Anyone started to buy Christmas presents yet?

I'm very excited for Christmas this year and have started to pick up presents for my dd (2.8)

Nothing that will date and nothing character branded as she changes her mind like the wind.

Mainly board games, play doh, wooden toys and jigsaw puzzles at the minute.

My dh thinks I'm mad for starting this early (normally July) has any one else started?

I've been buying half price Lego sets too, too good an opportunity to miss! I like to start early.

Nicpem1982 · 17/05/2017 07:52

Dd loves Lego too :)

Shutupanddance1 · 17/05/2017 12:48

Where are the half price Lego sets?

SideOrderofSprouts · 17/05/2017 13:15

Have you used camelcamelcamel to
Track?

lostlalaloopsy · 17/05/2017 16:28

Yes! I started on Monday in New Look of all places!! I got some lovely wee bits for her room - star light, fairy lights - all were about £3.

Nicpem1982 · 17/05/2017 16:57

Side- I've had them out of smyths before now and more recently Tesco

Half price Lego was in our local Sainsburys. It was mainly dc superhero girls sets and a couple of lego friends.

Will be starting next week after ds bday.
Have no clue this year so will be after ideas for a tv addicted 12 yo
A very cheeky &;girlie 9 & a nerf obsessed 8 yr old.

Scotlass · 17/05/2017 20:34

I did actually buy my first Christmas 2017 present last week. On an extremely rare trip to the shops by myself I saw a book I nearly bought DD last year for £25 in Waterstones for £10 in the works. It has a bit of a mark on the back so I got it for £8 and am feeling very pleased with myself. Smile
I may pick up underwear, toiletries etc as I see them to try and spread the cost a bit

If anyone buys BodyShop stuff, it's worth finding their nearest outlet store. They have an ongoing offer, only in their outlet, where you get discounts of you buy more than one item. 30% discount on any two items, 35% on any three and 40% on any four items. They also do huge sizes of shower gel (1 litre) and body butters (500g). Yesterday I bought 2 one litre bottles of shower gel, one 500g body butter and a small gift set (shower gel, body lotion and a bath puff), total outlet cost of individual items £48.00 , discounted cost, £28.80. Buying the same quantities in the high street stores would have cost almost £80.00. Especially handy for small stocking fillers as well as industrial quantities for teenagers!

Nicpem1982 · 19/05/2017 20:30

That's brill thank you 😊

Slight apology - not 1litre, but 750ml. Still huge bottles and still amazing value.

QuimJongUn · 22/05/2017 17:32

I've done most of mine - just DD's main one to get (it's a games console not released until July) and DH's annual craft beer hamper to put together (obviously I need to buy that nearer to Christmas so it's fresher, so I'll start collecting bottles and cans from about October). And stuff like chocolate, which will be bought in October/November.

It's far easier to buy well in advance now DD is an adult - she's nowhere near as fickle as she was as a child or, worse still, a teenager! Grin

I've also bought all my lights, decorations, tableware, crackers, wrap, cards, etc and have a Christmas Shelf started in the kitchen - mainly alcohol as yet, and a few puddings left over from last year which don't go out of date until next March. It'll fill up steadily over the next few months!

KC225 · 25/05/2017 12:19

Quimjohnun. Inspired name by the way.

Where did you get all the decorations and lights and crackers? Have you bought them recently?

SideOrderofSprouts · 27/05/2017 07:57

Crackers you can buy
Morrisons ones on Amazon pantry for £1

Nicpem1982 · 27/05/2017 08:19

I've bought some lovely stocking filler games from the elc for half price this week and some Pom Pom wow craft sets from Tesco for less than half price :)

They've all gone in the storage boxes

Biscuit ......

No.

Summerisdone · 27/05/2017 08:26

Wow you are ridiculously organised OP, and quite frankly I'm jealous of you for it.
Every year I tell myself I'm going to start around September, and every year I end up scrabbling round to get it all done in December Grin

QuimJongUn · 27/05/2017 08:57

KC thanks - I snigger whenever I type it Grin

I bought all my extra bits in January/February when they were drastically reduced. I found some beautiful wrap in M&S reduced from £6 a roll to 10p - I bought 15! Lights were down from £25 to £2.50 in Tesco, and luxury crackers were £30 down to £3. Cards were about 50p a pack in M&S. People think I'm mad when I'm buying Christmas stuff in January, but why wait til Nov/Dec and spend ten times as much?!

I also pick stuff up through the year - I've just bought a beautiful deep green tablecloth in a sale which will look lovely with all the greenery and candles I have on the table at Christmas. Poundstretcher seem to have cheap lights all year round and they're actually the best ones I've ever bought - I have several sets of clear bulb ones (not LED) which I've used for years and not even one bulb has gone. And I use them every day, too - our house is very much a fairy lights all year kind of house!

KC225 · 27/05/2017 17:39

Wow. Quimjongun you are a bargain ninja. That is a spectacular haul.

Will check out Amazon panty for crackers thanks sideorder

tabbycatbythesea · 27/05/2017 17:42

Yes, we have. 4 children and our work is majorly seasonal so we like to get what we can now

QuimJongUn · 27/05/2017 18:08

KC you have to time it just right - too early in January and the reductions aren't bug enough. Leave it until the end of Jan/beginning of Feb and you're likely to score a blinder Xmas Smile

SideOrderofSprouts · 27/05/2017 19:48

@mermaidinthesea

This is the Christmas board. If you are not interested in Christmas why are you here?

Have a rare Biscuit from me

Nearlyadoctor · 30/05/2017 17:41

Started today for Dd (10) - well arrived today ordered on Friday. Unicorn Onesie and Unicorn pj's both from M&S ordered with their 20% off weekend deal. They are both lovely and I know she will be thrilled.

Ordered a fair bit of Playmobil for my nephews all half price last November for birthday's ( twins) next month and this Christmas.

Have started writing out ideas for other relatives.

MrsDilligaf · 04/06/2017 21:19

Got a few bits and bobs. DH and I save all year for Christmas but I like to buy things throughout the year as it helps hugely with the budget.

I'll start properly in June with the intention of getting the majority of things before November.
