I love my "Nigella Christmas" book and get it out every year. I don't do many recipes from it but it's a beautiful book with gorgeous photos. It makes me feel all Christmassy and inspired and I love looking through cookery books.

Do you have a favourite christmas cookery book?

Another vote for the Mary Berry one - I used it the first time I hosted a family xmas and everything worked!

MattAffleck · 12/09/2017 20:15

Right. I've had it. I'm ordering the Irish Country Association one. I can't have there be a Christmas book that I want. I'll deny myself lots (nothing) but not a Christmas book.

Justtrying · 12/09/2017 20:20

Delia all the way, especially her Cranberry sauce so simple and lovely even with Porridge or over night oats. Her Christmas cake is excellent too, but often needs longer in my fan oven.

Jamie's Beef Wellington is fabulous.

Then it's Good Food Magazine and Delicious for annual twists.

JoylessFucker · 15/09/2017 18:46

I have Nigella too ... and only for the gorgeous pics. I think I've only made the butternut squash soup. However, I am a Christmas nut, so have now added the Irish Country Association and the Nigel Slater to my wish list. How long can I wait before ordering I wonder ...? Easter Smile

Has anybody seen there is a good housekeeping Christmas cookery book available for pre order on Amazon... just sayin' Grin

RuggerHug · 15/09/2017 20:03

daisy I saw it yesterday and oh how I twitched and nearly caved...I just need to see one amazing review and I know I'll give in though Grin

SpiritedLondon · 15/09/2017 21:19

Ooh I've just scored a second hand copy of Nigella for £4 on Amazon with free delivery too! Very happy

PerfumeIsAMessage · 15/09/2017 21:29

I'm ordering Jamie, Nigel and the Irish women tomorrow.

And I don't even care!

I got Nigella down today and flicked through....which means I'm about to start ordering random food items like edible glitter and lovely wrapping tape etc.

Am a lost cause. Grin

Delia is good - I make the Creole cake (with extra fruit and even more booze) every year, though it wouldn't do if you wanted a cake you could ice. Jamie has the best gravy recipe. I don't have any of the others and will have to check them out!

NoWordForFluffy · 15/09/2017 21:45

I've just ordered Nigella and Jamie second hand for £9 in total! Good tip, Spirited!

MrsNuckyThompson · 15/09/2017 22:22

I always do the Jamie gravy in advance (made from chicken wings and veg) and it has revolutionised my Christmas (and all other poultry roasts). SUCH a stress saver and so delicious.

daisydalrymple · 15/09/2017 22:25

rugger for me it was the £22 price tag that put me off as I'm sure it will go down half price at some point... it's just whether I can wait that long before buying it!

secondhoneymoon · 15/09/2017 22:59

I have too many Christmas cookbooks and am trying to stop myself getting Jamie's.... apart from the gravy in advance, which sounds fab, what recipes are in there that you don't find in other books e.g Delia, Nigella etc

NotAPuffin · 17/09/2017 09:54

NefretForth, I've made and iced the creole cake a couple of times and it was fine!

JoylessFucker · 18/09/2017 10:47

daisydalrymple noooooooo .....
That Good Housekeeping one has been added to the wish list. I may even seek it out in the shops when it comes out, just for a friendly fondle you understand ... Halo

daisydalrymple · 19/09/2017 15:02

joyless Grin in theory it should replace the annual purchase of the Christmas GH food special...

JoylessFucker · 19/09/2017 16:04

Oh you know how to reduce a woman's guilt dairydalrymple
Wine Glitterball

NotAPuffin · 19/09/2017 16:39

Oh no, I've just ordered the Good Housekeeping one. This is getting ridiculous (and lovely!).

PerfumeIsAMessage · 19/09/2017 17:12

Can you freeze the gravy?

I feel like running out and buying chicken wings!

SpiritedLondon · 19/09/2017 20:20

Yes the gravy freezes fine.

Doilooklikeatourist · 19/09/2017 20:25

Nigella Christmas is my favourite, I love the Black Cake ( I think it's called ) with the soaked Prunes
I also have the Sarah Raven book , which I love

KrytensNanobots · 26/09/2017 21:12
