Is your tree up?

BanyanTree · 16/11/2017 12:12

I usually put my tree up mid Dec but last year it was 01 Dec. However I am sick and tired of browsing in shops only to find that what I want to buy is already out of stock and there will be no more. It seems that people buy all their decorations in Sept and Oct.

I needed to do an inventory of what I have and needed to measure my tree for a skirt ready for a shopping trip tomorrow. I thought sod it, the boxes are out so lets get the tree up.

Anyone else got an early Christmas tree?

It is November, so no.

QuinionsRainbow · 17/11/2017 11:10

We're with Parker231 and no doubt lots of others. - haven't read the full thread. It's not even Advent yet. Ours goes up around Dec 15th, and generally gets taken down VERY soon after Jan 1st, if not earlier now that DCs aren't calling the shots.

upperlimit · 17/11/2017 11:16

No, but I am hauling all the lights out of the loft this weekend to make sure they all work.

We'll put it up earlier than usual this year, first week in December. We moved into a new house this year and I still don't feel like it's 'home' or homely, or whatever it is that makes you bond with a house, so I'm hoping decorating for Christmas might help.

Natsku · 17/11/2017 11:35

Nope, if I put a tree up now it'd be brown and the floor covered in pine needles by Christmas! I wait until the weekend before Christmas or thereabouts.

lottieandmia22 · 17/11/2017 14:20

I don’t understand why November is now considered Christmas?!!

heron98 · 17/11/2017 14:54

I jogged past a house this morning that had a wreath on the door and a "Merry Christmas" neon light. It felt a bit...depressing to see it all alone by itself so early.

But then DP and I are right grinches and don't even have a tree in December so what do I know?

heron98 · 17/11/2017 14:58

All these people that put the decorations up so early, aren't you fed up of it all by the time Christmas comes? I would have thought it would spoil it.

Arrowfanatic · 17/11/2017 17:45

No, it's November and we have a birthday on 30th so like to keep it down until after then.

Usually work it around whatever weekend my husband is off work so we can do it together. Sometimes it's the first weekend, sometimes the 2nd or 3rd weekend, but it makes no difference by Xmas eve the cats will have stripped the decorations off the bottom 2 feet of it. At least this year we have a new sofa which is low to the floor so no baubals could get lost under it. Grin

megletthesecond · 17/11/2017 17:52

No. It's not even December.

It'll probably go up on the 15th.

Mrsmadevans · 17/11/2017 18:01

Mine's up this morning and I am very pleased with it .I have cut back on a lot of decs this year but put it up earlier than normal in order to enjoy it for longer IYSWIM! There is method in my madness lol . Will post pic if I can do it

OdeToAutumn · 17/11/2017 18:08

I don't mind doing Christmas shopping and eating mince pies in November, but having the tree up would feel weird.

I think having it up for a couple of weeks makes it more special. I'd be bored of it by Christmas if I put it up now. My DH claims it should only go up on Christmas Eve but he never gets his way. He also thinks mince pies shouldn't be eaten before December...Shock

Oh I also have a 11 month old and I know there will be a daily battle over not pulling decorations off the tree.

GiveMeTheTeaAndNobodyGetsHurt · 17/11/2017 18:47

I agree that mince pies shouldn't be eaten before December, or at least only at Christmassy events, like fairs etc if held in November (I make up for holding off till then by eating every mince pie I see during December, mmm). Although I have to confess to having eaten two pre-packed christmas sandwiches already BlushGrin

headintheproverbial · 17/11/2017 18:56

NO!! I used to put mine up the weekend before Christmas. Now I have DC I have relented and it goes up 2 weekends before Christmas. But that is olenty early enough. As others have said it loses its 'specialness' if it goes up too soon.

endehors · 18/11/2017 10:43

Those who put the tree up at the end of November or beginning of December are usually those talking about taking it down on Boxing Day as it’s been up for nearly a month already! Grin They don’t seem to bother leaving it until Twelfth Night.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/11/2017 10:48

I take mine down before Twelfth Night as I like the house to be back to normal before going back to work on 2nd.

Once again, a Mumsnet thread where people display intolerance of others doing things differently to them!

I don't think the decorations lose their 'specialness' by being up from the beginning of December; I love having them up. But it's easier to take them down on the bank holiday so I can get fully sorted before going back to work with no more holiday in sight for ages!

Always put up 1st December....why not advent calanders start then...can't wait sooooo excited

Bisquick · 18/11/2017 12:23

Yes! Our tree is up!! We splurged on a Balsam Hill one this year! And we are decorating it this weekend!
Can you tell I am very very excited?

It’s usually up a bit later but my due date is Christmas Day, and baby is hopefully going to arrive a week and a bit earlier via ELCS so I want her first Christmas to be magical. And my family are all coming in to join us so I have presents for everyone all wrapped up while I can still waddle comfortably to the shops etc.

(But I agree it’s a bit early if you’re not mahooosive like me).

Kenworthington · 18/11/2017 12:26

Yeah it’s up. In the LOFT where it belongs because it’s bloody November!

Sarahh2014 · 18/11/2017 12:35

Yup mine is and completely unashamed Grin it's a black one tho which don't look as 'Christmassy' imo

Sarahh2014 · 18/11/2017 12:36

Strangely though I hate hearing Christmas songs before December!

hashtagelfie · 18/11/2017 17:28

Of course not, if we put it up now it would be dead by xmas day,
The foil ceiling garlands, the fairy lights around the banister and the outdoor icicle and candy cane lights are all upGrin

KatieKookaburra26 · 18/11/2017 17:31

Yep mine went up last weekend and our real one will go up a couple of weekends before Christmas.

stargirl1701 · 18/11/2017 17:42

No. We are thinking about the food for St Andrew's Day.

I am preparing for Advent - book calendar is wrapped, candles bought for the spiral, found Mary for the star path.

The tree will go up on Christmas Eve. It will come down on Twelfth Night.

The Nativity set will remain until Candlemas.

thegreylady · 18/11/2017 18:35

Mine goes up a week before Christmas and comes down on 6th January.

TheDodgyShoesOfDrFoster · 18/11/2017 18:44

No!

It lives outside in a pot year round. It would be really cruel to submit it to my overly heated house for weeks on end.

It will come in on the day before Christmas Eve and go back out on New Year's Day. That's more than long enough.
