A rubbish thread title but, well, it's 19 now!

20 days until Christmas, I'm imagining us all wrapping late at night like little festive elves readying ourselves for how excited everyone will be with their bargainous presents.

Any referral links to go on this separate thread please

Just spotted some saltrock codes come through - £5 off £40 spend or £10 off £60 - using 5XMAS or 10XMAS respectively. Also gives free delivery...

No idea if it stacks with the referral codes...

torthecatlady · 06/12/2017 00:30

Checking in, only a couple of bits left to get.

Minster2012 · 06/12/2017 00:43

Just in case people are starting to wrap, a couple of tips I discovered last year...

1 - Stocking presents
I know not everybody wraps them but lots of people do. Last year I bought some paper sweetie bags from ebay - think I got red and white stripe, red and white polka dot and green and white stripe , (keeping it traditional!) about 100 of each, in either 5x7 or 7x9 inch sizes. It cost about £2-4 per 100 depending on size and colour, but my stash of bags should last for at least 3 years!

But instead of having to cut paper and sticky tape and wrap each present individually for the stocking I could just pop it in the best size bag and scrunch it shut - occasionally it needed a tiny bit of tape to secure but not often. If there's anything bigger - think I had to do this once - I just used two bags and scrunched and then used tape to secure them together to make sure the wrapping didn't fall off. It wasn't picture perfect but it was all jolly and festive and perfectly fine - the dc certainly didn't notice any difference - and it was sooooo much quicker to do than ordinary wrapping! If anything it took them longer to get the parcels out than normal as they had to unscrunch rather than just rip the paper off...

This is a typical bag seller on ebay - they seem to have good deals on 100 or 200 stripey paper bags. However depending on what colours, design and sizes you want, it's worth spending a few minutes to get the best price for what you want. But really did make life easy!

2 - Ordinary present wrapping
I usually do the one paper for one child thing to make life easy and not having to label presents. However, this year, I've realised that I have loads of oddments of paper so I'm going to use them and label everything instead (Santa will of course have his own paper as usual too!).

To speed things up, I've cut some of the rolls in half or in one third/two thirds (we're talking supermarket paper rather than anything special!). means that I can power through loads of things from quite small to dvds to ds's boot buddy to games and lego - because I'm just cutting off from the smaller roll. It's much less unwieldy, and you only need to cut one side per present - as if you're cutting a very wide piece of ribbon.

OK so there are a couple of things that the paper might be a bit too big for but as it's all about speed and ease I can either trim and throw away or incorporate into the folds - and stick and it's done. No faffing around trying to get the best fit and most presents into the smallest amount of paper (I'm using up the oddments so happy to power through it )

Hope that makes sense - will try to post a photo tomorrow if it doesn't and anyone is interested!

Silvertap · 06/12/2017 06:18

Hello all.

I want to do a mini stocking for my ds and dd's teddies (as in their favourite book of all time, Alfie's Christmas). I have ds's dinosaur sorted with a mini dinosaur figure &
Notebook and will add some sweeties.

Need ideas of dds bunny though! Any suggestions!!

Silvertap · 06/12/2017 06:18

RosieBdy · 06/12/2017 06:50

Cupoteap Thank you. Xmas Smile

burntoutmum · 06/12/2017 06:59

Hi all!

Jumping on the thread please!! Struggling this year with DS2- He’s 9 on Saturday and I can’t think of enough to get him that covers both birthday and Christmas!!

He loves football ( birthday theme!) , humour, reading, you tube , the idea of being “cool”

I’m stuck! He’s giving me no ideas, his Christmas list is mainly covered in his birthday. DS1 is normally my difficult one but he asked for two main easy presents for birthday/Christmas this year so he’s sorted!!

Help please!

Haudyerwheesht · 06/12/2017 07:03

@silvertap what about one of those sweet cones that looks like a carrot?

Silver not a bargain on its own but lands end have 3 mini stockings for £18. If you needed anything else you could use a referral from the other thread and get £20 off a £40 spend. Works on sale items.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 06/12/2017 07:21

Checking in. Wish I had stuff to buy as I'm in a sick house today 🤢

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 06/12/2017 07:31

Thanks for that cycology link, probably get yet another t shirt for dh hes got 53 of the fuckers already

Im feeling stressed too I have done literally all yhe xmas shopping. Dh appears to have done nothing. Maybe mine. He'd better have done mine.
I have neen on at him for weeks to get MIL and FIL a present each, I've already spent hours making them gifts with the kids and making a calendar, all he needs to do is buy some socks and something for his mum. It'll probably happen on xmas eve at this stage.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/12/2017 07:44

Thanks.
Almost done here, few fresh odments to get.

I'm stuck on one present which I thought I was sorted but she already has it. About £5 31 year old woman. Not really into candles, drink, chocolate. Any ideas? I have a next mini perfume already just need something to go with.

margaritasbythesea · 06/12/2017 07:51

I have just noticed there is another Lottie Doll coming up on Amazon Lightning Deals at 11.15 this morning. It is the Brownie one.

There are also a pack of 12 small squishies at 1.10 pm.

I also noticed a VR tshirt which connects to an app to let you see inside your body. It gets really positive reviews. Adult and child sizes. If I was at all tecchy I would go for it!

Notso · 06/12/2017 07:51

Silvertap depending on how mini you need B&M and Wilko have small stocking to use as cutlery holders for a couple of quid.

I am also delurking to beg for present ideas, DH is bloody useless!
for my 13 year old mostly has asked for money towards a gaming pc but I need a few bits for him to open too mostly for the benefit of younger DC. I've only got him food and camping related stuff so far.
I need a way to present a festival ticket for DD 17 again so it seems to be from Father Christmas.
I also need a £50 secret Santa present for SIL needs to not take up much suitcase space and be super luxurious.

Jenni2legs · 06/12/2017 07:52

I just went through top cashback's hearst magazine offer to buy the Cosmo beauty box and it tracked the cash back. Making a £25 (worth £100 they say) beauty box £21ish
It's got brilliant stocking fillers or could be wrapped as a present in itself

Jenni2legs · 06/12/2017 07:53

Nice

@lifelongfrugaleer how about a scarf for your 31 year old friend? I bought my (also 31yo) friend one of these, and I have a few myself too. They are better quality than the £6 price tag so can recommend.
here

ladymelbourne1926 · 06/12/2017 08:16

I have seriously dropped the ball with my Christmas shopping aargh!
I still need Harry Potter stuff not from primark
Craft kits for adults?!
An electric blanket
Something for a music lover but not records or cds.......
If anyone can help with any of that I'd be forever grateful SmileThanks

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 06/12/2017 08:20

@Notso, can Santa buy her wellies? Is there a line up / promo poster yet? You could print it off and put it in a envelope in the wellies.

RJnomore1 · 06/12/2017 08:33

I wanted to say thank you to whoever posted the Gund offer a few days ago. My order arrived yesterday; I ordered the Xmas grumpy cat at £3 roughly and some pusheen stickers at £2, that got me the free teeny weeny boo plush and free postage, they've also sent me a lovely Peter rabbit postcard sized print (very good quality, thick card with and envelope and shrunk wrapped) and a Beatrix Potter fridge magnet free.

CarrotVan · 06/12/2017 08:51

@bunbunny I'm also doing the sweet bag wrapping for stockings. I've got 5 colours (one for each person we're with on Christmas Eve) and won't wrap everything but should be easier and quicker

macnab · 06/12/2017 09:21

Thankyou for the new thread Reastie, and can I suggest the next thread title should be "Nothing says Merry Christmas like a chocolate anus!" as that really gave me a giggle Grin
