I hear you! By September I'm in full Christmas mode and won't apologise for it. Come over to the Christmas pages on here where you can talk about Christmas until your hearts content.

wanderings · 19/08/2018 07:06

MNHQ, can you move this thread please, to where it belongs? Ho ho ho. It's bad enough having to rehearse the Xmas stuff in my church choir in August, as is our custom. (Shoot me because I do post on the Christmas threads, as long as they're in the right place!)

bsbabas · 19/08/2018 07:40

My gran died last year at Christmas so I'll probably be grieving but I'll try and be happy I love the cold weather and taste the difference sainsburys bucksfizz and I have blankets and socks from Norway stashed away. Just gotta decide on a beauty calendar might splurge and get a nail polish and a toiletries one:) Pinterest always makes Christmas look magical

MaryShelley1818 · 19/08/2018 07:53

Oh I love Christmas too...this year will be extra special as we’ve got our Wedding and DS’ 1st Birthday in December too. Very big month with lots to look forward to.

MaverickSnoopy · 19/08/2018 07:58

The Christmas board is probably where your people are.

I always start thinking about it at this time of year - it's only 4 months away and I need that time to spread the cost. This year we'll have a newborn (due October but always late) and having had a newborn in November before I know how stressful it is to not have gifts purchased and wrapped.

I HATE the over commercialised Christmas hype and resent anyone saying that those people excited now buy into it. I enjoy the traditional aspects and don't buy lots of tat. It's about making memories and celebrating a special day.

MissusGeneHunt · 19/08/2018 08:03

Bring on the mulled wine.... But in December, please...

Bellabutterfly2016 · 19/08/2018 08:06

Sorry I'm with OP!!! 🎄
I absolutely love Christmas and can't wait!!!!!!
Who cares if it's August??????

It's a lovely time of the year to plan and look forward too - I bought my good housekeeping Xmas mag this week - yay!!!!!!

To be excited about christmas?!?!?
escapetothecuntree · 19/08/2018 08:10

Wow, posters calling OP a cunt for bringing up Christmas

I am very excited OP. My DS would've been 1 the previous month so it'll be really special.

I already picked him up some tradition red and navy tartan pj's yesterday in Primark Thought they'd be good for his Christmas Eve Box!

I'm already present planning. We're doing DS's room up at the moment and I'm currently sorting through his 1000 of clothes, all brand new with tags for different sizes. It's taking a while. But once the room is done, I think I will be even more focused on Christmas.

Before that there's Halloween, Bonfire Night... I can't wait. Love it all.

Below is a picture of how I'd like to look as a hostess with the mostest Grin

Bella Where did you get the mag from? I want it! Not seen that addition in my local Asda

Also, which colour did you buy in your carpet? It seems perfect. I have a lighter cream and it's just a bit too light really, looks unkept incredibly easily despite me hoovering every day

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 19/08/2018 08:15

I just cannot understand people getting so over-excited about ONE day in the year. Enjoy every day for what it is. Christmas will come soon enough.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/08/2018 08:33

Neithercan I MilkTray

I have a very small, very scattered family and an 18 year old daughter. Christmas in our house is a very low key affair with very little to get excited about. The last few years Christmas has been dominated by revising for mocks, and this year DD is taking a year out before universty. I would love to go away at Christmas this year.

Pinkprincess1978 · 19/08/2018 08:35

Usually I'm getting quite excited by this time and started planning etc however I think partly because we have had such a good summer I'm still in summer mode and not really thinking too much about Christmas yet.

HRTpatch · 19/08/2018 08:35

Those who hype up Xmas must lead very dull lives if it is the highlight of their year.
And you are allowed to have prosecco at 9am on any day if you are an adult

PolkerrisBeach · 19/08/2018 08:36

There is a Christmas topic. Please use it. Take your squealing and OMGs and rest of the shite over there and let the rest of us enjoy AUGUST.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/08/2018 08:37

I am with posters who say that spreading Christmas over several months just removes any specialness about it. Quite often, by the time Christmas Day comes around I am bored with the whole thing.

It was more fun and more special when DD was little because there was the magical build up with Santa visits, Christmas fairs, nativity plays, carol services etc, but that phase of life has ended now.

Also, most of the Christmas songs endlessly played on the radio were released in the 1970s when I was a teenager over 40 years ago. By now I am sick and tired of hearing them.

I don’t want to be nasty but...

Do you not get up to much at other times?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 19/08/2018 08:48

LoniceraJaponica - we think alike! Also agree about the Christmas songs - my heart sinks the first time I hear Slade, John Lennon and Wizzard!!!

fieryginger · 19/08/2018 08:49

Christmas is a long hard slog, I think but, if it makes you excited and are looking forward to it, good for you. Nothing wrong with something that makes you happy 😊

FinallyHere · 19/08/2018 08:50

Spoiler alert: you are an adult, you can have prosecco anytime you choose to have it. HTH.

PolkerrisBeach · 19/08/2018 08:54

On the shitty Christmas songs - Radio 4 is your friend. Or podcasts.

SabineUndine · 19/08/2018 08:54

Hate Christmas largely because of people who think it starts in August. I stopped celebrating it years ago and either go abroad or spend the day in bed.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/08/2018 08:55

Or playlists already on my phone.

Ifailed · 19/08/2018 08:56

Only in Advert World. In Real Life, people overspend, levels of Domestic Violence rise & many people feel obliged to visit people they secretly hate.

There's a whole Topic on MM reserved for the deluded (that most sensible people have hidden), please feel free to join in.

longway · 19/08/2018 09:00

I love Christmas but only the build up as Christmas Day can boring. This year we’re going to New York for 5 days in December and I’m so excited for it! We’ve also moved house this year so I’m even more excited to decorate considering it’s such a larger house than my previous one. But I don’t want to rush to Christmas just yet, I love September, October and November!
