Since there doesn't seem to be a poncetastic thread, and to avoid confusion with thread titles, would I be out of order to start this one?

First order of business, a toast to our dearly missed Fellatio Nelson, wherever she may be and a quote from her original thread:

^
"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom. A bit like the war in Afghanistan, only with nicer food and sparkly shoes.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobsworth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapes and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessies' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

I have decided (largely thanks to this thread) to create a handmade advent calendar for my Mum, to say thanks for all the years she bought ones for myself and my Brother.
I found this picture on Pinterest and I plan to fill the little pouches with Yankee Tarts, one for each day. She loves candles.
I'll post my progress.

@Insomnibrat DD and I made some last year, but with tea bags. She was a only just 3, so they weren't perfectly poncetastic, but the recipients enjoyed them. I bought florist envelopes on eBay (they were small so just what I needed) and used mini pegs on Christmas ribbon. DD decorated them with Christmas stickers. I found a picture but for some reason can't get it to upload.

Noword your mincemeat looks lovely. I didn't ponce last year so I feel the distinct need to ponce this year. I am a little behind though so I may have some serious half term baking and preserving to do

Wayfarersonbaby · 07/10/2017 10:12

Trumpton those Christmas knitted socks are gorgeous!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/10/2017 10:16

10 posts in and think I've found my spiritual home. Place marking!

Anyone who's not a knitter or crochet-er, you could buy little kittens from the poundshop for babies to make your cards/advent calendars? I saw a gorgeous garland with them on. Plus there's these little 'no knit' bobble hats, I made several last year. Easy and cute.

Mittens.

Not kittens. That's a whole different advent calendar.

For anyone wanting the ferrerro roche (sic) covers there's a free pattern guide:

I made them into Christmas decs last year.

LavenderHills · 07/10/2017 17:27

Oh, where has this thread been all my life?!

I've just started cross-stitching these mini Christmas stockings. They act like little envelopes, so you can use them to hold gift cards, a nice note, or even cash, and then they can hang on the recipient's Christmas tree afterwards.

@Wolfcub, it looks even nicer now it’s had the requisite 3 hours in the oven! I’m just waiting for it to fully cool before I put it into jars!

MrsHathaway · 07/10/2017 17:45

Ooh I bloody love mincemeat. Do share a photo of it cooling!

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2017 18:18

Cooled and jarred! Xmas Grin

Only just spotted this thread and realised I've been secretly poncing! Only a little bit as a novice poncer but definitely trying for first ever Christmas hosting & in shiny new dream house too so have loads of amazing Xmas plans in my head --that will no doubt stay in my headGrin--

MrsHathaway · 07/10/2017 19:00

Beautiful!

Yesterday I took delivery of around two dozen Kilner jars from a local friend who is clearing out her basement. Need a scrub/sterilize obviously but I am earmarking them for tablet/fudge/peppermint creams.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2017 19:08

Oh, I love the sound of those, MrsH!

Are you Scottish (hence tablet)? I’ve never known it made anywhere else!

MrsHathaway · 07/10/2017 19:11

Not completely, but enough to represent Scotland at sport Grin Family originally Edinburgh, latterly Easter Ross.

mathanxiety · 07/10/2017 19:31

I realised a couple of years ago that my (Irish) mum's 'fudge' recipe was actually tablet.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2017 19:33

That’s a great way to describe it! Grin

Wolfcub · 07/10/2017 21:08

Noword that looks lovely, what recipe are you using, mine is stove top so I'm interested in the difference

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2017 21:16

It's this Delia one. It smells amazing!

dementedma · 07/10/2017 21:23

Bottled up my Christmas pudding vodka today. It is gorgeous!

MrsHathaway · 07/10/2017 21:26

I use Delia recipe too. She is idiotproof for Christmas just as well tbf.

I have been reminded that home-made Florentines are v popular. They'd look super in a Kilner too...

Austentatious · 07/10/2017 21:26

Poncers, those of you who use branches of holly, fir, foraged ivy and pinecones for decoration - how do you clean them off enough so you don't end up with tiny bugs and flecks of mud all down your stairs / across the top of the piano / whatever it is you are garlanding?

AIMGA · 07/10/2017 21:42

Thanks for the pattern Stubble , I'm going to get the gear and print the pattern for elderly DMIL, she isn't too well & needs a distraction Xmas Smile

I've had the DC pompoming like crazy and almost finished our wreath. Will take a photo tomorrow.

AND had a delivery today from the book people today of Half Yard Christmas & Sew Advent Calendars. They are fab & not too expensive!

www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?productId=789020&catalogId=10051&searchTerm=calendar+advent

AIMGA · 07/10/2017 21:44

Yes! - mrshathaway Florentines would be perfect. Can you make in advance/freeze?

How do you decorate the kilners?
