What are you having to eat on Christmas Eve?

I’ll have 5 on Xmas eve and 12 Xmas day so I don’t want to go overboard on Xmas eve. We are going to a carol service and I was thinking a chilli or bolognese once we get back. Would you be happy with that or is it not special enough?

No idea. We don't bother with anything special on Xmas eve. Don't see the point or need to

LePetitPont · 21/12/2017 18:11

Another vote for lasagne, garlic bread and salad after the christingle service! My mum is bringing a chocolate cake and we may have some mince pies with slow gin cream. Good old Aldi!

MaMisled · 21/12/2017 18:27

Lasagne, homemade chips, salad and garlic bread here.

Overthehillsandfaraway8 · 21/12/2017 18:34

Going out to eat.

Sarahh2014 · 21/12/2017 18:43

Cold lunch then a Chinese takeaway for dinner

DozyDoates · 21/12/2017 18:43

Always a Chinese (in a box) and probably crack open some of the "Christmas" booze Xmas Grin

Sarahh2014 · 21/12/2017 18:45

Peachypie Gammon joint .5 hours in slow cooker on medium

wonkylegs · 21/12/2017 18:48

We're having Spag Bol - it's easy to do for lots of people and won't take much time or effort AND both my kids love it
We're having homemade sherry trifle / brownies for pudding, we don't usually have pudding it's special

stoneagemum · 21/12/2017 18:53

Slow cooked ham and cauliflower cheese, it's become a tradition, as then we have the rest of the ham for the picky bits from Xmas night onwards

nightshade · 21/12/2017 18:53

My family will be advised to starve until Xmas day....or find themselves whatever is in the fridge..Halo

notapizzaeater · 21/12/2017 19:07

Hot pork butties, then cold pork next day with the turkey

ASauvignonADay · 21/12/2017 19:11

Going out for dinner

BlackPeppercorn · 21/12/2017 19:15

We have a table booked for 1pm at our favourite Indian, hey have already told us they are chucking out at 3, so we'll brave the seafront for a bracing walk.
It'll be a 10pm nibble for those who require it, but I don't expect many takers.

FoofFighter · 21/12/2017 19:17

Takeaway most likely. I don't really know though as we are away.

crazycatgal · 21/12/2017 19:19

We're going out to an Indian on Xmas eve, but if I was staying in then I'd like a picky tea.

longtompot · 21/12/2017 19:22

We are having ramen with belly pork strips I'll slow cook the day before Smile

namechangedcantthinkofnewone · 21/12/2017 19:23

Takeaway 🙈🙈

MrsHathaway · 21/12/2017 19:23

We used to have frozen pizza or chippy chips. Then we instituted the tradition of going to the pub for tea.

I don't think Christmas Eve needs to be special special so long as the chocolates and biscuits are open. Christmas Eve feasts are more of a continental thing.

Playmobilpeacock · 21/12/2017 19:26

DH's family are German so we always have a seafood buffet and champagne. We are having smoked trout, eel and smoked crevettes with lemon mayonnaise.

Some of the adults exchange presents on Christmas Eve too so it's more of a celebration than I've previously been used to.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 21/12/2017 19:30

A traditional Norwegian Christmas dinner of pork belly and sauerkraut!
SIL is Norwegian so we celebrate on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

PumpkinPie2016 · 21/12/2017 19:49

We are having chicken wraps and salad. Don't want anything too heavy before Christmas day and don't want to be doing a lot of cooking in Christmas eve either.

I like some normality in terms of meals around Christmas day or it feels like you live on buffets and snacks - if course that's ok if you like it but we are not massively keen.

stoplickingthetelly · 21/12/2017 20:17

Always have Chinese takeaway on Christmas Eve.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 21/12/2017 20:22

We have a mahoosive Aldi cured ham, complete with display stand, and lots of antipasti. Think it will be quite funny when we wheel it out.

GoJetterGirl · 22/12/2017 12:46

I'm doing a Beef stew with Calcannon, and plain mash for the fussy toddler in laws....

CamdenTownie · 22/12/2017 13:04

Indian takeaway here!

Chicken korma, lamb tikka masala, vegetable biryani, mushroom rice, saag aloo, peshwari naan and loads of poppadums! I can't wait 😊
