the stockings and they get their big presents when we get home.

They do like stuff, although sure they wouldn't say no to some cash Grin

Ooo, didn't know you could get cards for Nando's, that might work. It's a shame subway don't do gift cards as they love them.

I always put hot chocolate powder, a big bag of mini marshmallows and a can of squirty cream in the dses’ stockings - you have to keep the cream in the fridge and bung it in the stockings at the last minute, but I hide them in the salad drawer (they’re totally safe in there - lol).

Last year I found Below The Belt toiletries - basically special deodorant spray for their balls - and out those in for a laugh.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/09/2018 13:46

Sorry OP, just a blatant place mark from me.

SentToTheSynByn · 02/09/2018 17:03

Cinema voucher in each so they can go together?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 02/09/2018 19:20

If you've got guitarists, you can get plectrums personalised with photos. I bought some from eBay last week for DD's birthday with our dog on them. Think they were £10 for three. She was very chuffed.

Seaelf · 02/09/2018 19:20

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KEYRING-MONEY-STORAGE-TUBE-EMERGENCY-USE-STORES-NOTES-IN-A-SCREW-TIGHT-TUBE-/400857973862 . These keyrings have been a success with several teens.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/09/2018 19:26

Things that have gone down well include aftershave, nice snacks, make your own Christmas decorations, little games that can be played at dinner ie quizzes, Costa gift cards, wallet, belt and nicer socks and pants than normal.

BangingOn · 02/09/2018 20:06

Hits with DSS have been:

  • Stay Cool Ice Towel
  • Phone charging cables (light up, extra long etc)
  • Novelty USB sticks
  • Decent ice scraper for his windscreen
  • Miniature fragrances for his gym bag
  • Water bottle
  • American or Japanese sweets, ideally with silly names
  • Big jar of Nutella
  • Pringles
  • Phone rescue kit (for drying out phones dropped in water)
  • Phizz hangover tablets
SimplyPut · 02/09/2018 20:34

Last year DS (then 16) had...
Individual fried egg pan (TK Maxx)
Deodorant
Shower gel
New wooden toothbrush
3 pairs of boxers
3pairs of socks
£10 cinema voucher
Chocolate
Power bank for iPhone
Pin badges

Each stocking always contains 10 items.

dontknowwhattodo80 · 02/09/2018 21:45

DS1 will be 15 this year so I'm place marking to get ideas!!

Likely items will be American sweets/fizzy drink, Nando's voucher / milkshake parlour voucher

Last year I did him a hot chocolate themed stocking- call of duty mug, fancy hot choc powder, marshmallows etc

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2018 21:52

Oh I could get DS a plectrum with MY photo on it ....... he'd love that Xmas Grin

I always get DD a personalised Nutella jar (most years you buy the jar, go online , put the code in - its on the lid- choose the name and they send you the label )
Last year they did them in Debenhams , you bought the jar there and they printed the label.

There were tiny jars at one of the Donought stands (about £1)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/09/2018 21:53

If your teens like Lynx there's an advent in Superdrug .

DelphiniumBlue · 02/09/2018 22:06

I do like the keyring money storage thingy!
I feel as if I have exhausted all ideas now - 3 sons, only youngest still in his teens.
In the past, fidget toys have been well received, the sort of thing they can fiddle with while watching TV. Also nice pens ( Uniball instead of biros) sweets, big tubes of Rolos/Maltesers/whatever. A years supply of socks and pants, a couple of plain tshirts rolled up, toiletries ( an upgrade of what they'd use normally). Usually a book or 2, sometimes a comic like Viz or Playstation magazine. Almost all the gadgets I've bought over the years have remained unused, but sometimes decent leather notebooks/artists pencils or charcoals have worked for the more arty of them.
One likes baking so I might get something related to that, and one likes herbal teas so maybe a posher version might be an idea.
They all seemed to like mini lego/meccano sets just for old times sake, and you can get some nice playing cards - I think I got a sci-fi set from Notonthehighstreet last year.
I also download and print off things like Harry Potter crosswords or Pokemon quizzes from Pinterest -very childish but it amuses them briefly and costs nothing- we found a sorting hat chatterbox one year.
