How did M&S or other supermarket Christmas food go down?

M&S Christmas for us, some disappointing items this year.

Turkey (full deboned turkey £65) was very nice, but the normal M&S deboned crown I usually get for £32 which was sold out is just as nice.

Chestnut stuffing and pigs n blankets wreath - pigs n blankets nice with maple glaze. Stuffing bland.

Luxury pigs n blankets - ok, nothing special

Standard Sausage meat pack which we rolled into balls - nice and tasty

Profiteroles - soggy and tasteless

Raspberry & processco panacotta- not nice at all. Too boozey and rubbery tasting

Will probably orders early next year to get the cheaper turkey crown and still get the sausage meat, but off M&S trimmings and desserts from now on.

Our Morrison’s prepared veg, fish starters and creme brûlée tart were all spot on.

holidayparkquestion · 25/12/2017 22:18

We had some bits from Iceland that were surprisingly nice. Pigs in blankets were lovely

ScreamingValentaMySantaExpress · 25/12/2017 22:21

No pre-made savouries but we had a Christmas pud from Lidl that was lovely!

RumAppleGinger · 25/12/2017 22:21

Everything from Asda went down really well. Turkey crown with stuffing, pigs in blankets, honey glazed carrots and parsnips, roasties, sprouts and gravy. Cost a lot less then previous years I have opted for M&S and it all tasted great.

BikeRunSki · 25/12/2017 22:23

DM splashed out and got everything prepared from a home cooking company “Cook”. Very nice, and Morrison’s Finest Stilton is going down very well too.

LockedOutOfMN · 25/12/2017 22:25

We bought pigs in blankets from Tesco and no one would eat them except DM.

All our veg were from Tesco and delicious.

Turkey from the butcher, gravy from Bisto, stuffing from Paxo, potatoes by Aunt Bessie for fusspot DB and by me for everyone else who likes potatoes, pudding by Fortnum & Mason.

Chocolates by M and S, very yummy.

AdoraBell · 25/12/2017 22:26

Sainsbo’s food was good, although I bought turkey from the butcher and veg from the greengrocer. Those were delicious.

Toomanycats99 · 25/12/2017 22:27

Salted arame cheesecake from Lidl went down very well. M&S mushroom pastry thing also very nice.

Saladd0dger · 25/12/2017 22:28

We got a co-op fresh crown instead of frozen from Iceland. It was lovely I can’t wait for my turkey tikka tomorrow.
We also got a Tesco Xmas pudding and Tesco finest Yule log. Will definitely be buying those next year.
Only thing I haven’t been impressed with was the little round cranberry cheese. Was a sub for something else. Won’t be getting it again

Ohyesiam · 25/12/2017 22:32

We had a profiter( spelling?) roll desert with chocolate mousse stuff.
It was bloody orgasmic.
All in a table presentable bowl.

Whitecovers · 25/12/2017 22:34

Had an M&S dinner today, won't be getting the veg pack again. The roasts were awful, the rest ok. Fillet beef and bacon wrapped turkey breast was lovely though.

Kintan · 25/12/2017 22:35

We had the beef rib joint from m&s which was delicious. Due to past experience we got the sides and pudding from Cook and Waitrose rather than M&S.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/12/2017 22:35

Fresh veg chunky roasted parsnips, carrots in honey, goose fat roast potatoes made up for the disappointing stuffing and desserts. Nice tart homemade cranberry sauce. And mums trifle (with jelly 😮) was outstanding.

We had Christmas dinner from Cook - gorgeous. Will be having the same next year as family and guests commented on how much they enjoyed it.

juneybean · 25/12/2017 22:37

Iceland

Salmon cheesecake to start... Okay but wouldn't try again

Turkey and ham Wellington pretty nice but ham had a bit of fat on it

Sprouts in gorgonzola which were lush.

Honey parsnips were lovely.

Trimmings selection was good too!

WeAllHaveWings · 25/12/2017 22:37

Ohyesiam we had the same profiteroles dessert with choc mouse and found it soggy and the choc mouse more like a chocolate cream.

Everything was lovely —because I cooked it— but the M&S melting chocolate cake was awful, laughable, real hit and miss

Katescurios · 25/12/2017 22:39

Asda ES parsnips and carrots in maple, honey and mustard glaze we're lovely, dauphonoise potatoes were OK but not amazing, pork sage n onion stuffing was nice. We had a Asda ES Cornfed chicken instead of turkey and it was delicious, juicy and very tasty.

skinnyamericano · 25/12/2017 22:43

The gravy was fairly crap - too salty and peppery, but otherwise bland. It took a big part of the stress awa though.

Chocolate caramel gateau thing was delicious. Raspberry tart was fine.

VinoEsmeralda · 25/12/2017 22:43

We did a lazy Christmas and would eat Aunt Bessies yorkshires& roast potatoes again but not the veg. Sainsbury's cauliflower cheese was lovely. Lidls pigs in blankets nicer then Sainsburys. Waitrose sirloin beef amazing.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 25/12/2017 22:52

We haven't managed our Christmas dinner yet, having it tomorrowBlush but the Iceland picky bits were very good.

We had the breadcrumbed cheese bits which were lovely, duck spring rolls which were lovely and cost £1 and prawns in tempura batter. All really lovely and very reasonable.

Our bottle of English sparkling wine cost £20 but is a lovely once a year treat. Ridgeview or something like that, produced in Ditchling, a posh bit of the South Downs, not too far from us In a less posh bit

Princesspinkgirl · 25/12/2017 23:00

Tesco stuffing in bacon frozen very nice

Tesco pigs in blankets lovely frozen cost £2

helensburgh · 25/12/2017 23:00

Best turkey ever. V moist. Bernard Matthews crown £4 from farm foods!
Had m amd s 2 years ago and this beats it hands down

noblegiraffe · 25/12/2017 23:15

M&S chocolate pine cones were bloody lovely.

Dolceandgabbana14 · 25/12/2017 23:16

Ex M&S shopper here, had an Aldi Christmas and it was fabulous! Jewelled gammon joint was amazing, 1.5kg cost £10, definitely buying that again. Stuffing balls wrapped in bacon were also lovely. Added bonus was there were no queues when I went on Saturday morning. Winner, winner, Christmas dinner!
