I've just done nearly ALL the DC"s shopping online! Need ideas to bulk out piles...

I can't believe it.

I got a bass guitar and amp for DD1 aged 13
Then about 4 things from her fave online fashion shop...basically a top, a dress, a massive wall hanging thing and a necklace...almost bankrupted myself! WHY are teens so expensive!

Then for DD2 aged 9 I got a metal detector, a doll she wants, a couple of board games, a craft/fashion thing set, massive set of scented colouring stuff, and something else I can't remember!

I am worried about lack of quantity though...DD1 only has 6 things to open and DD2 7 things.

I am SURE I normall have about 12 things each...

What can I get to bulk them out please? I'd rather buy things like that in person so I think I'll go next week when I get stocking bits.

Thanks everyone...I would usually put the things mentioned in their stockings....has anyone got any ideas for making the actual piles look bigger...cheap but big things!

I'm going to say no. Speaking as someone whose teen's gifts are becoming increasingly expensive I strongly urge you to not bulk out the piles. Honestly, start cutting down the volume while you can, as those small gifts are going to get more and more expensive as each year passes. Small is beautiful.

Agree with above, by now they must be learning the price of stuff. Whilst I hate the mumsnet something you want, need, read crap I think 6/7 presents is a decent pile at that age especially when one of the presents is a guitar

I wouldn't bother. When I was 13 I would rather have a small pile of presents of things I love than get loads of cheap crap that I would keep for 6 months then bin.

Don't get in to "bulking out", really don't. It's just unnecessary tat that'll be used for 24hrs max.

Please cop on to yourself. It does not need bulked up.

How about a pillow pet for 9 year old, nice fluffy blankets or character cushions, selection boxes , pjs, board games?

I hear what you're all saying but reducing now...when they've always had 12 or so, is that fair on DD aged 9? Not really. Her sister didn't have her pile reduced and I don't buy them much at all during the year.

I posted here because I thought there'd be less judging to be honest!

Fluffy pyjamas or dressing gown (if they need them), a cushion or something for their bed, or a big fluffy blanket if they'd like that, novelty slippers (the type that are a big animal or something)... Is there nothing food wise? It's a running joke in our family that my brother loves crisps so there's usually a massive box of crisps wrapped up or a big jar of sweets?

Learnt o draw books are a favorite here plus art supplies

I need to do the same with my teens piles as they have a couple things each that are tiny but expensive. I'm going shopping next week to pick up a few bits, one of them wants a gum ball machine (b&m), the other needs a dressing gown. I have got them a waffle machine and all the ingridiants (sauces etc..).

A few bass things for the older one? Some thick bass plectrums (always handy to have even if she mostly doesn’t use plectrums), a song book, strings or a funky strap for the bass?

Things like fluffy throws, cushions etc for the younger one or both?

Something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.

They don't need their piles bulking out with tat. Make it useful if you really want to buy them more.

Whoever mentipned a massive box of crisps....genius! It would be my dream to wake up xmas day to a box of Monster munch!

Toiletry sets and throws sound perfect....why did I forget toiletry sets! Neither has posh taste in bath things (thank God!) so I can stock up a bit!

I get character towels, flannels and blankets, hot water bottles always go down well here to.

We bulk out with books, board games, arts and crafts, confectionery, maybe some fleecy blankets and some stuff for their rooms

We used to get a few new tops/dresses/stationary/book etc.

My two are getting new wellies. Not too expensive but nice and big to wrap up. Obviously alongside the presents from their lists!

Onesies are great as folded they make quite a big item. M & S have some lovely reindeers ones up to 16 years.
