Christmas stocking or presents around the tree

I have always pit presents around the bottom of the tree but a lot of friends give their dc stockings and just thinking maybe this year get d's a stocking.

What do others do and why. Worried my tree will look bear without the presents

Presents from family and friends go under the tree in December, Santa adds more on Christmas Eve, and fills a stocking with little bits.

We do both. Stockings for little presents and under the tree for big ones. Father Christmas brings the stockings. We provide the rest.

we do both, they wake up to a stocking on their bed filled with chocs , fluffy socks, fruit , bubble bath and small toys, they then come into our bed to open them. we all then go downstairs to open all the other presents

Both here too. Stockings - opened first thing in the morning, keeps them happy until presents from under the tree are opened after lunch.

Stockings on the beds with bits like chocolate orange , toothbrush , bath bombs , pots of slime , gel pens , lip balms, hair accessories , hot wheel cars , glow sticks and other little knick knacks to keep them entertained a little longer before waking us up at a stupid time .
Then under the tree they get one 'main' present each like bike / go kart / tablet ect plus about 7 or 8 other toys or games from us and some clothes / shoes and any gifts from family and friends are also under the tree . They do get new pjs on Xmas eve as well .

Both. A few small bits in the stocking. Main present or a 'few' big presents round the tree. And I mean that, I hate tonnes and tonnes of presents. I prefer one big one -bike, x box for eg.

Both. Presents from me on the couch, stocking at the end of their bed. Stocking is usually some small gifts - bobbles, chocolate, book, socks etc. Presents from family/friends go under the tree!

You seem very invested in Christmas Eve boxes, considering you don't agree with them.

OP - We do both. Father Christmas brings the stockings, family buy the presents. The fat dude isn't taking credit for the big things we get for DD

Guess it's just us being weird. Will do stocking this year and put smaller bits and bobs in the stocking. Never had both as kid only had presents out under try and always done the same but like the look of stockings

Stockings are gifts from Father Christmas everyone else's presents sit under the tree until after Christmas lunch.

Haha Santa def doesn't get all the credit he brings 3 or 4 presents that are in different wrapping paper but left where d's leaves his cookies and milk and carrot for Rudolph.

Def not doing Xmas eve boxes Christmas costs enough without them on top

Don't worry OP, I not come from a stocking house

DH does, so we started off doing stockings for each other when we first met, and now our kids get stockings.

I actually put their advent calendar in the stocking each night during December - we've got a playmobil one that gets reused every year and it alternates between DD and DS who gets the toy each day. On the day they don't get the toy they get a choc coin instead. The elves only leave a present if they've been good - which has the benefit of calming their behaviour somewhat in the lead up to Christmas.

The Christmas Day stocking contains something they want, something they need, something to eat (usually including a cereal bar to give me & DH a bit longer in bed) and something to read. All small enough to fit in the stocking - we don't go mad!

Rest of presents under the tree - ones from us and family and friends unless we're seeing them round Xmas then they usually open them then.

Here, Father Christmas leaves stockings at the end of our beds and under the tree are gifts from friends and family.

Mine get stockings on their door handles and a sack downstairs from FC.
Tree presents are from friends and family and get opened on Boxing Day or sometimes later.
In our house Mums and Dads don't get kids presents until FC stops coming.

Our children are grown up now but they had stockings from Father Christmas on the ends of the beds (or left outside their bedroom doors as they got older and weren't asleep when we were ready to go to bed).

Father Christmas only ever brought little things in our house and we didn't encourage Christmas lists. They occasionally wrote to FC and that was useful if they mentioned what they wanted but all main presents came from us.

We never talked about whether FC was real so I have no idea when they didn't believe any more but we didn't stop stockings until they were in their 20s.

I think when they were growing up their favourite presents were often the bits and bobs they got in their stockings anyway!

I think it's really interesting and lovely how everyone has their own traditions around Father Christmas/Santa.

I like that children don't seem to question the fact that their friends often do things differently - or not at all. Well, my children didn't question it, which I suspect is because they stopped believing when they were very little but didn't want to voice that as it's a fun tradition/myth to enjoy.

Both here. I must admit I did mess stocking presents up..by putting it down stairs but realised my mistake and put it in bedroom now. Otherwise it gets lost in the maddneses.

Before Xmas about a week before I put.. Presents from us under the tree, a few gifts..
In case HE doesn't make it..

Then on Xmas morning along side our gifts is more in different wrapping from.

Him. Big gifts.
No one else buys for dc that would give to us in advance so we buy all but my goodness more than happy to let father Christmas take the credit... Because mummy and daddy couldn't afford what he gets.

After Xmas any relatives give gifts straight over from them. But sadly no one really spoils our dc like some families do. Sil 35, no dc and probably a millionaire now is very comfortable seeing dc on Xmas day and not even giving a card, present nothing.

For me father Christmas is all or nothing.

We have a life time for direct thanks although dd 10 gave a knowing smirk when she said she wanted a sewing machine for her bday and I said you will need to ask father Christmas

Ellie as in being brought up in general children don't question things, what's happened to us was normal
