My son had only asked for Lego for Christmas.

Do you think I should just get Lego or should I try and encourage other toys?

He lots of other toys at home that he hasn't bothered with for months on end ,
Like- imaginext, turtles , hot wheels etc

So get him Lego? Why waste money on things he won’t play with

ShowOfHands · 11/11/2017 09:57

My son only wants clothes. Experience has taught me that they know their own minds. Plus, other family members buy other things so it won't JUST be clothes. But he wants clothes so that's what he is getting (plus a satsuma in his stocking and chocolate coins and a new flannel of course).

Buy the Lego! At least it's a toy that will keep him occupied, encourage fine motor skills and creativity. And is timeless, so unlikely to be a fad he will grow out of quickly.

My experience when ds was small (he's 16 now) was that it was a waste of money to buy things he didn't want, as they would sit in the cupboard unused.

Paddington68 · 11/11/2017 10:05

Buy him lego and you thick socks and slippers. OUCH!

MimsyBorogroves · 11/11/2017 10:05

So does mine.

I’m getting him all the Lego.

endofthelinefinally · 11/11/2017 10:06

Just get him the lego.

cakedup · 11/11/2017 10:10

Just get him lego, he'll love it. You could also get him lego themed stuff if you think he'd like it. If you look online (ebay I think) you can get a personalised lego figure with his name on it

Sirzy · 11/11/2017 10:12

All the Lego here. And for his birthday on Monday too.

Given up wasting money on bits he won’t want and not wasting money on shit means I can buy him better Lego sets!

Yika · 11/11/2017 10:12

Just get him the lego. My nephew was like this, I have some photos of him on Christmas Day surrounded by lego sets and beaming his little head off.

megletthesecond · 11/11/2017 10:15

Just get Lego. How old is he?

twinklz · 11/11/2017 10:46

Thanks everyone! He's 5 by the way Smile

If he's 5, that's great - he'll have several happy years of Lego making ahead of him (if he's anything like mine was!) Smile

Firenight · 11/11/2017 10:58

Definitely all the Lego - that’s sorting out my 3 and 8 year old this Christmas too.

twinklz · 11/11/2017 11:27

I was thinking maybe as he liked construction then we could try mecanno - knex- magformers?

What about some technic Lego which you can build with him .

Therealslimshady1 · 11/11/2017 12:51

My two boys had just lego for years Grin interspersed with nerf guns for birthdays.

They are now teens, and I miss the simplicity of Christmas presents past...

CannotEvenThink · 11/11/2017 12:54

All the Lego. All of it.

If you wanted something different then Edison robot is an awesome little robot that you can do basic coding with and it is compatible with Lego so he can build it into a mega robot!

ihavetogoshoppingnow · 11/11/2017 13:15

DS 4.5 and gave me a massive list of all the Lego he wants. Between us and family he’s got what he wanted and I’ve bought a few other bits like board games, a Spirograph, new pens and crayons but the main bulk of presents will be Lego so Christmas Day will involve us all being bossed around to make things and trying to stop DD eating it

badgermum · 11/11/2017 13:26

Lego all the way,

PinkSquash · 11/11/2017 13:29

DS2 is 5 and has solely asked for Lego (batman and Lego city only) so he will be getting that. It's a toy that everyone can get involved in, including my usually too cool For toys DS1.

Anatidae · 11/11/2017 13:30

It’s all I wanted as a kid. I say get the lego!

BenLui · 11/11/2017 13:36

Get the Lego

shakeatailfeather · 11/11/2017 13:37

Yep same for 6 yr old ds here. We already have tons, but it is all he wants. 90% of the time it is what he plays with so we'll go with it, especially as I'm having dc2 between Christmas and new year so something that is going to keep him occupied is no bad thing. We do stockings from santa so there will be a few books, small vehicles sweets etc too

Didiplanthis · 11/11/2017 20:09

Same for my 5 yr old ds. List is just endless Lego sets and a few cuddly type toys. His twin brother is rubbish at Lego and am really struggling to find equitable toys that are good and worried that Lego boy might be peeved on the day he doesn't have playable toys. Also his lego list is growing daily and bank breaking !

Petalbird · 11/11/2017 20:16

Doing better than us our 9 year old dss only wants wooden train track pieces Hmm (they are not allowed at his home though)
