I love my "Nigella Christmas" book and get it out every year. I don't do many recipes from it but it's a beautiful book with gorgeous photos. It makes me feel all Christmassy and inspired and I love looking through cookery books.

Do you have a favourite christmas cookery book?

Thank you @brittbugs80

TheWoollybacksWife · 09/09/2017 21:05

@RuggerHug I bought it today and can't wait for it to be delivered.

I am neither Irish or a countrywoman - just a Christmas nut Xmas Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/09/2017 07:51

I think I have all of these books and more! Can strongly recommend Josceline Dimbleby's Christmas book. I always make Delia's mincemeat, and just love Nigella's Christmas. I also have Hairy Bikers (bought yesterday!) and a load of American Christmas cook books.

IssyStark · 10/09/2017 10:01

Delia is standard in our house, But I also have a BBC Christmas book from about 15yo which has recipes from all the usual suspects (some great stews and party food recipes), plus several years of Good Housekeeping magazines.

just5morepeas · 10/09/2017 10:08

Oh, I'm really tempted by the Irish Countrywoman's Association Book of Christmas now, and Jamie Oliver's, even though I don't like him!

MrsSchadenfreude so glad to see someone else has Josceline Dimbleby!

While a few recipes do look a bit 70s now (quite a few weird salads), that woman really knows how to cook.

MuchBenham · 10/09/2017 16:23

Isadora I always do Mary Berry's cake from her Christmas Collection (I think it might be on the BBC website as well). It's dead easy and it always works (even the year my DH turned the oven off halfway through baking). Ooh I love making my Christmas cake!! Already looking forward to it...

MuchBenham · 10/09/2017 16:26

Gizzi Erskine's Season's Eatings is quite good for less traditional recipes. And no photos, which is half the enjoyment. I love the look of the Irish Country woman's Assoc book! (Adds to Amazon basket...)

pamplemoussed · 10/09/2017 16:26

Nigella and Mary Berry see me through Christmas!

EllieMentry · 10/09/2017 16:33

I follow Delia slavishly as I'm not a particularly good cook but when I follow her instructions, things turn out fine!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 10/09/2017 16:44

The Nigella book comes off the shelf around now in my house. As others have said, less for the recipes (some are positively minging- the Christmas cake with dates and chocolate is foul) but for the writing and the imagery.
Delia's Christmas also (always always her classic Christmas cake recipe, ever since DateGate from the Nigella book) I do resent Delia explaining to me as if I were 3 how to slice a tomato at times but I put up with it!
Might have a gander at Nigel. I suppose in book form at least you don't get his fucking irritating enunciation and stopping half way through a sentence like he's forgotten his lines. All the while dripping grease off his hair onto the organic goat's cheese millefeuilles.
I have a Jamie Christmas DVD that I always dig out as well.

CiderwithBuda · 10/09/2017 16:46

I love the Nigella one just to look at too. Love all the photos.

I have the Delia one too and like that. And the Hairy Bikers one. And Mary Berry. And another Festve compilation one that DS bought me. And a pile of old Xmas magazines. And a folder of Xmas recipes. And a Pinterest board.

And on the back of this thread I might have to have a look at the Jamie one and the Irish Countrywoman's Assoc one which I have never heard of - and I'm Irish!

DH will roll his eyes. I have a general cookery book fetish anyway.

We have a houseful this year and I'd like to try some different stuff to our normal.

Isadora - I usually do Delia's Christmas cake. I use much mor booze than she recommends though!

Imgettingdesparatehere · 10/09/2017 16:53

Nigella's book is great ( & the Feast book also has good ideas) as is Delia. I always keep magazines from that time of year particularly Delicious magazine & good housekeeping. It's good to try something different . If Nigel Slater has a festive book out I will definitely but that or drop heavy hints at my birthday in October.

Rumplestaleskin · 10/09/2017 17:00

I was going to try the Chocolate-date Nigella concoction but I don't think I'll bother now tbh.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 10/09/2017 17:16

Blush sorry! You might like it but watching my entire family politely trying to find something nice to say was mortifying!

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/09/2017 18:12

I have:

Nigella Christmas
Hairy Bikers 12 Days of Christmas
Williams Sonoma Christmas
Merry Kitschmas
American Christmas
2016 Christmas with Southern Living
Delia Smith Christmas
Delia's Happy Christmas
Josceline Dimbleby's Christmas

Blush

I may have more - most of my cookery books are in storage while we renovate the hovel.

Rumplestaleskin · 10/09/2017 18:31

Haha, I was in two minds due to being on a budget this year, Perfume, so you may have saved me from a costly mistake.

gladisgood · 10/09/2017 20:16

I love all Christmassy cookbooks!

I have a Gordon Ramsey one in my collection which I often use as it also has a big incredibly usefulsection on what to cook with the leftovers.

The turkey curry is delicious and I make a huge batch and portion freeze.

He also has the best recipe for maple syrup pancakes. ( DD's favourite Christmas breakfast) Grin

CiderwithBuda · 11/09/2017 04:08

I ordered the Jamie one and the Irish Countrywomen one. DH not impressed!

I'm blaming you lot!

pinotgrigio1 · 11/09/2017 04:53

Awake with a poorly baby (who is now back asleep) and came across this thread. I have just ordered the Nigella Christmas and Delia's Merry Christmas. Almost ordered the Delia original Christmas one too but decided 2 was enough for 1 order Blush

Tobebythesea · 11/09/2017 19:55

Just pre-ordered the Nigel Slater. Thank you for the heads up!

I love Nigella's book and Jamie's. Delia for Christmas cake making this weekend.

Namethecat · 11/09/2017 19:58

Delia Smith's Christmas/ wedding cake recipe is easy to follow and comes out lovely.

Jessica78 · 11/09/2017 20:04

I always do Jamie's turkey and leek pie with some of the leftovers, with the crumbled chestnuts between layers of pastry, it's bloody lovely!

Unicorn81 · 11/09/2017 20:13

Anyone remember Fanny Cradock on TV? So funny to watch now

NotAPuffin · 12/09/2017 16:29

I've just ordered the ICA one, and given the foul weather this evening I think I'll light the fire and curl up with Jamie tonight.
