There's so many of these fancy advent calendars around , I keep seeing new ones pop up every day!

Can we have a round up of the best ones / most usual ones etc please - and any experiences you may have on them?!

Tonight I've seen a reeses peanut butter cup one that sounds like heaven to me!

Hi tootsieglitterballs, can you please tell me where the Reese's one is from? Thanks.

My daughter loved this Happyland Advent Calendar last year :)

This year, my local Usborne rep is doing an 'Advent Calendar' containing a new Isborne book for each day :) x

I had the Aldi one last year. Total boringness
Dd had the boots no 17 which was excellent

This year she has a Jack Wills from last Jan sales 😂

Annwithnoe · 30/08/2017 06:28

Did anyone have the Aldi charm bracelet one last year? I think my dd might enjoy something like that if they do it again?

Stillwaitingforsummer · 30/08/2017 07:17

Ds had the radio one last year but lost interest as well.

tootsieglitterballs · 31/08/2017 13:22

@73kittycat73 you can order them from studio, but I think they will be in some of the more normal shops this year too

My 2.5 year old is a Disney cars fanatic. Has loads of the buggers

I would love to get him a cars calendar that gives out a new car every day but does it exist? Doesn't look like it

73kittycat73 · 31/08/2017 14:13

tootsieglitterballs - Thank you. Xmas Smile

wowl · 31/08/2017 14:22

Soubriquet mine would love one of those too! I'm pretty sure thy won't do them, but there's always HotWheels ones that do I think? Mine would probably be most happy with one with Lightning McQueen on it that has chocolate inside to be honest...

tootsieglitterballs · 31/08/2017 17:33

I did wonder about doing my own version of a mixture of all the things my son loves ...

  • Thomas minis
  • happy land figures
  • lego
  • chocolate
Perhaps if I could get a fabric one, and then buy (say) 6 of each and alternate - best of all of them then, and something that grandma or hubby can easily do if I happen to be in hospital.

I don't have a photo, but last December, I bought DH little sample bottles of lovely whiskey from Selfridges (or get them online from master of malt ). Only two bottles per weekend (Friday and Saturday), as the Ginvwnt calendar was a bit much for him the previous year. It was a huge hit, and it's great because you can go as cheap or as expensive as you want and it still costs less than a markup on a ginvent.

Considering the Thomas mini one. Normally do lego ones. I like candle ones but rarely get them.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/09/2017 18:59

I've just ordered the Smiggle one, DD (7) will go nuts over it!

Gizlotsmum · 01/09/2017 19:05

Have considered that but had bad reviews last year

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/09/2017 21:09

Did you see the contents of last years? I thought it was great! Genuinely not sure what more people wanted.

Star2015 · 01/09/2017 21:15

Dandelion can I ask when you bought the Tanya Burr one on offer?

They are currently £30 in Superdrug and not sure I want to pay that much...

Thanks!

thereallochnessmonster · 01/09/2017 21:17

The smiggle one was good last year. I loved the boots sanctuary one. Lego ones are also good. Dd wants the body shop one this year. The beer hawk one is great too. Not on the high street are doing a tea advent calendar on half price - looks good.

CotswoldStrife · 01/09/2017 21:17

What did I want from the Smiggle calendar? Smiggle stuff - stationery! Not cracker tat and toys! They have said that you can go in to a store and look at the items in the calendar this year before buying. Last year's was awful and nowhere near worth the money. Before that I'd bought Lego Friends calendars for DD which were great.

DH bought himself an advent calendar of beer last year (Costco), small-ish (not tiny) bottle per day. I had a Yankee Candle tealight one.

Not sure what we will do this year. I have seen a Prosecco one on FB but I think it was American. Could do it myself cheaper with £3 mini bottles from the supermarket!

Has anyone tried the Gin ones? The Liberty one looks so lovely but I can't justify the cost at all!

DandelionAndBedrock · 01/09/2017 21:45

Gosh, definitely not this early on. I think it was after the October half term, but before November? I remember telling my friend and they were back on full price fairly soon afterward.

I can't remember what I paid, but in my head it was £15-20. Definitely not £30 (maybe up to £25?). Not very helpful, sorry!

Cococrumble · 01/09/2017 23:52

My DH sent me a link to a Gail platt advent calendar on Amazon today weirdly enough. It's the most ridiculously hilarious thing we've seen in a while!

If it wasn't £12 I'd have ordered it for him for a laugh come December.

Star2015 · 02/09/2017 07:30

Dandelion that's great thanks.. I'll resist then and maybe check once a week on the price up to the end of Oct!

Anyone know if there's a way of setting up a notification on something that price drops?

d270r0 · 02/09/2017 18:12

Last year I got the L'occitane one. To be honest I was a bit disappointed as lots of days were very samey and everything was so tiny. This year I plan to get the m&s one. I also like the look of the sanctuary one or the mrs brimbles stationary one.
Dh got a beer one which he enjoyed.
Have got a minions mega blocks one for the dc this year, but also do an activity one for them, some days full on activities or craft type things, or on busy days sometimes something like a christmassy book or pair of christmas socks.

tootsieglitterballs · 02/09/2017 19:18

Anyone got any recommendations of 'fill your own' advent calendars? A fabric one would be lovely, but open to ideas.
