Hate Christmas largely because of people who think it starts in August

Yeah, me too. And the type of people who call you "scrooge" or "grinch" because you're not squealing like a toddler or discussing tinsel choice in the middle of summer.

I hate it. Really hate it. Would happily cancel the whole thing except the rest of the family aren't up for that. My ideal life would be living April to June on repeat, permanently. Lovely light evenings and not a whiff of Christmas shite.

ForalltheSaints · 19/08/2018 09:04

Autumn is often a beautiful season. September offers the opportunity to visit places where it is a little quieter than August.

Do not miss out if you can on all those opportunities by having your mind and preparations fast forwarded to Christmas.

(Or I have sometimes perhaps irreverently said- Mary has only just got over her morning sickness, too early to be thinking about the birth!)

Peachydream · 19/08/2018 09:04

It's August, the C word cannot be mentioned in this house until December 1st.

im not a bah humbug but If I had my way it would be a bi-annual event. ducks and backs away slowly

PolkerrisBeach · 19/08/2018 09:07

Peachy - every 5 years seems about right. Or 4 maybe, like the Olympics.

MumInTheCity · 19/08/2018 09:12

I usually love Christmas but last year we spent Christmas Day in hospital watching my dad slowly lose his battle with cancer. He died the next day. Christmas will never be the same again and I am dreading it this year especially Sad

elQuintoConyo · 19/08/2018 09:22

I'm a huge Christmas fan and can think about it all the livelong day! But i don't talk about it, or plan for it. I save money every month then shop in November. We have cut RIGHT back on the spending and it is now all about traditions and boardgames and so much giggling!

Plus here in Spain they celebrate right up to 6th, Christmas isn't just about 25th and then trees are down by 10am on the 27th (not many locals have trees up at all). Being the season is so long, we don't get excited until the week dc break up for school, otherwise it's just overload.

....and here i am writing about WinterShoppingExtravaganzaFest in flipping August!

elQuintoConyo · 19/08/2018 09:23

MumInTheCity that's truly shit Flowers

Lydiaatthebarre · 19/08/2018 10:06

People trying to fast forward us from summer straight to Christmas are bloody annoying. I actually really like Autumn and that feeling of life returning to normal. I also love November as a peaceful month with a bit of winter magic about it. But nowadays you have people banging on about Christmas before the schools are even back and putting up their trees the minute Halloween is over. Angry

Lydiaatthebarre · 19/08/2018 10:08

Sorry to hear that muminthecity.

lovelovelovepancakes · 19/08/2018 10:15

I love Christmas too op!!
My friends & I have already started talking about it.
Christmas dinner menus are already being posted at the many restaurants we have here and bookings already taken for Christmas do's!
Very excited already and I started my Christmas shopping last month!

ilovesooty · 19/08/2018 10:52

April to June on repeat

That would be wonderful.

@MNHQ please move this to the Christmas topic.

Lydiaatthebarre · 19/08/2018 10:54

Who has been a nasty bastard villagefete?

LilyMumsnet · 19/08/2018 10:56

We're just moving this over to the Christmas topic! [santa]

Here hands over hot chocolate and Christmas crafts

Welcome to the safe Christmas space

SoyDora · 19/08/2018 11:31

I love Christmas. But before Christmas I love late summer evenings, autumn creeping in, my birthday (October), our annual October holiday, bonfire night, DD’s birthday (November)... so I’ll get excited for Christmas after all those things!
Baby number 3 is due at Christmas this year so it might be a low key one!

Fstar · 19/08/2018 12:10

Why cant people just scroll past the thread rather than be nasty.

As soon as it hits August i start thinking about christmas and get excited to see the stock changing in stores. For those saying its too early it isnt, from January i look forward to my summer holiday, buy bits for it and get excited. Then when its over by August i look forward to Christmas, not just the actual day, the trips out, shopping, puttiing up the tree etc.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/08/2018 12:18

I’m not being nasty I just struggle to understand the mind-set.

Ifailed · 19/08/2018 17:12

Why cant people just scroll past the thread rather than be nasty.

because it was originally in AIBU, and the majority response was yes.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/08/2018 17:16

"I just struggle to understand the mind-set."

So do I. It's August FGS. The children aren't even back at school yet (in England and Wales anyway)

AmazingGrace16 · 19/08/2018 17:19

Oh ignore the grinches. We are excited about Christmas here too :) there's a thread for getting organised somewhere :)

LoniceraJaponica · 19/08/2018 17:23

Not everyone is being a grinch. A lot of people who love Christmas enjoy it at Christmas, just not in August.
